@Bushra.A Okay I think I got it.

The phrase innumerable times certainly suggests difficulty or at least failure at some point because they tried more than once.

I guess I was confused about the result of whether those attempts eventually worked or not, but that does not matter because all we need to know is that they were difficult since it took them innumerable attempts regardless of whether those times eventually worked or not.

I understand why the answer choice B is correct, but how did we know that "they failed"? The second premise clearly states that they tried, but how exactly does it imply that they failed?

@Haleh

"If non-members get discount codes regardless of how many videos they rent, then why become a member with stipulations?"

  • it's because we have to work with only the facts presented to us in the stimulus, even if they don't make sense to us in the real world.

"And if we're ASSUMING Pat isn't a member, then we can assume other things too.."

  • We are not assuming that Pat is not a member. The question stimulus simply never stated that Pat is a member.

  • In fact if we think that Pat is a member then here we are making a big assumption because that (Pat being a member) was never stated. We just have to translate the stimulus literally, which is usually not what we do in everyday conversations.

I hope that makes sense. It's a difficult question because it has a VERY SUBTLE trap. I almost fell for it but I took my sweet time (like 7 minutes over) and I was able to catch it eventually

@DDriesman since the argument shows that there are only two ways to be a member, any other possibility is irrelevant to us.
