I'm right there with both of you! Gave myself the two-week break to relax and recover.

How do I chose?

I'm planning to apply to a merit scholarship ED program, but I'm torn between BU and GW.

Here's the deal: I'm currently planning to pursue some type of criminal or national security law (either at the DA, US Attorney, or other federal law enforcement agency like FBI or NSA.) I'm drawn to GW, just because the location will afford me to be closer to lots of national agencies and make more connections. Additionally, they have a national security law specialty, which is rare at most other schools.

However, I've heard some negative feedback about GW and am also slightly deterred by the huge class size. Additionally, I'm worried about making a decision based solely on location because there's a chance I won't end up pursuing this type of law.

As for BU, I've read that they attract some really renowned professors and scholars, which is very appealing. Also, the class size is much smaller and it is still located in a large city, which will afford me some connections.

I really want to apply to one of the merit scholarship ED programs and I do feel like I can confidently choose one of these schools, especially with some additional insight for all of you. Thoughts?

Did anyone for the July 12th Flex get an email about making a ProctorU account? I just checked and I never did.

@ thanks so much for all the info! But in terms of actually downloading ProctorU and creating an account: when do we need to do this by and are there instructions?

Does anyone know if we're going to receive an informational email about downloading ProctorU? Or is this just our responsibility to figure out?

@ That totally makes sense. I do feel like getting towards the top of my class in a lower ranked law school might benefit me more, but I'm not sure. I'm mostly concerned because I just don't think I can break 170; I've been studying full time for four months now, and have definitely seen improvement, but I'm still averaging around 167. That's why I don't think I will make it to a top tier school (like HLS,) unless a miracle happens. What did you end up doing? Where are you at school now?

@ What exactly do you mean about "striking word?" In terms of other schools, I don't think I want to be in NYC again. I loved my time at NYU, but I want to try to experience life in a different location for law school. I've talked to a bunch of people at UVA, and I'm not sure it's a great fit, but I haven't heard much about Washington and Lee. I'll look into it!

Does ranking really matter for me?

This is a bit of a preemptive post, but I've been reading up a lot about choosing a law school and most people advise going to the "best" school you get into. I definitely see how this could be true for those interested in Big Law, but I'm trying to figure out if it applies to me.

I've never, ever been interested in Big Law, so I don't see that changing in law school. My two biggest interests so far have been criminal law (prosecution, most likely) or national security law. I'd really love to end up working for a federal branch (Homeland Security, DOJ, FBI, Pentagon, etc.) I've also had some interest in IP litigation in the past, and if I weren't to go into government work, I think I would really enjoy IP.

Given my interests, the two main schools I'm planning to apply to are Georgetown and GW, simply because of the connections and opportunities being in DC offers. I have a 3.96 GPA from NYU, so I feel confident those schools could be options if I get a decent LSAT score. Of course, this is all contingent on that, but I'm planning to retake as many times as I need to to get a "good" score.

My question is: do you think there's a big difference between the schools? Does the better ranking and prestige of Georgetown matter as much, in this case? It's much more likely that I'll get $$ from GW, while I might have to pay closer to sticker price at Georgetown. I also know Georgetown is much more selective, whereas I feel confident that I could make it to GW given my average PT scores.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

When do I need to take the writing portion?

I took the July LSAT Flex yesterday and am now anxiously awaiting score release in two weeks. I am wondering, does anyone know when we have to take the writing portion by? Can I take it after scores are released? Or do I need to take it sometime in the next two weeks?

How are you able to test your equipment already? I want to make sure my computer will be fast enough, but haven't received any information from LSAC about tech standards or anything.

I am actually thinking about doing this with the August test. I'm currently registered for the July Flex exam and want another chance to test before applying in the fall if I need it. If I'm satisfied with my July scores, I'll just withdraw and lose the registration money. If I'm not satisfied, I'll have another month or so to try to improve more.

I actually just registered for the August Flex myself, with the exact same thought process you have. If my July scores (I'm taking it Tuesday, as well) are good, I will withdraw from August and lose the $200. If they aren't what I was hoping for, I will take again in August (and maybe October, too, if I need to.) It just made me feel a lot "safer" going in to Tuesday, if you will, because I know I will have a second chance sooner rather than later.

Flex materials/mechanical pencils?

Hi everyone! I'm wondering if anyone knows if mechanical (number 2) pencils are allowed for the LSAT flex? I'm taking it Tuesday and want to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible. Also, if there are any other rules/materials that people ran into trouble with so far on the Flex, I would love to know. Thanks in advance!

GW Presidential Merit Scholarship!!!!

I’m still in complete shock but wanted to come here right away to thank everyone for the support, advice, and encouragement! I’ll be attending The George Washington University Law School in 2021 as a Presidential Scholar with a full ride!!!!

I couldn’t have done it without 7Sage and all of you helping me out along the way. If anyone has any questions about the application process or about the program itself, I’d be happy to discuss!

Need advice about August LSAT! Please help!

I'm in desperate need of some advice! I've been studying since around March using a bunch of different resources. My PT scores were all over the place, with a 173 as my highest and a 161 as my lowest. My average was about a 166 and my goal was a 168. I took the July LSAT and scored a 164, which was obviously below my goal but not as bad as it could have been.

The dilemma I'm facing now is if I should retake, and if so, when. I'm currently registered for the August LSAT, but I could always try to postpone to October.

Some more info: my dream schools are GW, Fordham, and BU. Undergrad GPA from NYU was 3.95, graduated summa cum laude. I feel confident I could get into the three schools I listed above with my GPA and current LSAT score, but not sure about significant scholarships. I'm incredibly blessed and won't need to take out loans regardless, but would love to not have to pay full price.

Here's the caveat: I'm having an immensely difficult time finding motivation right now, as my family is facing a lot of external stressors and I can't seem to focus. I haven't really studied at all since receiving my score a week ago, and I'm worried that if I don't put in enough time to study, my score could possibly decrease.

So, the question is: should I risk retaking, and if so, when? Do y'all think there's still a possibility that I could get into one of those schools with a scholarship, even with my lower LSAT score? I would so much appreciate any and all advice cause I am quite overwhelmed right now.

I'm also struggling with level 5 questions, especially LR. I've been trying to do problem sets with only level 5 questions to push myself and challenge myself, but I'm still not getting the success that I want. What have you tried doing so far?

Please help! PT Score Variations

Hi all! I'm registered for the July FLEX test and have been studying for about two months now. I've been through the PowerScore LG Bible Manhattan Prep LR and RC. I've also worked through a bunch of the core curriculum lessons, particularly for areas where I need the most help.

My diagnostic score way back in March was a 154, with my weakest section being LG. I've only taken 7 full tests since then, but I'm panicking a bit because my scores vary pretty significantly. My highest scores have been a 169 + 170, and my lowest scores have been 161 + 162.

For reference, my goal score is a 168. My undergrad GPA is a 3.95, so I'm really hoping to go to a T25 with a pretty significant scholarship.

I'm just stressed because I feel like I understand the LR pretty well, but in the practice test I just took today, I got 10 LR wrong in a single section! Does anyone have any advice? Has this happened with any of you? How can I make sense of this variation in PT scores?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated because I'm started to freak out, especially as the test keeps getting closer.
