It really depends on the school, some of them have deadlines all the way in August. I would call and confirm with the specific schools you’re interested in.

NY Study Partners (Morning)

Hi,

This is a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone here studying for the June 2019 LSAT either works/lives near midtown and would be willing to meet up in the mornings to prep? By morning I mean sometime between 7:30am - 8:50am before work M-F. We wouldn't necessarily need to work together, independent prep would be just fine.

I know a few coffee shops in the Grand Central area.

Let me know, thanks!

I think you're actually obligated to include it. It may seem somewhat innocuous now, but an omission like that could raise unnecessary C&F questions from down the line. Applying to law school isn't the same as applying to a job, they generally expect you to be transparent and include everything.

Also, when you're filling out your law school applications, they ask you for your start and end dates for each position. A recent end date will be obvious and noticeable. I actually think it's more of a "pro" than a "con" to include it. How many startup CEOs apply to law school every year? It'll make you stand out. Just make sure you explain your story in your personal statement, i.e. how going to law school ties into your plans for running your start up.

You can submit even if if your LORs haven't been uploaded yet. I previously called LSAC about this. You can assign the LOR/recommender to a school; then hit submit. Your application will be marked incomplete with the school, but once the letter is uploaded, LSAC will send it over.

Blueprint came out with a score converter today for the Flex.

They made an announcement on Reddit: https://blog.blueprintprep.com/lsat/calculate-your-lsat-flex-score/

Hi All,

I'll be finalizing my personal statement and diversity statement within the next few days and would love to have more people take a look and provide some constructive feedback. Would be happy to provide feedback on your materials as well.

I'm mainly looking for feedback on clarity, conciseness and overall impression, but if you have other suggestions on any other aspect of the essays, I'd be open to hearing them out.

Please send me a PM if interested. Thanks!!

Where exactly would you want to work with a concentration in environmental law? Private firm, government...? I would look at how well the school can place you where you think you'd might like to work. Does the school have relationships with certain organizations? How successful have these school's graduates been in getting jobs in this field?

You might want to reach out and talk to current students/alumni about their experiences with the job placement process as well. They might be able shed insight on what employers value most when hiring entry level attorneys.

If there haven't been any updates since then, I would send a polite and respectful follow-up email, inquiring about the status of your application. Reiterate your interest and ask about their anticipated timeline for a decision (if any). Or if you feel comfortable, maybe just give them a phone call.

Fear of Taking Practice Tests

Hi,

I'm not entirely sure why but I seem to come across a mental roadblock when it comes to taking full-length practice tests. I schedule them for Saturday afternoons, but then I find myself pushing them off week after week. I just always feel really under-prepared for them, regardless of how much I actually studied. I also don't really know where I stand right now in terms of my score, although I would guess in the low 160s, based on timed,35-min sections.

I think I might be scared to face my timed score at this point in my studies. I've been studying for over a year and I have a pretty strong grasp of the fundamentals. However, I find myself wanting to give up before even sitting down to take a full practice exam.

How do I get over this fear? Do you guys have tips/tricks for this kind of thing?

Any help would be most appreciated, thank you.

I would try to re-confirm the math on the GPA prediction first.

There are online GPA calculators that will do the math for you, you can google around for this.

Ex: https://gpacalculator.net/college-gpa-calculator/

Can one semester of straight As or A+s really raise it up to a 3.0? I remember my overall (combined) gpa barely barely went up a few decimal points even after all straight As in a semester, I think it depends on how many cumulative credits you've already taken and how many credits you plan to take on.

Note, LSAC adds more weight to A+ grades (4.3 on the grading scale, whereas some undergrad institutions simply value an A+ at a 4.0). Also they average out all grades if you repeat a course, and both the original and repeat grade show up on your transcript.

See the link to the webpage for their grading scale: https://www.lsac.org/applying-law-school/jd-application-process/jd-application-requirements/academic-record

If you can confirm the extra semester will put you in the 3.0 range and you feel confident about your ability to get the highest possible grades, then I would actually try to stay another semester and get that GPA bumped up. A 3.0 is a solid B, and is less of an eyebrow raiser than a 2.7, which is like a C+/B-. It will also help you out when it comes to merit scholarships too.

If you choose this route, then depending on your course load and how much time you have left over, I would begin digging into the basics of LSAT fundamentals. If this is your first time being exposed to the material then it's important to take your time to absorb it and understand it correctly from the beginning of your LSAT prepping period. Set a goal to do a little bit of the Core Curriculum every week.

Take a bit of a break if you need to, and then take the summer to begin timed sections/ PT phase of LSAT prep... going into the Fall. It's important to keep to a steady schedule of taking full-length PTs once you get to this phase. Most people advise between 15-20 PTs or so. Join the free blind review sessions offered on here and get an accountability partner if you can.

One of my biggest regrets post-graduating, is not taking advantage of "easy A" courses while I still had the chance to boost my gpa. You have to be strategic, since applying to law school is (largely) still a numbers game. Once you graduate that number is set in stone.

Post-graduate grades such as those from a master's degree are not counted for your lsac GPA.

The alternative, I suppose, is to gain some valuable work experience instead while you invest your time in the LSAT. Take a diagnostic if you haven't already and see how far you'd need to go to get to your goal score, this will help you build an overall study plan up until your registered exam date.Your goal score btw should be at or above a school's 75th percentile score, since your lsac GPA will likely be below their 25th percentile at many schools. Check the schools you're interested in to see what this number range is (probably above a 168 or so...), ABA 509 reports will have this information.

Feel free to pm me if you have any other qs, I've been in a situation similar to yours before.

And best of luck.

Supposed to start at noon. Bc of connectivity/webcam issues didn’t get to start until around 2:30pm. Longest day ever. I got interrupted twice in the middle of the exam Bc my webcam apparently wasn’t showing video. I had an external one connected via USB. No issues when I did the equipment check. Sighs. Anyway I had a law-related passage, Mexican murals, water usage, and birds for my RC. LR included like 4 disag type qs and one on politicians dodging qs. Games included the one about grants/parks/roads.

Afraid that I messed up on one of the earlier games Bc I hadn’t accounted that the rule could be diagrammed two different ways. Hoping I got most of the LG points though. Messed up on LR for sure. Felt I was stuck b/w 2 answers for like 5-6 qs. I think this was just bc I hadn’t practiced enough of the tougher LR qs. RC was average/ ok to me. Although that last passage about birds got me F’d up Bc I literally didn’t know the meaning of a crucial word in the passage. It wasn’t until I was reading over some of the qs/answer choices that I could finally figure out the meaning. Middle of the passage was still confusing though.

Anyway. Good luck everyone. Maybe I’ll sign up for June, maybe I won’t. We shall see.

Looking for In-Person Study Partner (NYC)

Hi y'all,

My current study partner and I are looking for a third person to join us for full-length PTs and BR sessions in-person.

We meet by the library at Bryant park Saturday mornings, take our PT, self-review, take a break and then BR as a group. Sessions are intense and last pretty much all day long (going from 10am-7/8pm or so). We're studying for the October & November exams and looking for another study partner committed to reaching a mastery-level understanding of this test, ideally someone already scoring in the165+ range under timed/BR conditions.

We review pretty thoroughly with the goal of extracting as many little lessons as we can from the questions.

Feel free to hmu to discuss further, if interested. Thanks! :)

^Agreed. Working with Dave for logic games was the biggest game changer for me (no pun intended). He really knows how to break down and methodically approach games/questions in a way that's super easy to understand and replicate. I went from being super anxious about logic games to feeling very comfortable completing any game (this obviously also took a ton of practice outside of tutoring, but so worth it).

7sage has an approved list of tutors on here btw:

Hi, I'm reapplying and I have an early decision deadline coming up very very soon.

Really need someone to look at a third version of my essay and provide feedback on content and structure.

Absolutely willing to provide feedback on any of your essays in return.

Any takers?

It’s not allowed with you in the testing room, even if it’s turned off. If you get caught with it, you’ll get asked to leave and that dismissal shows up on your record. At one of my testing centers (downtown nyc) they made us empty out our pockets while waiting in line and thoroughly checked our plastic bags. Guess it depends on how strictly your center follows the rules, but I wouldn’t risk it.

Recommendation Letters

Hi Guys,

So I've been having a hard time getting over the awkwardness of reaching out to professors I haven't spoken to in 1-2 years to ask for law school recommendation letters. The professors I plan to ask, have written recommendation letters for me in the past and have also agreed to serve as job references for me. However, it's been a year and a half since I've kept in contact with them.

Since I do not know if they are currently still teaching at my old undergrad, I'll have to reach out to them via email. Do you guys have any suggestions, tips, advice for the best way to go about requesting letters from them? I am afraid they will just flat out say no or ignore the request, which would leave me VERY stuck.

To add, if they do agree, I would like them to address specific aspects of my applicant profile such as participation in Mock trial (which they are aware is something I participated in). Should I send them some of the work I did in their class in the initial email request? I did receive As in both classes, and although I may not have been a standout student, I did well in their classes and I would be someone they'd remember. Perhaps I am overthinking all of this.

Nevertheless, any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Personally, I condensed everything onto a single page and just separated with headers (unless the application asked us to upload separate statements for different questions/sections).

Confirm action

Are you sure?
