I do not recommend 7Sage tutoring. My tutor fell well below the expectations I had for 7Sage. I had 8 tutoring sessions. I feel like I learned one general lesson that I need to spend more time upfront in reading the question/passage, but most, if not all, other directives from my tutor I had known already or learned in the live classes.
It seemed like he had little insight into my current progress or study techniques. For example, he would bring up that he doesn't know whether or not I Wrong Answer Journal, but that I should use it because of X and Y reasons. This was odd to me because I had already shown him my journal in the initial lesson. This pattern was consistent for other fundamental topics. I felt as a tutor, he should know whether or not I was practicing a certain strategy, especially if it was so important and we had talked about it before.
I felt like there wasn't enough effort or investment put into the sessions. The study schedule was based on the baseline format I was shown during the free intake consultation and while it was customized based on my problem areas, it didn't adapt based on my evolving learning. My tutor failed in "assign[ing] homework targeted at [my] weaknesses" and "mak[ing] sure I get the most out of each PrepTest." Instead of picking up on my weaknesses there seemed to be an expectation that I should know all my weaknesses and then present them so we could work on them. I expected this to be more of a coaching experience where I could improve with progressions, especially for this price point.
He also rescheduled our session a few times which is understandable, but without sufficient notice. My sessions were around the holidays, so I expected some changes, but I also expected better communication. Once he asked to reschedule at 2:00 AM the day of the session when I had already moved my holiday plans around to accommodate the initial study time.
I did have a few key takeaways from tutoring, so I can't say I learned nothing. However, I strongly believe that he did not provide the quality that is expressed on the 7Sage tutoring page. With the amount of money/investment on the line, I wouldn't take the chance on being assigned to a lower-quality tutor. I did not have a score increase despite doing drills and the recommended ~1-2 PTs per week. The irony is not lost on me that I made a logical error. Just because 7Sage live classes/podcasts/curriculum is great, doesn't mean their tutoring is. Future students, pay for the live classes instead.
Based on an automated sentiment analysis of Reddit posts mentioning 7Sage, we counted 7,500 upvotes on 336 threads. We think this is a (very) conservative estimate— but we’ll leave it to you to scour the subs and see why so many of our students come from Reddit.
