In furtherance of the University?s mission to educate you, as a whole person, your spirit and character upon admittance to law school matter a great deal to us. To help us understand more about the whole of who you are, please address any personal or societal challenges that you have encountered in your life, and how you have persevered in spite of those challenges.

You may use this addendum to explain unusual circumstances which may have influenced your academic performance and/or test score. The optional Supplemental Statement should be uniquely your own with no assistance from others, including AI, in its creation beyond basic proofreading or general critiquing.

FAILURE TO PROVIDE FULL AND ACCURATE ANSWERS AND COMPLETE DISCLOSURE IN RESPONSE TO THE BELOW QUESTIONS MAY RESULT IN UDSL REVOKING ADMISSION OR IMPOSING OTHER APPROPRIATE SANCTIONS. In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

Applicants should be aware that all jurisdictions screen applicants on character and fitness issues before admitting them to be licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction. UDSL is under an obligation to provide any information about an applicant's character and fitness to such jurisdictions upon request.

You have a duty to be truthful and accurate, and to reveal the information requested below even if you do not have complete documentation. Please disclose details of the results of any criminal charges. Disclosure is required even if the charges were dismissed, conviction was reversed, a conviction was set aside, a conviction was vacated and even if the conviction was expunged or the record was sealed.

The Admissions Committee reviews applicants based on all information submitted, including character and fitness information. You are under a continuing obligation to notify the Office of Admissions of any changes in your answers throughout the application process and, if admitted, until the first day of class. Once enrolled, you are under a continuing obligation to notify the Associate Dean of Students and Registrar of any changes in your answers to these questions.

1. Have you ever been cited, arrested, charged, or convicted for any violation of any law including as a juvenile, including traffic violations, but excluding parking tickets?

2. Have you ever been subject to a restraining order?

3. Has a professional association or state licensing board ever suspended or revoked a professional license that you held or has such an association or board ever required you to appear at a proceeding where license suspension or revocation was a possible sanction?

4. Have you ever been terminated, suspended, disciplined, or permitted to resign in lieu of termination from any job, or from any board or volunteer position?

5. Have you ever been dropped, suspended, warned, disciplined, placed on scholastic or disciplinary probation, expelled or requested to resign, or allowed to resign in lieu of discipline from any high school, college or university, or requested or advised by any such institution to discontinue your studies therein?

6. Have you ever failed to answer fully and truthfully all questions on an application for admission to any college or university?

7. Have you ever been the subject of a court martial hearing, dishonorably discharged from military service, received a general discharge or administratively separated from the military service with other than an honorable discharge?

8. Have you ever been charged with fraud?

9. Have you ever defaulted on any debt other than a student loan that was not resolved in bankruptcy?

10. Have you had a debt of $500 or more that has been more than 90 days past due within the past three years that was not resolved in bankruptcy?

11. Have you ever petitioned for bankruptcy?

12. Have you incurred any tax obligation (e.g., federal, state, or municipal income taxes; state, county, or municipal private property taxes; or real estate assessment taxes) that remains unpaid?

13. Have you ever defaulted on a student loan?

14. To your knowledge, have you ever been denied a security clearance?

15. To your knowledge, has a security clearance previously granted to you ever been revoked?

16. Have you suffered from, been diagnosed with, or been treated for kleptomania, compulsive gambling, pedophilia, exhibitionism, or voyeurism?

17. Are there any facts not disclosed by your answers concerning your background, history, experience or activities which may cause one to question your character, fitness or ability to practice law?

If you answered YES to any of the above questions, you must upload a Character/Fitness Statement providing a complete explanation for each affirmative response. For each matter, include, as applicable:

1. The date(s) of the incident, event, action, or condition and your age at the time.

2. The parties, individuals, organizations, institutions, agencies, courts, employers, or other entities involved.

3. A detailed description of the circumstances.

4. The outcome, disposition, status, or resolution of the matter (e.g., dismissal, conviction, discipline, repayment, discharge, settlement, denial, revocation, reinstatement, or other result, as applicable).

5. Any subsequent developments, corrective actions, rehabilitation efforts, appeals, expungements, pardons, reinstatements, satisfactions of debt, or other relevant post-event information.

6. Any additional information necessary to provide a full and accurate understanding of the matter.

As you review these questions and consider your past conduct, if you have concerns about character and fitness issues that could arise when you apply to a state board of bar examiners, research that state's bar application and admission requirements. The National Conference of Bar Examiners (www.ncbex.org) provides basic information for each state and may be a place to begin such research. When requested by state bar examiners, UDSL may be obligated to forward any character/fitness information from your application, including your explanation(s).

Instructions: University of Dayton School of Law (UDSL) The following steps must be completed in order for your application materials to be considered by UDSL:

Register for the Credential Assembly Service. Visit the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) at LSAC.org for instructions and information about the registration process, or contact LSAC at 215.968.1001 or LSACinfo@LSAC.org. Follow the necessary instructions to arrange for the Credential Assembly Service to send us all required documentation. This includes: At least two (2) and no more than four (4) recent letters of recommendation, preferably from persons who can substantively comment on your academic and/or employment record.

All undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts from each school where you obtained credits that contributed toward your undergraduate and/or graduate degree(s).

Submit a score from an approved standardized test. We accept only: the LSAT; or

the GRE General Test; or

the JD-Next Exam.

Please note:

While applicants need only take either the LSAT, GRE or JD-Next, we will consider all scores if you take more than one test. If you have taken the LSAT, we consider that the primary admission test, regardless if you have also submitted a GRE or JD-Next score(s). The standardized test score(s) that you submit must have been earned within five years of the expected date of your entry into law school. Because LSAC provides the Credential Assembly Service, any and all LSAT scores you may have earned within the past five years will be reported on the CAS report automatically. Applicants submitting GRE scores must separately request that all score reports be sent directly to UDSL. Please visit ets.org/gre to request that your score be sent to UDSL (School code for GRE score reporting is 0002-University of Dayton School of Law-Grad). Applicants submitting JD-Next scores must separately request that all scores be sent directly to UDSL. Please visit jdnext.org to request that your score be sent to UDSL. Please see LSAC.org and/or ets.org/gre and/or jdnext.org for more information about the accepted standardized tests and the organizations' score reporting policies. Complete and submit UDSL's application form along with a required personal statement, and optional statement and/or résumé. Make sure ALL required portions of the application are complete, including the character and fitness section. Please carefully read the signature statement before electronically submitting the application. Note for Internationally-educated Applicants: You must use the CAS if you completed your postsecondary degree outside the US (including its territories) or Canada. You do not need to request or submit transcripts for international studies through a study-abroad, consortium, or exchange program sponsored by a US or Canadian institution, and such studies are clearly indicated on your home campus transcript.

For candidates who are noncitizens of the US, an International Credential Evaluation will be completed by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), which will be incorporated into your CAS report.

Application Dates, Notification of Admissions Decisions and Confirmation of Enrollment Submit an application between September 1, 2026 and March 15, 2027. Though our priority application deadline is March 15, 2027, we may accept submission of an applicant's complete application materials until July 15, 2027 (though our entering class may be filled prior to this date). Please be sure to allow ample time prior to any deadlines for the proper submission of your letters of recommendation, transcripts, and test scores, specifically the GRE and JD-Next scores. Please note the Admissions Committee begins the review of an application only after UDSL has received all required application materials through CAS (or if applicable, ETS for GRE scores or Aspen Publishing for JD-Next scores). Review of applications will begin in late fall and will continue through late spring or until the entering class is filled. If accepted to UDSL, you are required to confirm your enrollment by submitting a nonrefundable $400 seat deposit by the date stated in your Letter of Acceptance. The seat deposit will be credited to your tuition and fees account for your first semester. Note: UDSL follows a rolling admissions process. Every attempt is made to inform an applicant of a decision as soon as possible after the application is completed. Because of the extremely detailed review of applications, some decisions may take longer than six weeks.
