I am a little confused as to how the contrapositive of "not well designed-> uncomfortable" leads to that it must be true that "well designed->comfortable", how must this be true?
It seems to me that it is sufficient but not necessary that a place is comfortable solely because it is well-designed.
if we use the dog and mammal example, then if you are a dog, you must be a mammal. But if you are a mammal you do not have to be a dog because being a dog is not the only determining factor to being a mammal, some mammals are not dogs.
For this question, it may be that if a place is not well-designed then it is uncomfortable. But for the contrapositive, how is design necessary/will guarantee comfort? Just like the dog/mammal example, there could be other factors that determine the comfort of a public space. So a public place is not guaranteed to be comfortable solely because of design.
I am confused on the last conditional, as to how an increase in business profit leads to a decrease in traffic congestion.
Isn't it the other way around?
The stimulus says there will not be an increase in downtown business profits unless traffic congestion decreases. Doesn't that mean that an increase in profits is reliant/dependent on the traffic congestion?
I am a little confused here because I was able to find the main conclusion: "… but this theory may be wrong." The main conclusion is that the theory about longer life-span being the cause of more women having Alzheimer's than men is wrong. However, none of the answer choices reflected this.
The correct answer is A "decrease in estrogen, rather than longer life span, may explain the higher occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease in women relative to men". But isn't the decrease in estrogen premise and not main conclusion? Because in order to prove that the theory of longer life span is wrong, the stimulus says that a decrease in estrogen is the cause. It acts as support because as previous lessons stated, if its true that a decrease in estrogen is the actual cause, than it's true that it may be wrong that a longer lifespan is the cause.
As stated in the answer explanation, the main conclusion is that the "theory of longer lifespan may be wrong", not "a decrease in estrogen may explain higher occurrences of Alzheimer's in women." The latter seems to be premise for the former.
