@Kevin_Lin Hi Kevin!

With just those 2 sentences you replied with, I see the error in my thinking. I really appreciate your response. I also really appreciate all the work you put into this site and the passion of teaching you have. Thank you.

In the problem where it says " Her action was not motivated by self-interest in any way" wouldn't that statement close the circular argument and make the conclusion valid?

It is stated that:

"If an action is performed out of self-interest, then it should not be considered generous"

An action is performed. (She donates money)

The action is then defined in a subsequent premise as:

"Her action was not motivated by self-interest"

1)Self-interested acts aren't generous

2)The act she did was not self-interested

According to premise and conclusion, what she did IS generous.

Is there some ambiguity here im not seeing?

Confirm action

Are you sure?
