I feel like I struggle with RC a lot. I am constantly running out of time on these sections. I want to skip around to the passages that seem easier, but every time I attempt to do this, I don't pick the correct ones and end up spending way too long on a harder one and having not enough time to do more simple ones.

I really don't know how to better improve my RC and I have the test in a week!

  • Hey! I was in a similar place. The strategy that helped me most was:

    1. When taking practice tests, I did the passages in order and didn't fixate on trying to figure out which passage might be easiest for me.

    2. When practicing for RC, I did two types of drills with extensive blind review after I finished:

      1. 4 or 5 star passage untimed focusing on comprehending the stimulus and getting the questions right

      2. Two 1 to 3 star passages with 15 minutes to complete both. This got me used to doing easier passages of various topics quickly. While this drill started out pretty rough, as I got used to intense time constraints, I stopped freaking out while doing my RC, which improved my timing overall!
