I thought the same thing. But this is what I realized.
This question is saying that there are more beetles in the garden overall (meaning some from outside of the garden come) which is why it increases. I wasn't understanding the "increase" concept because I was thinking that there were a finite number of beetles in the garden so once they were caught I wasn't sure how they were increasing. Now I see.
D- correct because it's showing you that one trap actually attracts beetles who weren't originally in the garden to come to the garden. So even though it's trapping some beetles its attracting more beetles to the garden and not subsequently trapping them. Thats ho the increase happens.
I'm still unclear about how C is a valid argument. I thought that producing much fruit was the conclusion and that "being properly pruned" was the premise to prove that. Making it an invalid argument. I eliminated it because it was not as similar to the stimulus as E, but it was a close second for me. Can anyone explain how he got diagrammed C. I want to make sure I'm doing it properly.
