Using hypotheticals in questions to eliminate wrong answer choices?

So, I was doing Game 4 of PT 61 in which
Q.19 asks J's position cannot be which one of these?
Answer choices:
A.2
B.3
C.5
Q.20 asks If J is in 3, which of these could be true?

Using Q.20 can we safely assume that J can in fact fit in 3 and then use that to eliminate answer choice B?

    Yes, doing that would be correct. You can totally eliminate B using the stimulus of Q20
