Your three-sentence biography.

1.) My name is Sarah, I'm 23, and I graduated in May 2015 with a degree in Political Science. Since graduation I've worked at an elementary school in New Orleans as a substitute teacher and a lead staff member in their after school program. I'm taking the LSAT in December and I'm interested in child advocacy/education law or civil rights law.

2.) Kind of freaking out over the idea of a personal statement. I'm a strong writer but I'm struggling big time with potential topics.

3a.) How I came to realize I wanted to be a lawyer after years of adamantly rejecting the idea.

3b.) I'm hoping to start interning with a local non-profit law office soon. This office was a big part of my decision to apply to law school, so I'm thinking this could be formed into some kind of personal statement topic.

4.) I did not attend last time, I'm new to 7Sage!

@.rizeq @ @.busis

Thank you so much! That advice is really helpful and exactly what I was looking for.

I like yours too! I was sure someone else already had a Schuyler Sisters avatar but maybe I was just thinking of your A.Ham one. :)

When is an addendum necessary?

I'm looking for some clarification on when/when not to write an addendum for a less than stellar GPA. When is it necessary and/or helpful to write one?

I graduated with a 3.3 GPA and also have a few Ws on my transcript, but I can't figure out whether an addendum is used for a situation like mine or if it's intended for students with much lower GPAs or who have failed classes. I'm pretty confident in my LSAT score, I have a resume that's relevant to the field of law I'm interested in, and I know my LORs will be great. Should I write one for my GPA anyway? My target is a middle tier school.

Hopefully this all makes sense, I'm flying solo in terms of figuring out law school applications so I don't want to mess anything up!

Personal Statement/Optional Essay overlap?

Hi!

I'm finishing up my PS and optional essay, and I'm realizing the two are pretty connected. My PS (on the topic of why I want to go to law school) is centered around a problem affecting students that I experienced as an educator and how I want to become a lawyer to combat that problem.

My optional essay (why I'm applying to X school) is mostly about how I want to attend this particular school because they have such a strong program for students who want to practice education law. I'm listing certain courses, faculty, a practicum program, and journal as specific reasons.

I guess my concern here is whether or not I should reference my PS in my optional essay? And to what extent? My PS talks about how I worked in education for the past several years, do I mention it again in my optional essay?

Hope this makes sense and isn't a reiteration of a question that's been asked a million times before! Any advice on overlapping personal statements/optional essays would be welcome!

Trying to improve speed on Logic Games

LG is consistently my worst section on PTs. When I try a Logic Games section without the pressure of finishing in 35 minutes, I usually do pretty well (maybe 2 or 3 wrong answers), but when I do a timed section, I'm getting 8 or 9 questions wrong and sometimes I run out of time completely.

I think my problem is keeping track of the time, though I don't have this issue with LR or RC. I feel confident in my ability to make inferences and diagram games, but I'm sure there are ways to improve that as well.

Any tips on keeping time/moving quickly through logic games? Am I just being impatient? It's just frustrating because I can see improvement in every other area that I'm working on.

If you like trivia shows, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me is a really fun current events quiz show!

The host and a panel of three or four comedians play different games centered around current events and telling real news from fake news. Sometimes the comedians are the contestants but usually listeners will call in. The panel will read hilarious/unbelievable stories and the caller has to figure out which one is real, or the host will do a rapid fire current events quiz. In the second half a celebrity calls in for an interview and then a quiz round. It's produced by NPR/WBEZ Chicago and I love it!
