Realistic Goal?

Hello,

6ish months ago I took my diagnostic and got a 149. Slowly I made my way through the curriculum and last weekend's PT was a 163, BR was at 173. This has been pretty consistent for me (Only 5 PT in). LR was -5/-6 LG was -3 and RC was -8. I need close to if not a 170 to get into the school I am aiming for. I am pretty confident I can get LG down to -1 or 0, but I don't know how much improvement I can make in LR and RC because when I BR'd it took me anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes per question to arrive at the correct answers for questions I circled. Any strategies for LR and especially RC improvement would be appreciated. Looking to write either February or June of 2016.

Personally I found that some of the older games required less inferences at the start, and then the questions took me a little longer. Totally subjective but it's possible that you are spending too much time making inferences at the beginning of your set up.

What I was told from many admissions reps is that it is nearly impossible to just get "lucky" and get a great score, where as it is common to have an off day or stumble under pressure. So if you have 2 scores, say a 160 and a 168, they will not hesitate to think that the 168 is a true representation of your skills. The scenario changes when you have 2 very close scores, say a 161 and a 163, then admissions may factor in your lower score.

I am a firm believer that the newer games are harder, but many would disagree. There tends to be a dip in scores once you hit PT 60, I attribute this to comparative RC, but nothing really changes. By this I mean if you understand the concepts and logic, and are able to apply them to the early tests, you will be able to do the same for the newer tests as well. Just be prepared for a slight learning curve as you progress through the tests. If the new tests seems "weird" right now, don't get discouraged, once you acclimated to the newer styles you will be just as successful as you were with the older PTs.

I would move to June, taking it in December might hurt your confidence if you end up scoring in the 140's and as others mentioned you are wasting 1 of your 3 attempts. Best of luck studying

You will invariably score less on your PT's compared to your BR scores, so I would not be alarmed by scoring ~10 points less. You definitely can reduce the gap as you continue taking tests. I would really work on your BR process, don't rush through BR and don't be afraid to spend about 10 minutes a question when BR'ing. Don't get discouraged! If you are aiming for a 160 and you can BR in the 160's right now then it is in your grasp! You just need to nail down the concepts that lead you to the right answers when you BR, this way you will be able to apply them during your PT almost subconsciously. Goodluck studying!

Canadians applying to American Law Schools

Hello,

If there is anyone on 7sage that has applied to American law schools as a Canadian student coming from a Canadian university could you please give any insight as to the process. I am mainly interested in the GPA calculations. My GPA calculated by OLSAS is ~3.92 but under LSAC it is around 3.54. Any insight is much appreciated!

Hey rockytoral, after I completed 7 sage curriculum I took 2 timed tests and had little to no improvement, this is not because the course doesn't adequately prepare you but because I rushed through it to get to the prep test stage. After the 2 tests I went back and re-watched a lot of the core curriculum videos and tried to gain a better understanding of the core concepts behind the lsat. After my second time through my score went up 11 points on my next prep test. I also did the entire logic games bundle. Don't be discouraged with the lack of improvement you may just be one of those people, like me, who need more time to absorb material. Hope this helped!

yes, if your planning on using 62-71 eventually then you can use 40-50 to start. The trainer is just suggesting that if you use 10 prep tests to study that it be the most recent ones since they are most indicative of what you will see on the LSAT you take.

I found that I hit a bit of a plateau with LR after using 7 sage. To get to the -2, -3 range I used the LSAT trainer, if you've found that you have gotten as much as you can out of 7 sage I would suggest getting the trainer. Otherwise just do the problem sets and listen to JY's videos, it very well might be enough to get you to your target score for LR

How to get back in study mode??

I spent the entire summer working 50 hour weeks at a law firm and now back at school for my 3rd year of undergrad. I want to get back to studying for the LSAT which I haven't done since May-ish. Somewhat busy now with school and clubs but I do have some time to start studying again. I finished off the complete course in May and now I have to idea where to pick back up, I don't want to start right away with Prep Tests because I feel like I will just ruin my confidence by taking one after being so far removed from the LSAT. Any Suggestions??
