@roystanator440 First take was June 2015, then June 2017 and September 2017

I first started studying with 7sage back during my junior year of college. Fast forward 2 retakes and 3 months of law school applications later, I'm almost done with my cycle and I've gotten into UMich, UCLA, UT Austin, UMN and WUSTL - all with scholarships. I'm still waiting to hear back from a few schools but barring some incredible stroke of luck, I will be attending UMich and I could not be happier. 7sage increased my score from 162 to 168 and finally to 172 (my cold diagnostic was 150). JY's videos gave me the best LSAT foundation I could possibly have asked for and I'm so happy I found 7sage at the very start of my LSAT journey and didn't waste valuable time and energy elsewhere.

Good luck to everyone studying right now - know that you've made the best decision possible in choosing this amazing course and community (3(/p)

Letting schools know about December LSAT

Hey guys,

I'm sending in all my applications this week but am retaking in Dec. hoping for a 2-3 pt increase. I'm sitting at a high enough score now that I'd like to have most of the schools go ahead and review my app without waiting for Dec. But many of the apps for those schools ask you to list all your scores, including future ones. I don't want those schools to know I'm taking it again because I'm afraid it'll send the wrong message (I'm already at 172 and retaking again when I'm already above the 75th for most of those schools will make it seem like I'm aiming for HYS etc.) and it'll increase the possibility of them rejecting me due to yield protection. But if I don't list the December test...would that be shady?

Do you mind if I ask how long it took you to get that score

@mrosa1210177 Of course - I studied for a year and went from 161 to 172 but I think it can definitely be done in a shorter period of time...I was working full time and living in a foreign country when I was studying :)

With a 3.5 and a 172, that will get you into probably almost all of the bottom half of the T14, with a solid shot at all non-HYS schools. Even with a 175, you still wouldn't have a great chance at HYS, and it wouldn't significantly change your chances at the rest of the T-14.

@dantlee14842 Do you really think so?? I've been so stressed out about apps that I've started to have doubts about whether I'll get into any of the T14s...

I got a 172 in September and have a 3.49 lsac gpa with a stem major. I'm applying this cycle and planning on blanketing T14. I'm trying to decide whether or not to retake in December and try to get a slightly higher score to mitigate low gpa...but I don't know if it's worth it. I wouldn't be able to complete my application until scores are released in January and I don't know if a few points increase would significantly increase my admission chances or if that's worth the later app submission. If I don't retake, I would submit all my apps by Thanksgiving. What do you guys think?

I would apply now and retake it anyway. If you are looking for a 170+ retake success story, I got a 172 in February and retook in September for a 180 after 3 months of study. I'm finishing applications now and am glad that I have done everything possible to boost my chances.

The 172 should probably let you stave off rejection at almost all schools until at least January if you apply now. After that they see the retake. If it's higher, that's great and could help. If it's not, you don't lose anything since they look at the highest score. If you don't improve in December, a higher LSAT score in February can help with getting off waitlists and negotiating scholarships as well.

Lock in the gains from a relatively early application by applying as soon as you can get your applications in (with well written essays and letters of rec). After that retake it a time or two. Other than the cost of the LSAT which is a pittance next to law school tuition, you are playing with house money.

Good luck with your applications and your retake(s)!

Edit:

You might want to hold off on Harvard and Yale until after your retake(or inform them you are retaking). They might reject you before your retake with a below median GPA and LSAT. Your chances are better(though it's still Harvard and Yale son not great) once you become a splitter by getting your lsat above their median.

@samanthaashley92715 Thanks for the advice, it's amazing that you got a 180. I might just do what you said and apply asap and see where I'm at with studying come December. The thing is, I've already taken the lsat 3 times...I know schools besides Yale aren't supposed to care but I feel kind of awkward taking it a 4th or even 5th time. I've also been slacking on studying because I've been so busy with writing PS and supplemental essays. If I were to submit now, should I tell all schools to hold off on reviewing my app until December scores come out or just H/S? To be honest, I'm applying to both just for kicks, I don't have any hopes of actually getting in. NYU is my dream school.

Letter of Recommendation

I went to a big research university and all of my lectures were 200+ people. I didn't get to know my professors really well but did get to know two professors at the university with whom I did research with (not as a job but just because I was interested in their fields). But since they didn't actually teach me directly (as in a class), is it still ok to count their letters as "academic"?

Preptests most similar to recent LSATs

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of studying for the June LSAT and am currently taking the preptests...which PTs do you think are most similar to the LSAT as it currently stands? I'm only in the PT 40's but am thinking of jumping to the more recent PT's to better prep for the real thing as I'm not going to have enough time to do all of them. Where should I start?

PT42.S1.G4 (Q19) - for the school paper

Can someone explain to me this stimulus? It says "Which one of the following could be an accurate and complete list of the students who review only Sunset?" Usually, the "complete and accurate" stimuli want a list of all the items across all possible worlds that fulfill the requirement. However, in this problem, they are apparently only asking for the students in 1 world. So answer C says J and L, which would be true if you looked at all possible worlds (ie J can review only S in one world whereas L can't, and L can review only S in another world where J can't). However, the correct answer is A, which says only L. Answer A thus only applies to 2 of the 3 possible worlds. I don't understand how the stimulus specifies this. It reads exactly the same as stimului from other games that are asking across all possible worlds.

There are 2 ways this argument could have been strengthened - 1. by filling in the gap of "why does the shift from multiyear projects to short term projects constitiute not good research?" and 2. by filling in the gap of "why do short-term projects maximize citation counts relative to multi-year projects?" The correct answer choice chose to answer #2.

Spent forever trying to figure out the logic behind this question but finally came up with an analogy that clarifies it for me: Being born an heir in a rich family will ensure that you are rich. However, trying to be born an heir is obviously not the most effective way to become rich. In fact, it's rather impossible to be born an heir if you're already alive and not (lol). But that doesn't mean you're not acting in a way that will most likely make you rich. For example, you can go to a top law school and get a great job. Or you could try to win the lottery. Therefore, the method that will ensure a consequence is not necessarily the method most likely to obtain that consequence. BAM.

I didn't read this question carefully enough because I immediately gravitated towards the reasoning behind C even before I had looked at the answer choices. The argument concludes that 1984 influenced "a great number" of the magazine's readers but obviously as JY said, if the number of people who read the magazine are in the millions and they only asked 1000 people, regardless of how many of those people did or did not choose 1984, it can't constitute "a great number." I definitely see how B is also an obvious answer but how do you choose between 2 presumptions?

Isn't D more of a necessary assumption? If the data isn't correct, the argument just can't exist...right? Because if the data isn't correct, then we don't know whether Moderate Exercise --> decreased blood cholesterol and without this premise, there is no argument.

Hard Reading Comprehension Problem Set 1

I have the "use old problem sets" checked in my settings because I was in the middle of finishing up this section but I came back today and it's gone, and many new sets in other sections that I assume are part of the change have appeared. Is there anyway to look at the answers for this section? Also, if I've done every part of the preceding sections up until this change, do I have to go back and do the new sets that have appeared? Or do they mostly contain the same questions as the old sets?

The analogy helped so much, thank you! One point I'm still confused about - you said in your last paragraph that answer choice A says EW --> /ID or the contrapositive ID--->/EW but it's actually /EW ---> ID or /ID--->EW.

Given this, I understand that /ID-->EW is a contradiction because given premise /ID, it must be /EW, not EW. But can you explain how the contrapositive /EW --> ID is a contradiction?

I still don't understand how D is wrong. I can see why /EW-->PC is not a contradiction to EW-->PC. You've failed the sufficient condition so it doesn't apply. However, when you take the contrapositive and it becomes /PC-->EW, isn't this now a direct contradiction of /PC--->/EW? Isn't this the same concept that's being applied for A?

I have the same question. You could just as easily ask "why should an employer engage the employee in a nonthreatening dialogue etc. etc.?" "Because then, the ideas employers want to try will be implemented more quickly and effectively." I don't really understand why the premise and conclusion aren't switched around?

Correlation relationships are not conditional. Are causation relationships conditional? For example if we say Inadequate prenatal care causes low birth weight babies, can we say that if you have a low birth weight baby, you must have had inadequate prenatal care? We can't, because there could be other reasons, prenatal care being just one cause, right?

2 Logical Reasoning Sections

I took the June LSAT and got -3 on one logical reasoning section and -6 on the other. Do these two sections have the same problem types? I just wonder why one was -3 and one was -6, pretty big jump. If not, what makes them different, so I can focus on improving one section?

Congrats @7sagestudentservices !! I guess we're not always the best at predicting what score we got based on how we felt the exam went - I felt the same way and got a pretty decent score. Quick question - how do you find out your section by section scores? Is it on the lsac website somewhere?

@iles18154.18 Mine is at my uni as well but there's a billion rooms in that building haha so I'm not really sure. It's good that you know though!

Glad I'm not the only one, thought there was something wrong with my ticket :) I guess I'll just get there early and figure it out. Can we print out the admissions ticket today even though the room number isn't on it?

Room Number on Admissions Ticket?

I've been checking my admissions ticket regularly and even today, it still only gives me the building name and says "Room #'s Posted on Test Day" So I have to wait until the day of the test to even know what room I'm going to be in? Talk about stressful. Are all the test centers like this?
