    Ultimately the "top school" you can get into should be your choice school but then again it can also depend on scholarship amounts and where you want to practice. If you see yourself practicing in NY then apply to schools in NY. If you don't have a decision on where to practice then apply where ever you like. It comes down to the rank of the school, the amount of scholarship money they give you(after haggling of course) and where you want to practice.

    Location becomes increasingly important as the schools you're targeting become increasingly regional. If you want to practice in NY, NYU is a moderately better choice than UChi given equal scholarship money, etc. But if you're talking about schools like Fordham vs. USC, Fordham will place significantly better in NY
