To whoever wants to continue with this thread (if anyone does):

I'm thinking about writing an addendum explaining why I have a low undergrad GPA. I don't really want to go into specifics, but I lived under extreme circumstances for two years while attending college. I was planning on not mentioning that in my personal statement, because there are other things I want to focus on in my essay (namely how I examine everything differently because I had to learn how to deal with others misjudging my intellect [I'm physically disabled]).

Should I rethink not mentioning those extreme circumstances in my essay?

I realize it could be difficult to answer my question without knowing the specifics of the situation, but I'm wondering if anyone wants to give general advice to those of us who are afraid they will end up writing a 'sob story.'

FYI: I apologize if I'm disobeying etiquette in reviving this thread, but I guess it might be helpful if some of us continue to discuss questions they think many others may or may not have.

FYI #2: this is Ashleyisbadname; I changed my name.

When I was taking the test, I read over A and B, and I thought both made sense. I then kind of just skimmed the rest of the answers, because I figured I wouldn't be able to answer it correctly. I may not have done that if the correct answer wasn't right after the trap answer. Interesting.

How could a lawyer be sued for writing-in that line? If that line wasn't caught, why wouldn't the client just be out of luck ?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

When I was going through the curriculum, I found the Hitchcock/Fellini/Kurosowa game easier than the grouping one with three classes that comes just before that one, but I'm odd.

I cannot write, so I obtained permission to bring my iPad, so I can type out all my diagrams. Perhaps some of the harder games seem easier because my brain gets overwhelmed when I need to create so many diagrams (I type slowly, too).

I didn't do it at first, but I was kind of going through the curriculum again, and I think you could benefit from seeing what he underlines. I probably will not underline exactly like he does, but he places emphasis on certain parts of the passage, and I think I will be able to do similar when I annotate on the test.

I also think you'll be able to see there are so many trap answers. It's incredible.

I would give yourself as much time as you need, and then keep cutting down the time you give yourself.

I also was going to start reading with these speed-reading iPad apps called 'Acceleread' and 'Outreader, but I wasn't working on RC for a month. Big mistake. I took a whole PT last week, and I noticed I got 14 questions wrong. A month ago, I was at about eight wrong. I'm probably just odd, but after doing a RC section every day for about two weeks, I went from getting like 12-14 wrong to six wrong. And I was reading faster at the end of those two weeks.

I'm probably going to be using those apps soon.

Ah. I wish, but my brain stays slow the next day, even though I don't drink much when I do.

A part of me feels like I should know when I need a break from studying, but I feel as if I want to push myself. I need more endurance, but I guess I need to work on that over time. And I need to BR more efficiently. That will start the next time I PT.

@ I was playing sudoku multiple times a day until I decided to devote my life to conquering the LGs. I'm now not as good as sudoku, but at least I'm a lot better at LG. yay me.

I'm just recovering from a burn-out. My score once fell 12 points from my highest score. Fun fun!

I'm a LGBTQ candidate, too. Would it be a bad idea to discuss the idea of self-acceptance? I belong to other minority groups, and and I examine the world differently because of how I grew up.

I know schools want diversity, and the LSAC has a series of videos on 'coming out' on the app. The applicants featured in the videos mentioned desires to practice LGBT law. Though some said they mentioned their 'coming out story' in their ps, no one really said anything about self-acceptance. I could see a more conservative reader being okay with an applicant discussing a desire to practice LGBT law, but I wonder if they would be put-off by an essay that countered their morals.

I don't intend to focus on just that in my PS, but I wonder if I should mention this at all.

Ah. Okay. But will you still be offering editing services after that date? (Of course, I know it won't be free).

@.busis I saw you posted a similar thread about a month ago. Do you routinely ask for essays every so often? I am still revising my PS on my own, and I do not want to reveal it to anyone until I think it's decent.

Thanks everyone!

I didn't think about checking my local library, so I'll try that. Unfortunately, my local library's database is inadequate, compared to my alma mater's, which I was cut off from the second I graduated. Finding out I was cut off made me want to punch a wall. I'm a hopeless nerd!

Supplemental Reading for Science Passages

Can anyone recommend any sources I can read to help increase my comprehension for science RC passages?

I see people recommend Scientific American, but it's not free.

I also see people recommend SciCentral, but the site just links to a bunch of scientific journals. Am I just to assume the majority of the journals provide articles similar enough to the LSAT science passages, or. . . ?

@ Yes, I'm using old PT sections. I'm signed up for the Ultimate plan, and I'm just using the sections from tests 1-35.

Today, I posted a question in the RC subforum. I took PT 37 yesterday and I noticed I did well on the first three RC passages. I noted how the score contrasted with how I was doing when I was doing individual sections. @ told me my method of charting my own improvement might not be totally accurate.

I think doing sections may be good for some people, but I should re-empathize I'm no expert.

Huge Jump on RC Section . . . Help!

So, I took my third PT today, PT 37, and it seemed like I was doing well with RC, until I got to the last passage. This passage was too difficult, so I kind of ended up guessing on those last few questions.

When I finally scored my test, I saw I only got six questions wrong. That's a good score for me anyways, but four of those six questions were on the last passage.

Is it possible I just was lucky with those first three passages? I have gotten that few wrong in the past, but the questions I got wrong were more scattered throughout the section.

Let me preface this: I regret not finishing the core curriculum before I started PTing/doing whole sections. However, I guess hearing my story may help:

I basically began doing like 1 LR and 1 RC section a day before I finished the curriculum. Within 2 weeks, I saw improvement; I went from getting like 12 wrong on both the LR and RC sections, to getting like 8 wrong. I've improved since then, and I think I'll be able to improve more by October.

By no means do I recommend skimping on the curriculum. Nor am I saying everyone can improve the same way I did. In fact, I think I'm just odd. But maybe you'll see yourself improve after you practice more.
