Hi all,

My undergraduate degree was in astrophysics, so with the exception of coding, I am used to taking all my notes on paper. I know this is the best way for me to retain and visualize information. However, I am on the fence about switching from physical to digital notetaking for law school.

Does anyone have any experience, reflection, or advice about this transition? Pros and cons maybe? My understanding is that law school will require a lot of reading case studies etc which would obviously be easier to annotate digitally than print out. But what about general 1L notes?

Thank you for any feedback! Best of luck to all of you with studying <3

I prefer physical, especially for reading dense material! But I recently switched my note-taking to digital, and while I still prefer the analog, it is not so unbearably different. It is incredibly convenient, although I do believe that I am a faster note-taker with a traditional pen and paper. Not sure of what I'll do in law school yet, but I do love the accessibility of being able to carry all of my notes and readings around everywhere with me. The pros are currently winning for me!

There are plenty of tools and accessibility features that your unique perspective and way of interacting with the world should not be a problem. I hope this would not become a barrier for anyone.

There are tablets with e-pen integration that will allow you to write notes by hand like we see in the video explanations. It can then convert your hand written script into computer text.

Personally I opted for ebooks whenever possible. Let me make the pitch.

    1) light weight. No more carrying books around.

    2) it’s in the cloud, always accessible.

    3) notes are a lot easier. You can screenshot. You can highlight in color.

    4) search function can save time

@NoNamed92 yes, that's exactly what I'm debating is getting an iPad & Apple Pencil! Really appreciate your insight. I think I'm leaning towards this. :)
