Next 6 months study plan

Hi Everyone,

So I have decided to postpone my December test, and postpone applying until next application cycle. I did not feel ready this time,so I am hoping I can take the test in June and feel fully prepared.

I have finished the CC, so I was wondering if any of you have any advice as to how to study for the next 6 months.

I am planning on doing the fullproof method for the LG Bundle (1-35), so I can improve my LG score.

Any other suggestions? Do y'all suggest going through the CC again? I started it back in April of this year. I work a full time job, so that is why it has taken me longer than other people.

Thanks.

Oh my gosh you are in the exact situation I am in! If I wait a year I am going to be 29 too. I have been struggling with the same issues too, but after having a mini panic attack and cry session early this week, I figured that I am going to postpone a year applying. My dad told me that "you shouldn't put a timeline on your dreams", and if waiting a year to start will get me to the law school I want to go to, then it is okay. Everyone is on a different path, and I need to see that.

I was set on starting in Fall 2018 as well, and had told my whole family and close friends, etc. I had already postponed a year before so I could do one more year at my current job, so that is why I was set on starting next fall. However, I took a PT on Monday and I did not do nearly as well as I wanted to.After September, I told myself I was going to study a lot for December, but life happened. I work a full time job, and work picked up and I was also so tired after studying, so I know I still have room to improve.

Monday was one of those awful days, but it made me come to the realization that waiting a year is the right thing, and that when I look back at my life, I doubt graduating law school at 29 instead of 27/28 is not going to be that big of a deal in the future. If anything preparing more and having ample time to get everything down will get me into the law school I want to get into, and will give me opportunities.

After reading a couple of discussion posts on 7sage, the key thing I took away is to take the test when you are ready no matter what age. There are people in all walks of life who go to law school, and after reading the different backgrounds people had it made me feel better.

I know its hard, and like I said I had a mini panic attack on Monday contemplating postponing a year, but in the end I think you and I will be okay and it will be for the best.

Since we are in a similar boat feel free to message me any time.

Best of luck in whatever you decide :) It will all be okay!! and you are not alone

I am interested! After a lot of soul searching I have decided that I need to postpone my LSAT until I feel 100 percent ready. I was really scared about waiting until next application cycle, but I think it might work out better this way so I am 100 percent ready by the time June comes. Looking forward to working with you all!

26, with 3 years of work experience as a Financial Analyst, also a Master's Degree in Finance. Glad to see older people. I thought I would feel out of place with a lot of 22 year olds around.

I will be 26. Starting this fall. Wanted to go last year but retook the test and got a better score. Worked for 3 years full time. It makes me happy to see a lot of different age ranges going to law school :)

GPA and LSAT ranges for Admissions

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question. For my top choices I am above the 25th percentile but below the median for my GPA, would that mean I would need to get an LSAT score in the 75th percentile to be competitive in getting in?

I am aiming for the highest score I can get on the LSAT but figured knowing this would help with trying to see where I should be.

Thank you so much :)

So I am still confused. I graduated in 2016 and am planning on starting in Fall 2019. I took out loans then, would I still be able to be exempt for these changes?

The reason why I am asking if because there will be a 3 year gap in between the time I graduated and when I would start law school.

This honestly makes me so mad.

After cancelling the December test, I have taken a break too and honestly it was what I needed. I am getting back into it too because I really do think law school is what I am meant to do. So welcome back! I am in your shoes and we got this!

Studying for the LSAT while working full time

Does anyone have any advice on staying motivated while working full time. I try to do 3-4 hours every day after work, but some days I am just so exhausted.

I started studying in March, and was planning on taking in June, but I pushed it back to September because I didn't feel ready.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Digital LSAT

So I just got back my January score and I am feeling very defeated and dissapointed. I’m not giving up though. I am trying to decide if I should sign up for June of July. I know July gives you your score instantly I am just worried about the digital tests I know they give you scratch paper for LG. Will they be giving scratch paper for LR? I know it is highly based on logic so I like writing next to the statements. That is just my one worry.

I know at University of Houston and SMU if you are in the top 15 percent majority of people go into Big Law and make 6 figures. You are stuck to Houston or Dallas though, which is fine if you are from Texas, so it is possible.

Well I am sure you will say it does not matter, but if you don't have anything on your resume for an extended period of time, it looks bad. I get studying is important, but I can be sure that the admissions people would take a 170 over a 175 if that person has had work experience and has done well in it. Also, I have a background in finance right now, and I want to get into M&A law. I believe my work experience will end up helping me with interviews in the future because not only will I understand the numbers, but also the law. Obviously I still have to get a good LSAT score and do well in law school, but work experience is important. Look at Northwestern for example. The majority (70 percent) of their students have work experience. And northwestern is a T14.

LG Timing

How did y'all get better with timing with LG? I usually get a perfect score when I do games untimed, but I crack under pressure and miss a few just because I don't have enough time to get to them.

I am currently fullproofing games to help with this, but I was wondering if any of you had any strategies or tips to get better at timing.

I am taking the December test.

I think it depends on where you want to end up. I know in Houston and in Dallas you can still get big law if you are in the top 10-15 percent of UH/SMU/Baylor Law which are in the top 50 law schools. UT wasn't top 14 in the past, and they placed A LOT of people in big law in Houston and Dallas. If you can get into a T-14 school it is a no brainer that you should definitely go because the experiences and prestige are worth it. If you can't get in I wouldn't get too down because you can still get into the job you want if you go to a law school in the right region and get good grades.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Alyssa and I am 24 (turning 25 in May). I have been on this LSAT journey for about a year now, and it has been an interesting experience to say the least. My original goal was to take the test last June, have my apps in my September, and start law school this fall. Life doesn't always go as planned, That obviously did not happen so here we are. Naive me thought that I would be able to balance studying and having a full time job, but it has been a lot harder than I thought. My goal now is to take the test in June/July and apply for Fall 2019 (fingers crossed)

I graduated with my MS in Finance and BBA in Accounting in 2016 and work as a Financial Analyst. The hours tend to be really unpredictable so trying to get a routine schedule of studying has been difficult. I think I have a good plan ahead though. I really do like my job, but law is where I want to be. I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was very young, so I am hoping to make my dream come true. In college I originally started off as a poli sci major and hated it, I then decided to switch to business because I thought I could at least get a job out of undergrad if law school did not work out. I ended up taking an accounting class and doing well in it so I got into accounting. My professor then convinced me to do a 5 year masters program, so I stayed an extra year. I then decided I should work a year after being in school 5 years, but here we are still wanting to do law school. Sometimes I do wish I would have gone to law school right out of school, but I am hoping my work experience will somehow end up helping me in the end.

I really do want to say I love 7sage and this supportive community. Last December I had a mini panic attack after realizing that I was going to delay applying a cycle (and ruin my life plan, yes I over reacted), but it was nice seeing so many stories of people dealing with the same and getting accepted into their dream school after taking their time to truly study for the test. It has also been nice connecting with others who are a few years out of school who still have a dream of going to law school. Age is just a number right?

I am looking forward to talking/meeting you all in possible study group call in sessions.

Best of luck on your studies :)

Waitlist

So I recently got waitlisted at my top choice. I guess it is better than a no!

I just had a quick question, will the schools ever tell you that you are rejected, or is it just assumed when the first day starts?

I am fine with going to my second choice, I just feel nervous about signing a lease and trying to figure out everything about moving to a new city with the potential of being taken off the waitlist for my first choice.

Thanks,

Alyssa
