JY Read me!

Hi JY,

I've been getting through the curriculum at my own pace this last year, but I'd just like to say thank you so much for creating this curriculum. I plan to write 7sage a great review once I'm done with the curriculum and LSAT in December, but I'm so thankful this program exists. I first struggled with LSAT in 2012 with Stratus Prep's summer intensive. I remember thinking there's no way I'll ever understand this material because my instructor at the time seemed to almost enjoy talking over our heads. Then, I had a tutor who taught me much of the basics, but never could go beyond and get to the depth of what I needed to understand logic. Once again, I felt hopeless - that was in 2013. The last year, I've slowly but surely been working on the LSAT at my own pace and I'm finally realizing the flaws in my learning one day at a time. Yesterday, I had such an ah-ha moment when I realized the conditional logic rules cannot be applied to existential quantifiers. It was a huge moment for me. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for creating a curriculum that really goes into the greatest detail of explanations. After doing Teach for America for two years, I fully understand how hard it can be to create a curriculum and also differentiate based on everyone's learning needs. You are an awesome teacher and I am incredibly impressed.

Best,

Liz

@ so i actually just now took the time to read your thoughts about reviewing the 70s tests often and going into the 40s later on (sorry i looked straight at the schedule and asked my question before bothering to read your first Note:)... so scratch what i asked unless you have any advice you'd like to add regarding my scheduling of my other PTs. thanks again for setting this up. Really looking forward to it.

@ I just started PTing this week and was planning on just going in order from PT 36-75... but now im seeing your schedule and feel like i should switch it up. do you think there are advantages of taking PTs in order or do you think it would be just as advantageous or more advantageous for me to go in the order of your schedule above so I can BR with people?

So just to clarify,

Could A be correct if it were to say: "Any general theory of art that achieves its purpose explains every aesthetic feature of painting and every aesthetic feature of sculpture."

Sufficient Assumption Questions are DEMONIC

Alright folks... I feel as though I'm missing some brain cells when I do SA and PSA questions. I just did the Marsupials question.. I'm certain some of you know that one. And MY GOODNESS what a fucking terrible combination of sentences!!!! I'm going to go take a break before I decide to throw my computer into a pit of fire. But what am I missing??????? I've reviewed the SA section a couple times because I still lack in this area. I've now memorized the valid and invalid argument forms and have scored perfectly on the logic quizzes leading up to the actual SA questions, but when the questions are incredibly convoluted, i get really lost and my logic game goes south.

Can someone just give me a vote of confidence or tell me how they overcame their struggle with these type of questions? Please know that I am complaining, but not giving up. I am going to keep drilling, just needed a little venting and break time.

But seriously, fuck these questions.

:-) Sliz

I am on an interesting schedule that I just started, we will see how it goes. @ @ @ @ @. I am about take PT 37 and I will take PT 38 on Friday.

As of Sunday, I started trying to take 2-3 PTs a week M/W/F and then doing Pacifico's logic games attack strategy T/TH/ST, which leaves me extra time to blind review the day of and day after each timed test I take. This also leaves Sunday for me to review anything that I need to again from the previous week, look over weaknesses, and retake the Logic Games PTs from Saturday for the 2nd time as Pacifico's attack strategy mentions.

I am down to BR anytime for tests after I take them or to BR for logic games for those of you who are also drilling LGs. I just want to add that even if I've already taken a PT and BRed it, I would enjoy sitting on a Skype call to review it again for those of you who take it later bc I know the importance of talking things out, so I am free to float.

Also, I think it's really helpful for everyone if we exclude talking about our test scores when we BR and just focus on going deep into analysis of the stimuluses, questions, and answer choices. I took a Stratus Prep intensive course in NY a couple summers ago (what a joke) and once (literally once), I agreed to attend a test review and ended up feeling worse when I left than I did when I entered. It was mainly because others were more interested in comparing scores and proving each other wrong than actually just working together to review the "why" in what questions were missed. Since then, I've been a bit apprehensive to work with others mainly because I don't need anything else fucking w my head haha this test has given me enough anxiety to last a lifetime. So, if you agree and want to start hitting the BRing, let me know what you're doing and we can try to coordinate either in this discussion forum or in my inbox.

@ @ @ @ and all others considering or taking Feb LSAT - please let me know if yall want to BR together on timed tests - not sure where everyone is in curriculum but if our schedules align - i think it would be great to just go through PTs with each other and keep positive.. also, i look like a crazy person talking to myself at the library, so it'd be nice if i had others to talk to about answer choices sometimes.. haha

Valid Argument Forms

Hi Everyone!

I am currently working on memorizing the valid argument forms and I was just wondering if there were any study methods yall used to help you memorize them aside from the curriculum. I have had a bit more trouble with this section than I have with others so any feedback or suggestions that may have helped yall master these concepts would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Liz

Regardless of popular belief, studies show middle-aged people are more fearful of dying than elderly people.

What is the discrepancy? Why are middle-aged people more fearful of dying when elderly ppl are more likely to die considering their age?

Could it be that middle aged people are financially supportive of more people, or that elderly ppl are more comfortable with dying bc they've lived more and gained more wisdom?

Each one of the following if true contributes to an explanation of the phenomenon shown by the studies EXCEPT:

Remember to circle the answers that contribute to explanation and X the answer that does not contribute to make it easier for yourself.

A) Longer a person lives, more likely they have to come to terms with dying. Yes, this contributes to explanation.

B) Middle-aged people have more people dependent upon them - yes also contributes to explain - they don't want to leave people behind or leave people struggling.

C) Many people who suffer from depression first become depressed in middle age. How is this related to elderly people handling death though and does this mean these "many people" are cured later? So middle-aged people get sad first when they are middle-aged... but plenty of people can be depressed without have a fear of dying - some people who are depressed actually want to die. We'd have to make the assumption that because they are depressed, they fear dying, which isn't necessarily connected. This is the answer because it does not contribute to the explanation of the phenomenon.

D) The longer one lives, the more imperturbable one becomes (I had to look up imperturbable on blind review which means "unable to be upset or excited; calm") but basically this means the longer one lives, the more calm and level-headed they are about dying - so yes, this also contributes to explanation of phenomenon.

E) Middle-aged ppl have more acute sense of their mortality than do people of any other age group. This also helps to explain phenomenon - think about it - if you are middle aged and more acutely aware of your own death than any other age group, you are more fearful of dying than young people as well as elderly people. so of course this would help explain the phenomenon since we are only trying to discover why middle aged ppl are more fearful of dying than one particular group, elderly people.

Hi @ just wanted to let you know i searched "clean copy BR" in the search tab of the discussion box and got a lot of great advice from you and others in the past regarding my question. I am interested in doing tutoring with you via Skype or phone, so i'd like to have a consultation with you next week if possible. I've been thinking more about what you said regarding me taking it in December and my "end all be all" attitude.. I am considering taking it in February to be more fully prepared because i don't like the idea of only taking 20 PTs and BRing when I know i need more time to fully master this test the way that i want. I'm not going to decide that until the end of this month though - i dont have a lot of statistics to go off of right now so I want to see how my PTs and BRs are before I decide. How can I schedule a consultation with you?

Same situation here as @ -- i am finishing curriculum today, starting to test tomorrow. Pacifico told me that in order for me to test efficiently i should probably only take 2-3 tests a week and BR extensively. That leaves me with at most 20 tests until December 5. So I am just going to see what i am scoring around the end of this month and decide then if I want to sit out for December and take February instead. It's difficult to know what the right thing is because my question is: will law schools still take my application seriously in february? is that too late to still get accepted into top schools? part of me says yes, they will likely consider me more if i have a higher LSAT and wait it out in December, but also part of me says will i miss out on financial aid or scholarships from lesser-than but still awesome law schools by me waiting until February to give LSAC a score ... What do you guys think?

I've been out of undergrad for 4 years now, and have a masters degree, BUT this test is the only thing holding me back from my goal of applying this year (i also had a goal of applying last year but my job as a paralegal was soul-sucking and time-sucking). I have all my rec letters in, etc. and even moved from NYC back to my parents house in Texas 2.5 months ago, so that my job could be to solely study! Living in NY was a huge reason for why I wasn't able to commit 100% while trying to financially stay afloat (aka have a job) Haha. I am so envious of my brother at times because he is one of these unicorn people who took 5 practice tests, went to take the lsat and scored 172. For us non-unicorns, but still exemplary people who are not natural test-takers but have other amazing characteristics... let's just keep each other feeling positive! Hard work pays off and we are getting our shit done! i am down to study and/or talk about all of this with yall. It's nice to air this out here and not have to listen to my parents tell me my clock is ticking.. both my lsat clock and my fertility clock... lol. im not kidding. my mom is deeply concerned about when/if her grandchildren are coming someday. happy studying!

Hi @ thank you for your advice. It's funny that you were the one who commented because I've always found your comments very helpful particularly in Logic Games and Reading Comp. I understand what I'm going up against, but also financially, I really don't have a choice so I will have to go through with my decision and hope for the best. Will you just reiterate to me what "excellent clean copy BR" looks like to you? I've done a lot of BR when going over sections and curriculum, but what does excellent BRing look like for a test? Just want to make sure I don't miss out on any little thing considering I won't have the opportunity to take all 40 before December. Thank you for your wisdom.

Needing Help in deciding preparation for December Test

Hi Everyone,

I will officially finish 7sage curriculum tomorrow. It has taken me longer to get through the curriculum than expected according to my study schedule, but I felt that it was important for me to take my time understanding each point of the curriculum in depth. I started at the beginning of August, but have had some previous LSAT training in the past, so I feel confident about where I'm at in my understanding and in my decision to take my time.

However, part of me is frustrated with myself now because I'm having fears about the # of practice tests i will be able to take before December. I want to preface that I absolutely have to take the LSAT in December, this is not something i can put off nor is it something I want to put off (I've studied for the LSAT on and off for year, finally quit my job and moved home so i could dedicate sufficient time to studying for this). I know in a perfect world I would put it off until February and have more time with practice tests, but that is not an option at this point in my life for several reasons, so i need advice for the best possible outcome of my situation. I will obviously retake in February if needed, but my score has to count in December.

So, my question is: how many practice tests a week would you recommend me taking in order to most benefit from testing experience, blind review, and not burning out before December 5? I am a huge fan of Blind Review and see the difference in my ability to retain information after doing it, so by no means do I want to race through 40 tests without feeling I've done adequate review of each test. My only job is to study for the LSAT, so I have unlimited time to study/take PTs.

Thanks for your help,

Liz
