Hi all! I know that the August registration deadline is coming up and wanted to ask for some advice. I am shooting for a goal score of 175 and debating between the August and September tests. My last 5 PTs have been 171, 172, 173, 177, and 172.

I am considering August only because the September test coincides with the beginning of fall semester of my junior year, but I'm concerned that I won't be able to get to my goal score by then. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

    Hey there!

I'm not sure what your situation is, but is signing up for both tests an option, or signing up for August with the thought that you may end up to pushing to September?

I ask because August is a reasonable timeline to reach your goal score, and starting a new semester on the same week as testing is something that I would personally find overwhelming (but you may be built different). If you're PT'ing every week, I'd give yourself until mid-july to see if you're consistently hitting your goal score.

I'm not sure how many times you want/are able to take the test, but if you're open to taking it multiple times, you're already hitting excellent PT scores. Even if you don't get that goal score yet, landing in that range on your first take certainly wouldn't hurt you.

All of this is said with a major disclaimer. It's ultimately up to you, and what you're comfortable with! I'm also more toward the "full send" end of the testing strategy spectrum, so more conservative tutors may have different perspectives than I :)

Whatever you decide is the right decision, and I hope you're taking a second to be proud of yourself for how far your hard work has already taken you. Break a leg, and happy studying!

@PhoebeHopp Hi! Thank you so much for your response :)

I am currently signed up for September, but I'm concerned about taking the September test because of the same reasons that you mentioned (plus, I hit the 170s faster than I had anticipated!). I'm thinking of signing up for August instead, but I'm just concerned about being able to get to my goal score in time.

Retaking during the school year is an option since I'm not applying until next cycle, but balancing a rigorous uni program + LSAT studying is going to be a trip haha. Thanks again for your help!

@plantpreps There are some personal variables that only you know about, but based on the conversation so far, I'd agree with Phoebe that taking both August and September is wise. It sounds like it's not super likely you'll want to/be prepared to sit for exams during the school year. So I'd want to get multiple scores up now while it's your main priority and you're PTing in a great range. As you can see from your PTs, one test can pop out of your typical range, so there's a big advantage to taking a couple chances and letting the volatility work in your favor.
