Tutor or Class?

Hey all. So I love the 7sage community. But. I think I would do better with a human on some LR questions to really understand the reasoning and where I'm going wrong. Sept test showed me I've not fully grasped LR which may have been fine if I hadn't bombed RC. I plan on taking again in June after seeing so many ask, what's the rush in applying? I'm shooting for a 170, which I'm 100% convinced I can achieve if I can blow LR away. Games are a breeze now and RC and I are in couple's counselling, so it's just the two-section doozy I'm dealing with at the moment. Thoughts on enrolling in a class versus getting a great yet affordable tutor? How can I maximize my time? Thanks everyone!

LR Triage

Alright, 7Sagers. I asked for help on LG and got some great advice and improved vastly. Now we have almost two weeks until the Sept LSAT and my LR needs some serious help. I am currently in phase 2 of the process, where I tend to do much better in BR than in timed test conditions. I am currently intensively reviewing the CC and have used the analytics to identify which areas are my most common issues. I tend to eliminate the 3 most obvious wrong answers almost immediately, but then I choose the wrong answer between the 2 left over maybe half the time. Pseudo/Sufficient Assumption, Parallel Method of Reasoning, and some of those higher level analytical questions I struggle with most consistently. Any tips? Support? Suggested therapists???

Yes but it seems to be working right now. What do you bet this happens 2 weeks before every LSAT date hahaha

I identify with this. In some of my darker prep days, I emailed Dillon in a panic and may have casually tried to blackmail him with a promise to write a good review. I sent it and regret instantly washed over me, sent another email saying omgjklol, and he was super chill and graciously didn't mention my attempted manipulation. I will sing 7Sage praise for the rest of my days, and if my score comes back too low, this is the only place I'd want to return to study. Thanks Dillon!

Any other first time LSAT takers just hoping and praying they're not taking the December test??!!!

Um. Yes. That'll be me.

I told myself (as I'm sure countless others have) that I'm just going with this one score. I felt good about my performance immediately after I finished the LSAT but that damn doubt seems to grow a little every day!

Same on all accounts. I have no intention of taking it again, but I kept all my books because at the same time I'm like...... did I actually get the score though?

In all seriousness though, sometimes I think about people who say they don't need to pay for 7Sage because their videos "are on youtube" and I just lauuuuugh and lauuuuuugh because my suite of Kaplan and Powerscore books are basically the light and basic introductions to the first 5 minutes of the 7Sage curriculum. If I have any success with this test it is thanks to the brilliant minds behind this ridiculously affordable and underappreciated program.

Hahaha "Alex Divine". I didn't realize other people weren't doing that after every study session?

Logic Games Improvement

So some of you may have seen a discussion I posted about a week ago saying, "I'm never going to get this so what's our worst case scenario lbr." I got some encouragement from our 7sage community and also my husband and friends - took a day off, and got back to it! The update is I just drilled 5 assorted games in 33 minutes and went -3, but -0 in BR. Considering last week I went -13 on two games in 35 minutes, that is a MAJOR improvement. How did I do it? I allowed myself to go slowly (I know, whattttttt), as slowly as I needed to. I watched the videos and did about 4 or 5 games PER day minimum, all different. I wouldn't say I had an epiphany one day, I'd equate it to more of a slow adjustment to a cold swimming pool. But the point is, it can be done. Diligence, patience, and being kind to yourself - these are so important. I used the test question bank as well as some prep test sections and drilled until one day I used a stopwatch and lo and behold I was clocking in less than 7 minutes per game. You can do it! You will do it! Actually, you HAVE to do it! So don't get discouraged, hold your head high, and you'll live to infer another day. (3 (3(/p)

For Re-Takers

Hey all!

I took Sept 17, and got a decent score. Not the score I want or need. But the dilemma begins: how do you shake the "where do I go from here?" vibe?? I did decently, LR being my weak point, and I'm a very self-driven studier. My issue is that so many study plans are focused on starting from square one. I've done the CC twice, am now working with a tutor, but I sit at my desk and kind of just shuffle from one paper to the next. How do you get back into the groove? Having checked out some tips, I did watch a couple webinars, reviewed some CC, am working through the Trainer as a refresher, but I'm terrified of doing worse and learning the "wrong" way. Ay yai yai, help please!

I blacked out? I had 3 LR. Don't remember many specifics but I voted that it was like other LSATS and that I was well prepared. Some people I tested with already registered for December, I did not feel that way. I felt good. I did feel the logic games were easy - I balked when a girl in my room said she didn't know what 7sage was. "Say what now? How are you here?" Reading comp was on par, there were some funky LR questions but generally speaking it felt pretty standard issue. I tested at Lewis & Clark in Portland,OR and everything went smoothly. I came out of the site and my husband said I was one of the few who didn't look unhinged/suicidal - so....bonus.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice! @ may have called it with the "perfect game board" comment, I ended up diving into a game and only got -1, despite my nearly empty game board. I would say I overthink the inferences, and trick myself into thinking I got it all down. I'm feeling a little "worst case" though because I am scheduled to take the September test, and don't own a printer, so what has been working for others I may just not have the time/resources for. I've just started not writing on my games, and using a clean sheet of paper to draw the boards and answer the questions, so I'm never re-doing a game that's already been marked up. Whatever the case, I will persevere, and appreciate your help so much!

LG Worst Case Scenario

I have been studying since May rigorously and have gone through the whole LG Bible as well as done PTs and have been working through 7Sage's curriculum as well. LG is just not clicking. I keep trying, but it seems every game besides a simple sequencing game (which I still may have -1or -2) I am simply not making the inferences either correctly or quickly enough. Let's just say I never get LG, though I'll keep trying, what's the worst case scenario here? Pick one game on the LSAT, hope I get them all, then just...what...guess on the rest? Do as many inferences as possible and...what...guess on the rest? Pulling my hair out over here. JY's videos make so much sense and I'll think, hey, it's finally happening for me. Then I'll look at a game, work through it, think - that wasn't too bad, bu then I'll get -4 and it took me 15 minutes. Any advice??

This has happened on both of the PT's I have taken so far, scoring almost twice as bad in the first than in the second section consistently.

I just did a timed LR section, and it was supposed to be a fun and light refresher because LR is my best category. I thought, gee, let's take a break from LG and prance in the meadows of LR for a bit. -13 (with BR as well) and questioning my life choices later, I'm reminded that the LSAT is designed to prey on our weaknesses. These do not have to be a particular section or question type. They can be: lack of preparedness, taking a section for granted, not knowing what you don't know, and the stresses of preparing for and taking the exam in the first place. I'm going to try and incorporate some stress-relieving habits as well as continue to practice all the sections as if they require my full attention to try and prevent falling into the classic traps set by the creators of the test. Best of luck!

@

(there was a pressure window-washing thing at my center, but the proctors were super quick in going out to ask them to stop).

We're you testing at Willamette U?? If not, that's two testing centers that had power washing situations ??

@ Definitely don't feel bad about waiting a year! Just wanted to make sure you knew though, that any college level courses you take after obtaining a bachelor's degree will not count towards your law school GPA.

What if I got another Bachelor's degree? Lol, I know, that sounds crazy. But I went to an online university that doesn't have a GPA scale, and it isn't making up for my 15-year-old running start years.

I got a decent score, but 9 points away from my goal. I've decided to keep studying but for the June test, and I'm going to take some college credits to improve my GPA. It sucks that this pushes my start date to 2019, but I think scholarship money and playing it smart and slow will be better in the long run. Anyone else go through this? Pushing back is so devastating on the one hand, but feels right on the other. Ugh.

Finding a Tutor

Hello all! I can't find that list of suggested tutors. I'm looking for either a Portland, OR based tutor, or an online tutor, who focuses on Logical Reasoning and the hard questions. Thanks for any/all help!

Thank you everyone for the insight. Money obviously is a consideration, but I hear what y'all are saying: $1500 for a class or one-on-one tutoring. Should I get started now while I still have time or wait until closer to June, say in February, to start tutoring. Nothing in life has prepared me for LSAT prep. Thanks again for the help!
