Helps a bit, but couldn't the readers' response by potentially not reading the magazine or being "suspect" of its integrity also classify under "the readers' response to ads"? The way I see it, the readers are still "responding to advertisements they see in the magazine" via finding it "suspect," not reading it, etc.
