Hi All,

I wanted to start a discussion for those who currently live in the SF Bay Area/Silicon Valley. Those who have plans/dreams to attend law school in the SF Bay/Silicon Valley are welcome to join too! #NorCal

I’m curious to see out of those who currently live in the Bay Area, if you plan to attend a local law school or venture on to a new locale. I currently live in the heart of Silicon Valley and will be applying to some of the local law schools, as well as some out of the area/state.

Local Bay Area Schools: Santa Clara Law, Stanford, Berkeley, UC Hastings, Golden Gate, and USF.

Please feel free to share your thoughts. Looking forward to connecting!

Haha! I asked about what they're looking for in an applicant but we mainly discussed the law school and its various programs. I asked about clinics, internships, student diversity, clubs, the atmosphere, etc. I mainly focused on law school-specific questions. Just be yourself!

I’m weirdly nervous like this is an interview lol. What else did you do on your visit? I’m going to sit in on a class for sure

I've noticed that they don't ask too many questions of you, but rather expect you to be prepared with questions.

Woooof you are right and that was awkward. I am great at interviews but I have never interviewed someone which is essentially what was expected of me. I wasn’t told who I would be meeting with and I ended up meeting with someone with a really high up position...which I didn’t know until the end of the meeting...and I was like wow shit I so did not present myself as intelligent and articulate and passionate about the school. I didn’t have a prepared set of questions bc I thought that it would be more conversational and interactive like I would ask a couple questions and we would end up chatting. I thought upon sitting down it would be like hi how are you how is your visit but it was immediately “what are your questions.” I ended up just blasting them w a ton of random questions bc I couldn’t really get them to open up and a lot of the answers were just “it depends...”

The applicant who had an appointment before me actually walked out of the meeting 10 minutes early...looking pale faced and spooked as hell... I’m glad I managed to keep the convo going past my allotted 20 min at least...

I was really excited to sit in on this class with this professor who I am a huge fan of especially since they emailed that they would talk to me after class. they ended up not having time to talk and I just got like a 2 minute convo during the class break. Loved the lecture tho.

Meeting with a couple students was a highlight it was awesome that club leaders took an hour+ out of their day to chat with me and show me around. I learned a lot from them.

Haha wow, sounds like you had fun! I’m sure you did great though — sometimes we are our own worst critics. ;) You could also write a “thank you” email to the advisor :) Now you know for any future visits to other schools. Love the “it depends” responses - hilariously law school! Great that you were able to connect with students and sit in on a class, I think that is really important and gives you a taste for the school. Wish you the best!

Haha yeah, I mainly focused on law school-specific questions which shows interest. I've noticed that they don't ask too many questions of you, but rather expect you to be prepared with questions. I went on a tour and sat in on a class plus checked out the law library. You can also inquire about any upcoming events they might have. Sometimes they have events during the year like open house, etc., that are open to the public. Have fun! :)

I love reading all these responses! "Whatever you are, be a good one." - Abraham Lincoln.

I have answers to a few of your questions below. Also, 7Sage has a fantastic "Admissions" section (run by @) that costs only $10. I highly recommend it! I'm currently poring over it as I write my various essays. Most of your questions are answered in the Admissions course.

I think hours/weeks are for volunteer work, not necessarily for full- or part-time jobs

Some schools specifically ask for high school and you'll see it as an option under the drop-down menu. Others only state "Undergrad, Grad, and Law" (no mention of HS) under the Education drop-down menu. So, this differs by school.

7Sage Admissions course goes over this in detail

You should re-type your full SSN in the box

I am by no means an expert on this subject so others can chime in!

I know the predicted release date according to LSAC is the 28th, but are there any dates out there that are predicted by 7sage or powerscore that are different?

Official release date is 9/29 according to LSAC. It seems like they stick to their dates usually.

Best to wear business casual. I would bring your resume/folder just in case. A folder is good because you'll be picking up a lot of printed materials and need a place to store them. I went to the LSAC forum last year and it was super helpful. I especially loved the panel discussions with attorneys who spoke about their law school experience. Almost all the tables gave out fee waivers so it's good to ask for one after you've asked your questions.

From a criminal justice perspective, I love Colombo with Peter Falk. Such a classic! Witty detective who always catches the criminal at the end. He isn’t a lawyer but he uses superb deduction and logic to link the criminal to the crime. Helps you think outside the box like a detective, or lawyer, needs to do.

Is this webinar similar to the Admissions Webinar earlier this summer? Learned a lot with that one.

I love all the Ted-Ed videos -- and the riddles too! So easy to watch with their snazzy animations! Thanks for sharing.

If you have a gap of longer than, say, 6 months, it's not a bad idea to explain it. You could add a bullet to your résumé's personal section to note, for example, that you were helping to take care of someone in your family, or you could write a short addendum.

Without knowing more about your situation, it's hard to say how you can explain it without making it look like an excuse, but I can say that if it's legitimate, I think your sincerity will come across.

To add to this question, do we need to include an addendum if we took 6 months off work to study for the LSAT? Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh my, this made my morning! It's definitely a transition but feels so good. An "LSAT-shaped hole in your heart" LOL -- time to fill it with admissions stuff!

And yes, you will love...you will love your free time once again before starting law school.

Hi all! Does anybody remember having the high fat diet and domestic iron mining questions?

My two cents: felt like this test was easier than July. LR seemed especially easier. LG didn’t have any weird setups but I agree with others that they were time consuming.

Happy to be done!

Yes, I had the fat and diet and iron mining thing. I had two LG sections.

I agree, RC was tough for me, and it was my first section. LG was pretty easy except for the first game which has one odd rule. LRs seemed relatively easy; although, I’m sure I may have misjudged a bunch. Lol

Cool, thanks for confirming on your end. Yeah, LR felt like my strong suit this time around. Hope you get the score you want!

Yes I had both of those questions (experimental RC). and Yes! I totally agree with you- I didn't take July, but I felt that LG was very time consuming- I usually finish the section in under 20-25 minutes, and it took me the whole 35 minutes!

Thanks for confirming it was experimental. Can't wait to get the score in 3 weeks! Hope you get the score you want too.

I think everyone has their personal reasons. For me, I took the July test to see where I stand in prep for the main day (today’s exam). I was able to see what test day was like, feel the anxiety, hear the instructions, etc. It seemed to make today that much easier to handle. Certainly, everyone is different but this helped me in particular.

I wasn’t a beta user but have used Khan Academy for the past couple months. I certainly have noticed an improvement on LR with it and I use it in conjunction with 7Sage for max exposure. I also have watched some of their RC vids, mainly on comparative passages. I didn’t watch their vids on LG though. It helped to drive home the LR basics and was a good complement to the CC.

Always have wanted to try poutine! I went to the beach after and soaked in the ocean air. It is “defrag time” now!

Nothing wild — a couple over easy eggs, toast, banana and milk. Maybe a spoonful of peanut butter for some sugar and energy. Keeping my regular routine for the most part. For the break, I’m bringing water and a Luna bar. Something fast to munch! There was a vending machine at the last testing site and no one was buying anything from it (who knows why). I beelined it and got some fruit snacks for a sugar boost. So, keep an eye out for vending machines and bring some dollars!

Today:

15 mile bike ride

1 LR section untimed

1 RC passage

2 LGs

Fortifying the wine from this year's harvest, opening game of NFL and some rounds of pool and beer.

Tomorrow:

Quick mile run

3 hour drive to the mountains close to the LSAT test center

10 mile hike to clear my mind

1 LR section, 1 RC passage, and two LGs at campsite

Camping under the stars for a great night's sleep on a cold night. It will be another hour drive to the test center in the morning but that's fine with me! Should be fun going into the test center smelling like campfire.

Sounds like a fun time! S'mores time

Taking it easy too!

-Reviewing LR basics in the CC

-Working through a couple RC passages

-Watching Tomb Raider (the original)

Never give in!

Very nice! Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the Angelina Jolie one right?

I know they have a new actress playing as Lara now...sorry haven't been keeping up.

Infact, I might join you!

Yes, the Angelina Jolie one with her real-life dad Jon Voight in it too! One of the benefits of having an older brother is he can teach you how to play video games. Tomb Raider has always been one of my favs! Enjoy the movie too :)

For the July test, I saw that a lot of people had the watch propped up in front of them. I thought that was a pretty novel idea so I started doing it for PTs and it has dramatically helped. Who knew something so simple could be so helpful? Gone are the days of me glancing down at my wrist while wasting away the seconds...
