It’s hard to accept that you’re not as “naturally smart” as others and that you have to study or work 4 times as much or twice as long to get the same score to get into elite schools. Thats what it seems its going to take for someone like you, who I am sure has other gifts, but killing standardized tests is not one of them....at this point.

On the other hand, my cousin is graduating from a lower ranked law school this year but he is one of their top students—there’s a lot to be said about being a “big fish in a small pond,” and he has many great career opportunities against those who are from the top tier schools but who are lower performers within their school. The “others” from work and your social circles, if they give you a hard time about it, are not worth your time or energy.

Do your very best with what gifts and opportunities you’ve been given and good things will follow.

All the best.

I’ve got four kids under 8 yrs of age in my house (wife’s amazing!); love em all but yeah super hard to study consistently. “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast,” is what someone said on a movie (can’t recall) but its intuitively true!

ASU has best Indian law program hands down in America plus AZ has largest Navajo rez in USA.... FYI ... if Indian law is your niche that should be on your shortlist

Also Hawaii has top native Hawaiians program who are also considered native Americans

Ive always been fascinated by the free exercise clause....more and more elite law schools are implementing free exercise clinics protecting religious people from unnecessary govt prohibition/interference in their right to believe and live out publicly their religious convictions.

If I were you and I already graduated from BYU I’d hit Columbia up to diversify my resume and experience ...yes you’ll have way more debt...but that’s manageable through 10 yr federal service forgiveness program or 20-25 yrs of qualifying payments, which if you have kids , lowers your payments....the experience of an elite education like that is hard to pass up ....look at many of the top church leaders , they went to top law schools too and they did just fine.....graduating from BYU debt free is great and all but working and schooling with the diversity of Columbia and then seeing where that will take you to serve in an even more diverse way is much more exciting....my motto is you should go to the top school that accepts you and do your best and if you do you’ll make plenty of money to pay it back but most of all you have the journey of a lifetime!

hey man, right there with ya (138-157)....amazing stuff...huge congrats

Just got my score posted on lsac---

don't post a lot of comments on here but have been using 7sage curriculum on and off for last two years.....got a wife and 4 kids, work full time .....this is a life changing score for me, my dream of getting into a law school can be actualized with this score, thank you for all your posts.....everyone played a part.

I went in blind on an official test in 2018 and had no idea what I had gotten myself into but i stuck to curriculum and practice sections (mainly) --- it works when you work it.....

not the best score but will get me into all my target schools.....one of the happiest days of my life y'all!

keep grinding 7 sagers.....your goal score is just around the corner....

There are alot of mindfulness techniques on line. But i simply will focus on a positive phrase or affirmation and breath slowly for a few minutes at a time, especially when i am feeling anxious, in and out, just paying attention to the physical sensations i am having along with the positive phrase or affirmation.

also, just like you mentioned--being more present, in the moment--because that is essentially what mindfulness is--paying attention to the NOW as opposed to being depressed about the past or anxious about the future. Let everything go and focus on you and how you are feeling. being aware of your feelings in the moment is a huge part of controlling and regulating your feelings.

Doing this throughout the day when you dont feel emotionally present or at certain scheduled times helps me stay focused on my goals.

WRT maintaining a never give up attitude....that is simply stubbornly never giving up on working towards your goals. no matter how many times you fail. its not complicated, just keep at it.

WRT balance: IDK if there is such a thing---haha--life itself is unsettling and at times you will have more time to do one thing than another. sometimes you'll get more sleep and sometimes you won't. sometimes you'll miss a workout and sometimes you dont eat. try to keep a routine obviously, wouldnt that be nice to stay on schedule, but be flexible.

I have a wife and 4 kids and work full time---its hard balancing all of that on top of trying to study....just fit it in where you can 15 min here 2 hours there....try to maintain balance and good health, dont give up, tell yourself that you are worthy of the endeavor and that everyday is an adventure where there will be ups and downs.

work hard, play hard, sleep hard

you're gonna do great

expectation management, gratitude and mindfulness meditation

hire a tutor (or get an accountability or study buddy) for weekly (regular) checkins to keep you on track and an outlet to tackle difficult issues

exercise and eat well as well as maintaining a somewhat regular sleep schedule

I hope your last sentence is not your conclusion. that sounds like you are thinking about suicide? please call a suicide hotline and seek professional help--that is dangerous territory you are treading.

adjust the expectations you have of yourself and seek gratitude. practice mindfulness. what is your WHY? these sorts of approaches help.....

again, please seek professional help: symptoms like suicidal thoughts require specialized intervention and maybe even medication. i wish you all the best.
