Can anyone explain to me why D is correct? This question is about the concert hall.

  • D would explain why the concert goers did not want to remodel the current hall, since a well publicized plan is already in motion. I think the trick answer choice is B, which states that most of the people that live in the vicinity of the concert hall do not want to see it torn down, but in selecting that answer choice, you have make the assumption that most of the concert goers are indeed locals, which is not necessarily true. Hope this helped!

@fahim.rahman111 see thats the explanation I found on both Manhattan Prep and LSAT Hacks and it still doesn't make sense. Why would the fact that a plan is already in motion to make the hall into an auditorium and develop a new hall elsewhere, make people not want to tear down the hall?

@"Cant Get Right" Any idea why D is correct? You have always been helpful for explanations.
  • The important part about the answer choice is that it's well publicized. So if everyone already knows that there's already going to be a new concert hall nearby, it makes sense that they wouldn't want to replace this one.

Hey, no problem Emily, this was a really tough one.

    So our conflict is:
    1. Most are dissatisfied with the concert hall
    yet,
    2. Most of them oppose tearing down the concert hall in order to provide a facility which would better satisfy their preferences.

So what answer choice D does, is it separates the necessity of tearing down the existing concert hall from satisfying the concertgoers' wants from a venue. Before answer choice D, we seem to have one of two options: either go without a new concert hall, or tear down the old one. D gives us an out. We can build a new concert hall on a separate location, so we no longer have to tear down the existing structure to have a new venue. Not only do we get our new concert hall, but on top of that, we also get a new public auditorium. So it's kind of a win win.
