I think this just comes naturally with practice, practice, and more practice. When I was first starting out the timing really stressed me out (and still does but not as much) and I found myself focusing too much on the time rather than applying the tools I have to get me to the right answer. What I have found incredibly useful is creating a quizlet with the basics you need to know forwards and backwards about question types (what certain words imply, tricks the test writers use, etc) and using the quizlet when I am watching tv, walking on the treadmill, whatever it may be. I have found that having all of the basic, yet super super important, "LR Basics" ingrained in your brain allows you to think a bit more critically about what is actually being discussed in the little blurbs and the skills you need to work it out just naturally flow from your brain.
