June LSAT

Hey Guys,

I studied roughly 6 months for the February LSAT, took the test and scored relatively lower than my PT average. I had a pretty bad test day; they tried to kick me out off the bat et cetera. I scored a 159 while my general average was around a 164 or higher.

I am thinking about retaking the June LSAT. After taking a small break, I feel so much better looking at the test. Things just come to me naturally in a way that seemed so foreign before. HOWEVER

the problem is I only have roughly 3 PTs I have not taken. What should I do?

I took about a month and a half off, and when I look at old PTs I don't consciously remember any of the questions, however I am scoring oddly higher (167 range). I don't know if this is due to the break, or subconscious memory.

What do you guys think, can I learn with these 'old' PTs?

Should I reserve the untainted PTs to one a week?

I wrote the conditional as SC ---> /R which I thought made more sense I.E. if the species is to survive change, then that change was not rapid, and the contrapositive of R ---> /SC, if the change is rapid, the species will not survive change.

Is this wrong? I thought it suited the condition quite nicely, however if there is a hard and fast rule concerning 'as long as' as a sufficient or assumption indicator I really would like to know for when I see this again on a future test!

Feb LSAT

If Feb LSAT is undisclosed, how is it that the test creators know their questions are not flawed? Should I be troubled by this? lol

I bought the LSAT 180 watch against my better judgement and really like it. I am aware its over priced/poorly made et cetera but it has solidly done the trick, easy to use, second hand moves only every two seconds so when you glance its at a stand still (I know.. im lame) and am happy I bought it. Just sayyyiin!

I am also a very anxious person, and while it may not seem like much I like just pressing one button and not having to worry about it

Ill tell you what, I don't know about you guys, but I am totally 100% ready to take this test. Everything else aside, I am simply ready to go back to real life. I will remember this experience.. for the rest of my life.

I plan on just doing a PT maybe every other day, with various full day breaks (maybe 2-3). The day between PT's continue to review while doing maybe 3 new logic games additional to the new LG's per test daily. Final week, maybe 1 PT daily for 4 consecutive days, with a full day off the day before the actual test. Yourself?

Yeah same thing happened to me. RC became much more difficult out of nowhere, and I felt as though the LR passages, while still the same core idea, became a little different i.e. context becoming more relevant sometimes, structurally more clear but still different et cetera. I've seen my score jump back up to where it used to be as long as I didn't get discouraged and just kept focusing on the question of: How is my understanding wrong/why did I get this wrong, and how do I understand it/identify it, not only more quickly but with more accuracy.

I get it, and I actually got this answer right however I'm curious to see if my understanding of logic is off,

While not making the further reach across the chain to 'make no sense', does not answer choice B infer that reach by the 'valid' argument made in the premises?

If people should not make promises to do something that is not within their control, does it not implicitly chain to 'make no sense', which its necessary condition in this argument structure?

Can anyone substantiate this?

Br, immediately saw it.. I somehow totally skipped the word 'conclusion', and just saw is false under timed conditions and was baffled by all of the answer choices.

RC transformation

Hey Guys,

I just started using much more recent PT's as my test date nears and I wanted to see if anyone felt the same way about RC passages and LR.

Has it seemed as though the RC passages became incredibly more difficult around the mid 2000's? Or is it just me getting in my own head because I've spent more time on LR recently?

The questions even seems somewhat 'different', there seems to be much more inference involved rather than pulling enumerated pieces from the passage.

Maybe Im wrong ive only done a few modern PTs, just wanted to see everyone elses opinion on the matter. The pre 2000 RC seems like a cakewalk now haha

Time Management

Question guys!

I was curious, if for certain question types anyone simply scans directly for the correct answer, or upon seeing the correct answer; even relatively early among answer choices (A or B for example), selects it and moves on in an effort to fortify time remaining for more difficult question types .

Is this a dangerous tactic? Can this be a good tactic for answer choices that clearly shine true, such as conclusion/MP questions et cetera?

I employed this method upon my first few pts without much thought upon around the first 10 Q's in LR and found I was saving a vast amount of time by not reading wrong answer choices (I was finishing almost 10 minutes early with minimal unaccredited responses (for me anyway, around -4) . I refrained from using this method several PTs later after coming across mid section problems I would get wrong by not reading ALL of the answer choices. Now a days, time is a serious issue for me and can score anywhere from -4 to -10, the larger portion of negatives owing to the time crunch I think.

IF anything, could this be used as an effective means of time management? Or does it seem too dangerous

Thanks in advance

Older Lsat??

Hey guys, I have a question if anyone is willing/able to shed some light on the matter

.

I have just finished the power score bibles, and purchased every LSAT (actual officials ect) administered test. I have three months count down until my test date.

I may be wrong but it seems that the advice to redo the games over and over again until those exact inferences become second nature parallels that of every section on the LSAT no? It seems the lsat creators are testing for a very particular thing, and doubt that the tests deviate in the idea its testing too much (in recent years anyway)

So my question is, do you think it would be beneficial to select only say 25/30 recent tests and do them over and over again until Feb? Or should I do as many random tests as possible, while scrutinizing my wrong answers afterward to debunk areas of failure?

Also do you think the older logic games and tests are worthless? It seems they have changed so much that they might be relevant? or is the wisdom still inherent

I am also dealing with the weight gain. The whole time I just kept telling myself.. this is too important, the gym can wait! And then I saw my passport photo for the test and was like.. uh oh. I better hit my target score hahaha

Maybe I'm over thinking it but out of all the questions this one gave me the most trouble.. haha.

Who says what therapeutic value is, ya know? If stress were to be a symptom of a weakened immune system (which it could very well be within the context of this argument, as stress is not talked about until the conclusion) then is it not therapeutic if one alleviates the symptom?

Haha I saw a logic game on the floor, and I instinctively picked it up to do it. I then realized that I didn't need to. So weird! I also log in here out of habit and without a purpose. ahhhh

Preparation before PT/Actual test

Hey guys, another question!

I was curious, what methods, if any, do you guys generally like to take directly before you take a PT (or plan to do before the actual test) to not walk in on a test cold.

What I mean is, do you normally do a Logic game, to warm up? Read an RC passage? Nothing?

Just curious, as I generally do a logic game or two, and a couple LR questions to warm up. Regardless, I've seen a trend of -7 in the first LR, and then a -3/-0 in the second LR after ive 'warmed up' on the first section. Is it possible I should do more LR to bust in on the first LR section more effectively, or are my results merely due to a tendency for the test makers to make one LR section more difficult than the other? Am I in danger or doing to much before a test resulting in exhaustion?

Just curious about your warm up strategies!

How often

Hey guys,

I was curious how often during an LR section do you try or prefer to write out the conditional logic?

Do you only do it when you generally HAVE to, or do you prefer it to simplify the situation at hand?

When you see a logical indicator do you immediately chart it, or does it ALWAYS depend on the question stem?

I'm wondering if I'm wasting time charting conditional statements when they aren't actually relevant.

PT: Method of study?

After doing quite a bit of preparatory work and taking about 7 PT's (thus far), I was curious if you guys would think it an improper method of study to ONLY do pts from this point forward with intense blind review and then further review. Is there a point where its time to only take pts? Im a little under 2 months out and am feeling that I might gain more understanding by dealing only with the tests. Ive purchased every available pt, so running out of fresh material from now until test day given the time line isn't an issue.

I guess what the real question is, while I am admittadly a little hazy in some areas, do you think intense study of the PTs would achieve a more applicable understanding rather than taking the time away from that to re-watch/read preparatory curriculum I have already reviewed (as I have reviewed them all at least once)

Yeah I think I am just going to take one last PT today, review tomorrow and just hang out Friday. I don't know why, but i feel so bad when I'm not studying. But I have gotta get over it, its becoming counter intuitive at this point haha

Good luck Saturday!

4 Days out

I feel like I'm starting to burn out, and with such a short amount of time between now and the test I'm not sure what the best option is.

I wanted to take a PT a day, but I'm afraid ill loose my edge come game day.

Anyone advice/similar feelings? People say at this point in the game you have learned all you can before the test anyway, however I'm not sure if building stamina should be the priority here, or rest or what.

Opinions greatly appreciated!

Step:0

I know this curriculum identifies the first step as reading the question stem and then the stim, however I know that this is also somewhat controversial i.e. the powerscore series/lsat trainer have different things to say.

Does anyone have a preference? Do you think its critical?

Hey guys,

How many minute(s) (max-min) do you guys aim for when reading a RC passage with reasonable comprehension? Do you read more for comprehension, or simply for relative placement?

Thanks!!

I have no idea why, but once in a while, as was the case with this LR question, I 'read' a different conclusion than is stated. Does this happen to anyone? it took me like 7 minutes during BR to realize they said 'dropped' and not 'created' and the whole time I'm going, there is no way ANY of these answer choices help show, by the fact coins are underneath these implements that they weren't made before the coins. Oy vey.. ill tell ya

I've come across the same thing. For one reason or another, I develop confidence by moving more quickly throughout the exam. I feel as though when I'm getting backed up per question, the time pressure incrementally builds up towards the end of the test and gets to me. I run out of time/confidence to get particular questions I would have otherwise gotten right, wrong. I've found that as of recent, I keep the idea that I can always come back with a fresh mind after I finish all of the questions in my back pocket, rather than trying to 100% figure it out right then and there. I've been finishing LR sections with 8 minutes +/- to spare, and use that time to go back and do either unseemly long q's I skipped to complete or review q's I was unsure of.

Thanks!!
