Taking First PT

Apologies if this has been posted before but:

Should we be finding a PT to take before we start any of the lessons as a base? Haven't started any LSAT prep yet and just purchased my package.

For those who couldn't catch it, could you explain what led you to that conclusion? Nervous lol

To clarify:

For the minority student total, is that for all three classes? And in terms of the scholarships, is that only performance-based or does that include need-based as well?

Thank you so much for this list!

What steps did you have to do to be moved? Had similar issues and was unable to take the scheduled exam and had to email LSAC my situation but no word when I’ll hear back.

Taking it to apply next fall! Will be my first time, not 100% where I want to be but have been studying for some time after graduation but funds are running low from focusing on studying and need to go get a full-time job lol. But plan on retaking if necessary sometime in the Spring.

I'm going to take Flex in July. Could anyone share their experience on RC? Can you make hightlighs or marks on the side? Thanks

Highlights similar to the PTs on here. A few color choices, click on one, and then highlight the text as you would if you were to copy and paste a text with your mouse.

Those are the same options available on the actual test if you haven't taken yet, so may be better to practice with those !

Spatial Games Gone?

Apologies if this has been answered before but preparing LG drills and I noticed there have not been any spatial games in an exam since ~PT 35.

Has this been noted by LSAC / is it considered "dead?" Just trying to hone in on games before the test next week and want to make sure I am using my time wisely.

Thanks so much!

I feel like there are a lot of components that this depends on! For example, I work a 9-5. I can't really do PTs until weekends so how much time I can study in 3-4 weeks is less than someone who isn't studying/working full-time.

You definitely aren't going to forget everything you know about logic, diagramming, etc if you take a full month off. But if you struggle with the timing on PTs, it might be useful to gently practice a few PTs before March. Maybe take 2 weeks completely off instead?

Appreciate that. Thank you!

Was anyone able to figure out the logic for JY's question here?

If MV most /V

& GM ----> V

Then how is it that GM most MV?

GM -----> V most MV

GM most MV

Isn't that not a valid inference? :/

How Long of a Break is Too Long?

So I completely had an anxiety attack during my first section of the recent LSAT, and didn't get to the entire last game. I usually go -1/-0, so I know I won't be getting the score I was hoping for -- and want to give myself a bit of a break in studying.

I signed up for the March test as it's the soonest one available, and it's not until the end of that month.

Would waiting until the start of March to dive back in be too long of a gap, or would that be ample time to pick up where I left off? Was a little too all-consumed by the test, so need to take some time off, but I don't want to lose the progress I made.

Thank you

In the same boat -- following this ~

If you come across a MBT, for example, or if you have game boards that are completely filled in, do you automatically move on once you see your answer, or do you still check each AC to be sure?

I have a few times thought I made all the possible GBs, picked the first answer, then saw if I had kept going through the AC's that I would've noticed two possible correct choices, and realized an error.

If we are going for -0, should we trust the game boards and go on for speed, and hope an error hasn't been made, or do you still spend time checking each one?

Thanks so much!!

Those who signed up for the May test -- what were the time slot options like? Were they all weekdays during regular working hours (EST)?

I believe I will be ready to take the July LSAT, but can't take a full Monday off work so I'm planning to take the August test due to the Saturday test date. Wondering if I should reconsider my plans if July is offered after work hours/on a weekend.

To my knowledge, the standard slots are Monday & Tuesday during normal hours, but exceptions can be made I believe if you reach out

Breaking Plateau 2 Weeks Out

I apologize to add to the frantic posts that begin as it nears the exam.

But I am taking my first actual test on the 25th, and I am consistently getting -19 with it pretty evenly spread on every PT I've taken since I finished the CC.

I am drilling every LG every day and hoping to get it down to -1/0 before the exam, but even with slight improvements on each test in LG, I go down in LR/RC.

Obviously cannot predict the future, but, does anyone have any tips 2 weeks out? Or am I better off relaxing(/accepting) at this point given the short amount of time?

Thank you in advance.

RC Application Questions

Hello!

As the January test comes around, I'm starting to get a bit anxious with my RC score. What used to be my strongest section is now my weakest, and I can't tell where I am going wrong.

Looking at the Analytics tab, Application Questions (Purpose of passage & "Consistent Principal) are where I am struggling with the most. Does anyone have any advice tackling this area, or is it just continuing to read & practice generally. Would really appreciate any insight people have gained on this section

Thank you in advance

Can't tell you one way or another & certainly don't endorse breaking the rules ... but I had a major center issue for the Nov test that if I had my phone & was able to get the communication of the new location, I would have sat and not had to wait now until next week to finally take it. But it is explicitly stated not to have the phone on you or in the room

Definitely not a failure with 166 by any means! But I am in a similar boat, so I understand the frustration of not being able to crack 170.

Congrats on -0 LG btw

Crucial Additions to the LG Bundle?

I'm trying to begin the LG foolproofing, and I've seen a bunch of mentions about the LG Bundle. I know it has been taken down, but I have access to the PT's so was thinking of making a custom set to replicate the questions.

However, are there any specific questions / PT's that come later that you all think would be well-worth adding to the first 35 PTs to foolproof? Or should this suffice for now.

Thanks so much!

Thank you to JY and the entire 7sage community.

It's been a tough six months personally, so I am so grateful I got to be where I am now. I didn't know anyone personally in my life at law school or going through the admissions process to turn to, so the advice on here was super helpful -- especially searching back for years-old threads.

Thank you to @Sami for the free tutoring sessions she has offered and for her overall test day advice. I truly think practicing some questions from each section before the exam (as simple as it sounds) was a game changer for me.

The crazy person in me is thinking of trying one more test in August, even though my goal was to just break 170, as money is a huge factor and I don't want to put myself in a position where I am hurt financially by not trying to go up a bit. So if anyone has any input on that (not to be ungrateful for my score), please let me know!

But for now, I am going to try as much as I can to be proud of myself for once and celebrate. Huge congrats to all my fellow test-takers out there who got their score today. There's so much hurting right now in general, so I hope you all give yourself the space to relax and recharge when need be.

I'm not sure how helpful this post has been, but all I can say is, just focus on yourself throughout the entire process. For my first exam, all I did was study for the LSAT. I watched videos before bed, at the gym, and that if I wasn't spending time preparing, that I was just wasting time. But on test day, the pressure I built up was just unhealthy and I couldn't even finish 2 sections. So this time around, I tried to still be as "normal" and calm as possible, put it all in perspective and it made all the difference.

Thank you all for these resources, and for JY committing to making this as affordable as possible for us all and having our best interests in mind always.

I'm curious as to how the calculations could increase one's GPA. I do understand how it can lower it, though.

Mine stayed the same.

I think it could be either classes counting from different institutions that aren't in your UGPA, or from A+. For example, my school offers A+'s, but they still count as 4.0 (same as an A). However, LSAC counts it for higher

Mine went down from a 3.94 to a 3.82 because of two "college" classes they offered in my high school. Obviously still great and don't mean to be ungrateful, but I wish I knew a few classes I took senior year of HS would count toward my GPA for law school before I took them. I lose sleep over it lol :/

Is the July LSAT worth it?

I saw the post regarding the cancellation after the score is submitted option - but upon looking at the comments, many people mentioned how a cancellation is also looked negatively upon.

As someone who just began my entire studying last week, would you recommend still taking the July exam - or is this too soon that the ability it take an exam and cancel after knowing the score (with just a month of studying) is outweighed by continuing to wait until ample studying is completed before a first test is taken for schools to see.

Thank you!!

When to move past LR section

I have completed my LR curriculum and while I feel fairly more prepared and knowledgeable, I for sure have not "mastered" it yet.

Would you all recommend going through this major part of the CC again, or should I continue with the curriculum and dive into LG (and then LR) and then begin the mastering once all is complete?

Thanks!

Understanding Breakdown of Exam

Obviously no incorrect answers is ideal, but I just took my first PT and I was curious about understanding how to see my potential given each section breakdown.

For example, I've heard logic games are something that can be quickly improved upon - but does anyone have insight into LR and RC. For example, is a cold ~75% in RC a good base - or is there typically not much improvement in that section given reading comprehension is something learned for years

In other words, are there any markers for a base in certain scores indicating a range people should (and should not) be aiming for? I guess I just want to be realistic in my expectations of what I should be aiming for, but I don't know what one should expect in terms of improving section by section (as opposed to people generally saying they've improved ~8-10 points overall).

Newer RC Struggle

Wanted to see if anyone had advice on tackling the "newer" RC. I used to average -3/4 for the section, but since I have been taking the more modern exams, I have been getting 7-9 wrong.

With ~2 weeks left till the exam, anyone have any advice they would recommend for adjusting to the harder RC?

Thank you!

Struggling with two parts of RC

Hello! I'm in the home stretch of studying and looking on how I perform on RC sections, the only questions I continue to get wrong are the Main Point q's and analogy questions. Does anyone have any general tips for these two, specifically?

For example on the analogy questions, I often get down to 2 AC's but there is some nuance I miss that leads me to narrow it down but often choose the wrong one. Same for the MP questions.

Sorry if this is vague or often-answered, just been seeing a pattern and I can't seem to shake it
