Im confused as to what the difference between the pt's before 2020 and the modern option is. How should we be taking the ones before 2020, with the stimulate modern option or all 4 sections? and. How are the before 2020 ones scored? are all 4 sections scored?

Prior to COVID, the test was five sections long (four scored sections and one unscored). You were guaranteed one LG section, one RC, and two LRs. Then you'd have an unscored random/experimental section. During the first few months of COVID, the test was three scored sections: one LG, one RC, and one LR. Now, the test is four sections (three scored and one unscored). You're guaranteed one LG, one RC, and one LR, and they've reinstated the random experimental section. So when you select the "simulate modern" option, instead of scoring four sections, only three are scored (just as it'll be on test day). The issue many people take with simulating modern is that instead of taking a four section test and not knowing which section is experimental, you'll just have three sections and you'll know they all count.

All of this is to say: there's no perfect way to take PTs. It's mostly personal preference. To get as close as possible to the real test, I'd recommend selecting the simulate modern option so that your test is scored how it'll be scored on the real test, and just tacking on an extra, random section at the end of the PT. That way you test is being scored accurately, but you're also building the mental stamina needed for a four section test.
