I have a question about 7Sage Notification Preferences. As you can see below, I have checked all the boxes, but I never receive emails when people mention/reply to/private message me.
Does anyone receive notifications when you receive replies/private messages on 7Sage?
I do receive emails for my comments in the Curriculum ("Your comment at 7Sage lsat has a new reply" emails).
Hi again,
As with yesterday, I made another parallel (flawed) argument for an LR stimulus I had troubles with. I would appreciate it if you could help out by answering :)
:cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:
Letter to the editor: Your newspaper seems to heavily biased against renewable energy. The study presented in the article "Can We Survive on Renewable Energy?" distorts evidence and shows flawed reasoning. The article states that countries with lower rates of renewable energy had lower average cost of electricity than other countries. However, that will not be the case for long, since the average cost of electricity is increasing in the countries with lower rates of renewable energy. Thus, the evidence actually supports the view that the use of renewable energy should be increased.
The reasoning in the letter writer's argument is flawed in that it
(A) concludes based on evidence from the article it criticizes
(B) fails to take in to account the possibility that using renewable energy is often costly
(C) fails to take in to account the possibility that not everyone wants to use renewable energy
(D) fails to take in to account the possibility that the average cost of electricity in other countries is also increasing
(E) does not show any evidence against the viewpoint in the article
Here is a concept which LSAT sometimes tests:
false positive/false negative
I learned this concept a couple months ago and went:
https://media.giphy.com/media/wWuNgWHR7ZzMI/giphy.gif
Unlike other concepts, I don’t see it often on the LSAT, so I tend to forget about it.
But I see it again and again:
PT11.S2.Q15; PT15.S3.Q21; PT41.S3.Q17; PT45.S1.Q24; PT54.S4.Q20; PT61.S2.Q20; PT80.S1.Q10
So I'm making this post so that I can explain and understand fully!
False positive:
a result that shows something exists when it actually does not exist.
Examples:
・A medical test shows that someone has a disease when the person actually doesn’t.
・A DNA test falsely shows that A’s DNA matches the DNA at a crime scene when it doesn’t actually match.
False negative:
a result that shows something does not exist when it actually exists.
Examples:
・A medical test shows that someone doesn't have a disease when the person actually does.
・A DNA test falsely shows that A’s DNA does not match the DNA at a crime scene when it actually matches.
https://media.giphy.com/media/GSpDlV6BbFTyw/giphy.gif
In order for a test to be good, both the false positive rate and the false negative rate have to be low.
To sum up:
• True positive: correctly identified
• False positive: falsely identified
• True negative: correctly not identified
• False negative: falsely not identified
Actual LSAT questions:
:star: PT11.S2.Q15 Flaw
The computer security system has never incorrectly accepted someone, which means it has never committed a false positive error (falsely identified). The argument concludes that it will give access to the right people.
But what about false negative? In other words, it might not accept people who should be accepted. So this is the flaw.
:star: PT15.S3.Q21 MSS/Misc.
The EEG reading is a reasonably reliable indicator of temporal lobe epilepsy, so false positive rate is low.
But EEG test might not be able to detect abnormal electrical impulses even though the impulses are present (“false negative”). So not being identified doesn’t mean you don’t have temporal lobe epilepsy.
Let me know if there are other examples (other than the ones mentioned above)! :)
Has anyone experienced "Error establishing a database connection" when accessing 7Sage? I am trying access certain parts ("Discussion Forum", "My Comments"), but it says:
I've never experienced these errors before. I emailed Dillon about this, but I want to see if this is a problem on my end....
Wait, Jan 2019 LSAT was a nondisclosed test, so we won't know what the curve is....Why is PowerScore "predicting" something that we can't confirm? 😅

So I just got into my top choice for law school! I quit my job in December and have been relaxing/fooling around since. But I'm starting to get bored and feel unprepared for law school. I have all this time (Feb-August) before everything starts up again this fall and would sincerely appreciate any advice on how I could be utilizing my time wisely!
Thank you in advance!
I'm a 0L too so please take this with a grain of salt. Some say that 0L studying is worthless and we should do nothing and relax. But I personally don't want to learn about
legal concepts for the first time in class and I want to familiarize myself with the basic rules (black-letter law) of each area of law.
So I just started reading A Short & Happy Guide to Contracts (Short & Happy Guides) and I bought other Short & Happy Guides for other first-year subjects on Amazon and they're arriving soon. For Civ Pro, I bought Joseph W. Glannon's Civil Procedure: Examples and Explanations (7th Edition), which everyone seems to recommend (I bought last year so the latest version is 8th). I also bought a cheap used Barbri Conviser Mini Review, which summarizes all of the 1L subjects. And I think I'll do some practice exams after studying with these books.
I'm thinking of reading at least a couple of law school guides so I'm reading Getting To Maybe and recently bought 1L of a Ride.
Hi everyone,
As @Sami did recently, I made an analogous argument for an LR stimulus I had troubles with. But I am not sure if I did correctly, so I would like to hear what you guys think. Let me know which answer choice you think is correct
The playwright’s newest play received a negative review from the city’s most influential newspaper. Therefore, the review will not as positively affect the box office performance in the opening week as would the unpublished review by the other critic, who has been favorable to his previous plays; people who have a negative impression of the play are unlikely to pay the standard ticket price.
The argument relies on which one of the following assumptions?
(A) Most theatergoers who see the play on the will do so because of the review appeared in the city’s most influential newspaper.
(B) The unpublished review by the other critic would not have been negative.
(C) Most people who go to see the play and pay the standard ticket price will not have gone to the play as a result of the review appeared in the city’s most influential newspaper.
(D) If the unpublished review written by the other critic were used instead of the review appeared in the city’s most influential newspaper, almost all of who went to see the play would pay the standard ticket price.
(E) Most people who pay the standard ticket price do not miss a performance of the play in the opening week.

Hello, I had a question concerning PT 41, Section 2 Q13. This is from LG 3. Q13 asks for a complete and accurate list of members that could be in the finance committee and in AC E (which is marked as the correct answer), the options listed are only M,U,W. When we follow the in/out procedure, we find that H is a possible member that can be added to this group (J.Y. even has so in his explanation), so my question is why is this correct then given that this question asks for a complete and accurate list? AC E seems accurate, but is it complete?
Hey @, I think this question is similar to this: https://classic.7sage.com/discussion/#/discussion/10937/pt42-s1-g4-q19-for-the-school-paper
This is from LG 3. Q13 asks for a complete and accurate list of members that could be in the finance committee
That's not what Q13 is asking.
Q13 is asking "Which one of the following could be a complete and accurate list of the members...?" (1)
👉 (E) (Miyauchi, Upchurch, Wharton) could be a complete and accurate list. There is a situation where M, U, and W are in the finance committee and G, H, L, and Z are in the incentives committee.
I believe you thought Q13 was asking "Which one of the following is a complete and accurate list of the members could be...?" (2)
👉 If the question were asking for this, you would have to list every single member that can be in the finance committee.
The difference between (1) and (2) is subtle but actually pretty substantial.

Hi I don't see any posts about the international test, so I thought relevant discussions/questions here.
My specific question is which LG is experimental. The one with the weird product origins game at the end or the one with the pet owner thingy at the end?
Best of luck to all of you!
The international test is usually different in each region. Did you take it in Australia/New Zealand/Asia on Sunday?
YES!
Did your RC topics include diversity of crops/public subsidies for arts/bankruptcy laws/sandstorms and fossils?
From what I gathered online, I believe January 2019 LSAT in Asia was nondisclosed February 2012 LSAT in North America, which was also readministered as September 2017 LSAT in Africa/Europe. So the LG section with pet owner tenants and non pet owners seems to be real.
But I can't confirm since I didn't take the test.

Hi @"Alan Cheuk" and @"Dillon A. Wright",
Would it be possible to see answers for LR questions in PT1-17 in the Question Bank?
I know there are no explanations available, so there are only Discussion buttons. But it would be great if we can see the answers quickly. (I have to go to e-docs to see the answers.)
At 2:00 of his explanation video of PT57.S3.Q18 (https://classic.7sage.com/lsat_explanations/lsat-57-section-3-question-18/ ), J.Y. refers to "the Dramamine question."
I think "the Dramamine question" is PT4.S1.Q4 ("A survey was recently conducted among ferry passengers") but does anyone know if there is a video of his explanation of "the Dramamine question" in the CC of 7Sage?
Or is there another LR question about the effectiveness of treatment of seasickness?
Thank you in advance :)

Hello. I was wondering if I fail to cancel LSAT registration by tonight 11:59pm, the schools will get to KNOW that I withdrew from Jan exam. I want to make a decision tomorrow morning depending on my physical/mental condition....so I don't want to cancel it tonight in case I do want to take the test for the last time.
Yes, they will see that you withdrew from the January LSAT. But I don't think it will be a problem if you have a legitimate reason to withdraw from the test (and it looks like you'll have one if you decide to cancel.)

LSAC said that there would be updated training materials in early 2019, so I'm keeping an eye out for them. I'm excited to be part of a new community experience and I'm glad that I'm taking mine in September when I won't have to wonder which version I'll be walking into!
You can see what it will be like and take the June 2007 LSAT from this page :) : https://familiar.lsac.org/
https://www.lsac.org/lsat/lsat-prep/how-prepare-digital-lsat
That’s why we’ve created a Digital LSAT tutorial—to get you acquainted with the Digital LSAT.
LSAC’s new Digital LSAT tutorial videos will help you get a clear sense of what the experience of taking the Digital LSAT will be like. These tutorials are not practice tests in the usual sense: you can’t score them, and they won’t help you figure out where you need more study. (Our other Prep Tools can help you with that!) But they will show you how to highlight passages, how to undo an answer, how to enlarge the font, and more.
To emulate the Digital LSAT testing experience, use a touch screen tablet to reference the Practice and Try Out sections. The functionality of a PC cannot mirror or replicate the testing experience of using a touch screen tablet. The videos are another method for getting acquainted with the Digital LSAT.
These videos are simply—and crucially—a methodical way for you to actually see and experience, in advance, what the test will actually look like when your Digital LSAT shows up on the screen.
So it seems like we're going to have the July LSAT as well!

UPDATE 2:
It's undisclosed :(
I have a question regarding a logical translation of "derive solely from." This is from the answer choice (D) in PT62.S4.Q15. https://classic.7sage.com/lsat_explanations/lsat-62-section-4-question-15/
This question is an easy PSA question, and the argument is basically like this:
P: A counterfeit doesn't give any less aesthetic pleasure than a real diamond
——–——–
C: A real diamond and a counterfeit are equally valuable
So we need "Pleasurable --> Valuable." And (D) is the only answer choice that says something close:
The value derive solely from the pleasure. (modified version of answer choice (D) in PT62.S4.15)
Is it ok to translate this as "If it is pleasurable, it is valuable"?
Pleasurable --> Valuable
In the video, J.Y. says that D is saying "How much is it worth? The only thing you gotta check is aesthetic pleasure it provides" so I think it is ok to translate as above, but I can also interpret it as:
The value depends on the pleasure.
And I think it would mean:
Valuable --> Pleasurable
Can you help me figure out what derive solely from means?

Hi everyone,
My account is about to expire in a week. I am still working on my apps though so I would still want to access the 7sage Admissions Course that I am currently using. When my account expires, will I still have access to @ 's Admissions Course?

Hi @,
Actually, you currently don't have access to the paid Admissions Course because you only have Premium. (Ultimate+ comes with the access to Admissions Course ($10).)
What you're seeing is free Admissions Course, so you can see it with any account (free account) or even without logging in: https://classic.7sage.com/admissions/progress/

I was advised that I should make a post to practice using "otherwise" as appeared in the stimulus.

I started to enjoy the RC section when I started to enjoy learning from it. And outside knowledge definitely helps when it comes to RC.
I used to think I know about art, but by reading the art LSAT passages, I learned that I have absolutely no idea about art history! My go-to YouTube channel for science is CrashCourse, but I haven't been able to find a good channel for art history (Khan Academy's lessons seemed too detailed....)
Recently I found Art History - Overview Videos from Phil Hansen (21 videos).

I've been wondering this as well. A lot of schools send them out throughout the application cycle, but if you're planning on applying in September or October you might not have them yet, and it's definitely not worth it to wait months to apply just for the possibility of a fee waiver
Yeah last year a handful sent me waivers but it was way to late in the cycle. I’m trying to apply in September.
Last year, I sent emails in the last week of August. A couple of schools responded asking me to get back to them after September, but some schools gave me fee waivers before September 1.
Here's a thread on fee waivers last cycle:
https://classic.7sage.com/discussion/#/discussion/17398/fee-waivers/p1
https://classic.7sage.com/lsat_explanations/lsat-60-section-3-question-10/
I got this one right almost instinctively (I didn't map this out), but I have a question about the phrase "can best be explained if" in the second sentence of the stimulus.
.
.
[Phenomenon] The rate is 450 times/second.
[Theory] The rate of 450 times/second can be best explained if the ring has a radius of 49km.
Assuming that the theory is correct, we can conclude that the ring has a radius of 49km.
.
To diagram [Theory] using Group 1 Translation:
・The ring of gas has a radius of 49km —> The rate of 450 times/second can best be explained
.
But is this correct way to diagram?
.
.
When I read this stimulus, I actually understood it as
・the rate of 450 times/second ---> the ring has a radius of 49km.
・The can ring maintain an orbit so close (49km) to a black hole —> the black hole was spinning
C: the black hole was spinning (Answer Choice (C))
.
.
Is my understanding correct? If so, how should we understand the phrase "can best be explained if"?
Let me know what you guys think :) Any help is appreciated!

You know people always say, “Don’t do anything LSAT related on the day before the test. Relax! Watch a movie or something!”
But what do you watch? You don’t want to watch The Silence of the Lambs, right? Should I watch like @"Daniel.Sieradzki" does? Or Legally Blonde?

(But Legally Blonde makes me feel like, “She gets a 179 after studying for like weeks? F*#k”)
So let me know if there are any inspiring movies that you recommend watching on the day (or two days) before the LSAT!

It's really school by school on how they send those out. To my knowledge, UCI send emails for acceptance, but WL and dings are snail mail. Most schools do email for everything though, and keep an eye on spam folders. That said, this year is just going slooooowwww. I got USC WL about a week ago, and I applied early January. Still haven't heard from UCLA and applied early January. Applied to Berkeley mid-December and no response there yet either. I know others who have been waiting since October with no responses from some schools too. So unfortunately, the answer is to just keep waiting...

I haven't heard from two schools that I applied in early September (although these aren't California schools). I've been waiting for more than 6 months. Lol
Ugh it is so frustrating! I try not to complain because I know there are others who’ve been waiting so much longer. But it’s weird having done this last cycle too. I applied to UCLA a month earlier than I did the year before but am not going to have an answer any earlier. I was looking forward to having more time to make a decision this year but apparently that’s not a thing. 😂
How is your cycle going?? Do you have any offers you’re excited about?
I have some offers with $$$ from T-20 schools and an offer with $$ from a T-14 school. So it's not so bad! But I haven't heard back from 8 schools 😑 (I'm expecting waitlists/rejections at this point though)
@ said:
However, the letter, after saying no, says: "Should you consider attending [the school] in the future, I would encourage you to explore the opportunities available as a transfer student." This struck me as unusual in a rejection letter. Is it? Is it normal for the school to suggest they'd be interested in seeing you re-apply as a transfer?
It's not unusual. It's pretty standard and I think it doesn't mean anything. I've seen it many times last cycle 😅 Did it say "However, we are simply unable to accommodate the large number of applicants who wish to attend [the school]" right before that sentence?
Here are some other examples:
"If [School] remains your first choice, you may wish to consider applying to transfer at the end of your first year in a full-time program at another ABA-approved law school. "
"If [School] remains your first choice you may consider applying to transfer here after your first year."
"If [School] remains your first choice, you may want to consider submitting a transfer application next year."
"Should you decide to begin at another law school this fall, you are welcome to apply to us as a transfer student next year."
"they were impressed with your credentials and encourage you to consider applying as a transfer student in your second year of law school."
"If you decide to enroll at another institution for your first year, we hope that you will consider reapplying as a transfer candidate."
Hey future lawyers,
Don't forget to vote!

I spent fall 2018 on exchange in England for one semester (Sep-Dec 2018) and took three courses. Two were 100% assessed on a 15-page essay. The other one was 30% first essay and 70% final essay.
I just received my grades for the two 100% assessed courses and my grades are TERRIBLE. I've never received marks this low in my LIFE. I'm talking 2:2 and a 3rd class (here is a link to understand what this means: https://www.scholaro.com/pro/Countries/united-kingdom/Grading-System).
I have a 3.87 GPA at my home institution, but since every law school wants transcripts from every institution attended (including study abroad), there's no way to escape sending them. Since I was only in England for one semester, I can't send my international transcripts to LSAC (they require at least 1 year abroad to evaluate them), so they'll just be sent directly to each school I apply to. I have no idea how schools are going to react when they see my exchange grades. There's almost no information about it on admission websites, no matter which school I look at.
I know this is going to hurt me during the admissions process. What do I do? Will the schools reject me because of these grades? Does anyone know what schools do with exchange transcripts? Is there a way I can redeem myself from this?
If I'm not mistaken, your grades at an international institution will not be factored into your cumulative GPA on the CAS transcript report. Foreign transcripts (=non-US/Canada transcripts) are evaluated by the foreign evaluation service and it is a separate evaluation from the academic summary report.
But you might want to call the LSAC to double check!
Yea, I think so. I think it means "than the case in which that person chooses not to walk rather than drive."
"Otherwise" confused me too and I made this post about it a long time ago:

I paused for like three seconds figuring out what it means before realizing that this is a typo.
I think I found another one the other day, but I can't remember which PT it was from.
So please let me know if you find any typos so that @"7Sage Admin" can fix someday...
In the Question Bank and in the LR Drill Sets (https://classic.7sage.com/lesson/lr-drills-preptest-01-to-09/ ), PT8.S4.Q21. is categorized as a Sufficient Assumption question.
But the question stem says "For the claim that.... to be properly drawn on the basis of the evidence cited, which one of the following must be assumed?" so I think this is a Necessary Assumption question. Also, the correct answer (A) is an assumption that is necessary (not sufficient). If this were a SA question, (E) would be correct since it shows a sufficient assumption.
Can everyone confirm that this is mislabeled as a Sufficient Assumption?

"But the material costs of hung juries do not warrant losing the benefit to society of the unanimous verdict."
from the 1st RC passage of PT37
Does this sentence mean, instances of hung juries do not necessarily mean that the unanimous verdict system has no benefit?
Well, I can't read the whole passage now so I don't know the context, but I think it means something like, "Just because there are costs of hung juries, it doesn't mean it's okay for the society to lose the benefits of the unanimous verdict."
I'm guessing it's saying that the unanimity requirement brings bad things like hung juries but there are more benefits! (like fair verdicts?)
(Not literally)

I’m a theater person who doesn’t wish people good luck. And you don’t need luck. You’ve rehearsed this. You know exactly what to do. You are gonna kill this!
Tomorrow is your time to shine!
But remember this is just a test. There’s more to life than this. Don’t freak yourself out. You’re gonna be fine.

does anyone know if there be a Pacaque Predictor for the January LSAT by chance? Mostly just see what they predict the curve will be & what not.
January LSAT is nondisclosed so we can't confirm the predictions even if @ does.

Bumping this 2 year thread. Does anyone know if the KTCOOLS course still available? Does anyone know of a comparable/effective alternative?
I think the sales usually open around March and close as soon as they sell out.....
