🙃 Confused

Law school at 40?

It's nearly impossible to get into any T6 school in their 40s, right?

My GPA is 3.85ish (T3 public school / soft STEM / 2-3 yrs of job experience / a lot of familial & medical hardships / a foreign military experience) , but can't really do any prep for my LSAT right now because of legal issues I'm currently dealing with.

I'm feeling super anxious because I'm in my late 30s.

Many schools (including T6) have Older Wiser Law Students (OWLS) clubs for students 30+/with more life experience -- and someone's gotta be in the club:) maybe you can find contact info for a club at a school your interested in to see if any of the students would be willing to chat about their experience!

@bilingualspeechpath107 Hi, same here! older and only looking for online and hybrid. Now in a dilemma of canceling my June LSAT because juggling with school, work, home, and my score has dropped. What schools are you considering?

@bilingualspeechpath107 Most of them start this Fall, that is exciting. I just made a decision to postpone my June LSAT and I will try ASU for Winter. Wish you the very best!

I was a director of admissions at a "lowly" T25, @BichNga, but we usually enrolled a handful of students every year who were in their 30s and early 40s. It happens! But for what it's worth, you aren't going to see a lot of stats for the T6 (or the T14, or the T25, etc), just because we're talking about a really small subset of law school applicants in that age range. So admissions officers aren't going to be skeptical of applicants with your age and experience - it's just that we don't see tons of them.

And for what it's worth, the biggest question I always had when reviewing an app from someone at your age is "why are they pivoting their career?" We always want to know why someone wants to go to law school and be a lawyer. But that question is a little simpler for someone who either hasn't started a career yet (a 22 year old) or someone with just a few years of experience (24-25 years old). But if you're in your 30's or 40's, you've really lived a life to this point. It's a bit of a bigger deal to switch gears OR to finally pursue the dream you've been putting off (those are the two categories I would typically encounter in a personal statement).

    I hope that all helps!

no! they dont consider your age, having a stem background and military experience helps a lot too, they like to see diverse backgrounds
