Essay Prompt

Describe how one or more aspects of your experiences have impacted your life and prepared you to be part of Mizzou Law, whether it be experiences of support, community, adversity, inequity, or other circumstances you wish to address. Be sure to describe something about you personally as an individual (such as how you were able to overcome a challenge or were motivated to reach a goal or assume a leadership role).

1. In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

2. Have you been placed on academic probation at any college or university? If yes, explain the dates and circumstances in an attachment (see Attachments section).

3. Are you currently/have you ever been subject to disciplinary action/charges at any college or university? If yes, in an attachment, please list the charges, describe the discipline and the circumstances (see Attachments section).

4. Other than minor traffic violations (speeding, parking tickets), have you ever been arrested for any violation of the law? This would include arrests for under-age drinking, driving under the influence of alcohol or any other substance. If yes, in an attachment, name the offense, the date and describe the circumstances (see Attachments section).

Note: You must disclose the information requested in this question even if you received a deferred prosecution, a suspended imposition of sentence, the conviction was stayed or vacated, or the record (including but not limited to proceedings in juvenile court, family court, or any court of general jurisdiction) was expunged.

Application Information, Requirements, and Timetable

First-year JD students are admitted for full-time study each year in the fall only.

Applications are accepted each year beginning September 1 for the next year's Fall Semester. The Admissions Committee will begin meeting in late September or early October. Decisions are made on a rolling basis. Space in the class can be quite competitive. We recommend you take the LSAT early and apply no later than November in the year preceding your intended fall enrollment.

Mizzou Law does not have a structured part-time program, although under special circumstances, students admitted for full-time study may be able to reduce their course load. There are no evening, weekend, or distance courses.

Application Checklist

• Application: Complete the application electronically through the Credential Assembly Service (CAS). Complete answers to ALL questions accurately. False statements, omissions or misrepresentations will be reported to LSAC and may result in the rejection of your application. Though an application may be submitted before LSAT scores have been released as noted below, we will not review it until the scores have arrived. Notify the admissions office of any change(s) in the information you submit.
• Application Fee: Submit the $60 application. This fee is NOT refundable.
• Personal Statement Essay: Please provide a response to the prompt. Your response should be no more than two pages. Do not use the personal statement to explain any legal or educational issues associated with your application here. Please address these issues in a separate optional attachment (see below).
• Resumé: Recommended information includes: education, employment, activities, community service, etc. Resume does not need to be limited to one page.
• Two Letters of Recommendation: While we require two letters, we'll accept up to four. If you are currently an undergraduate student or have graduated within 5 years, we require at least one Letter of Recommendation be provided by a professor who gave you a grade in a course. There is no specific form for letters of recommendation. The letters should be submitted through CAS. Letters of Recommendation are reserved and held in confidence. The submission of your application constitutes your waiver of any and all rights to review Letters of Recommendation retained by this law school.
• Transcripts: After you register for the CAS, you must have a transcript sent to LSAC from each undergraduate and graduate institution you have attended. This includes dual credit in high school, transfer credit, post-graduate work, secondary degrees, Masters, PhD, or any other professional degrees, etc. Applicants are advised to wait until they have completed at least six semesters of undergraduate work before requesting transcripts.
• Law School Admissions Test (LSAT): Applicants are required to submit an LSAT score. Students must register and take the exam through LSAC. We will consider your highest score.
• JD-Next: The LSAT is required. However, applicants may supplement their application with a JD-Next score. If submitting a JD-Next score, please contact jd.next@aspenpublishing.com to arrange sending your score report through LSAC.
• Additional information: Use an attachment to address any legal, character and fitness, educational, or other issues which might be associated with your application. When you apply for the Bar you will be required to disclose any issues and questions will be raised if they have not been disclosed here. If you have any other questions concerning an attachment please contact the admissions office. There is no required format.

Deadlines

Applications must be complete by the dates indicated. All items are necessary for an application to be considered complete. Once LSAC has received and processed your documentation (transcripts, LSAT score(s) and Letters of Recommendation), a minimum of 5 business days are required for the law school to receive these documents after the application is submitted online. Please keep this in mind as the application deadline approaches.

September 1: Application process opens. The Admissions Committee will begin meeting in late September or early October. Decisions are made on a rolling basis. Early application is recommended.

November 15: Deadline to be considered for the binding Early Decision Program Round 1. Please see the MU Law website for details on the Early Decision Program.

January 15: Deadline to apply and be considered for academic scholarships. Consideration is automatic and concurrent with the application review process. Scholarship awards are made at admission. Applicants are notified at time of admission and awards are included with their admission materials. We encourage all students interested in scholarships to apply by January 15. January 15: Deadline to submit the application for MU Law Tiger Scholarships. Please see the MU Law website for more information.

March 1: Priority processing deadline for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The MU school code is 002516.

March 15: Application Deadline. We will consider late applications but for best acceptance and scholarship chances we encourage all applications be submitted by January 15.
