C is wrong because:

the argument is about "dependent" statements and what is being dependent upon is not a necessary condition. "Dependent upon" indicates a contingent relation, i.e. not logical necessary, and you cannot contra-pose for this reason. For example, consider the claim that states that high social status is dependent on hard working. It is not necessarily true that if you are not hard working, you do not have high social status, cuz some of you could get it from inherence. Answer choices C invalidly contra-pose what the stimulus said is being dependent upon, i.e. "the chemical reaction are subject to uncontrolled temperature", so it is wrong.
