I feel like I am doing these principle problems without relying on lawgic. Is this just because I am working on principle problem set 1 and the problems are just easier? How prevalent is lawgic on principle questions?

This is a classic LSAT Part to Whole comparison. Whenever you see a part of something being used to make assumptions about the whole, keep your eyes peeled for an answer that addresses this.
