I think you are correct. I will probably take a break till Monday... The test was affecting my life in a negative way. I guess it can do that when it means so much to you.

Just have to remind myself slow and steady, results will come.

@.rizeq

I've been feeling so attached to the test. The stress had been weighing me down for the past week or so. Postponing feels like it's taken a huge weight off my shoulders.

@

Thanks for the reply. When you take an old test how do you approach it? If you were in my position would you reccomend going back through the CC and continuing to work through the games of old tests (1-36) as well as the tests I have already completed (37-48)?

Thanks for the reply. It was a tough decision but I know I won't be ready. This test has a rough way of letting you know. I'm thinking going back through the CC emphasizing areas of weakness that have been illuminated by the analytics system. Anything else you would suggest?

Postponing - How much damage did I do?

Long story short, I started studying May 16th for the September LSAT. I went through the core curriculum (probably a little to fast) and have taken 10 PT's. I've now realized I am not where I want to be and September is just not going to happen for me. I know I need to go back through the CC (especially the lawgic stuff). I've posted here before and you all told me not to waste a take and especially not to waste a 4.0 GPA. My diagnostic was a 151 with -18 on LG. My average on these 10 tests was a 163 with BR in the 170's so I'm hopeful going back through the curriculum and refocusing myself without the stress of taking the test in September can help me increase my score 7-10 points. Now my question is this: I took tests 37-48 so how much damage did I do to myself? I still have 30 clean PT's that won't be touched until I feel I am ready again. I feel so relieved that I made this decision, thank you all for being a positive support group and giving great advice.

@ Your response is directly contrary to the posts above you. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to talk about someones achievements based on a resume stating a 4.0 GPA in Finance as well as involvement on campus and volunteering. Not to mention receiving a high A in their upper level class. My classes are huge and I never needed to go talk to a professor to receive help or anything like that. @.rizeq seems to think a great LOR can be drafted by a professor who doesn't know you personally. Obviously, it would be better if I was great friends with the professor writing me a LOR but that is not easy at the University of Florida where class sizes are large.

Not to hijack your thread but is it frowned upon to ask for LOR's from professors that don't know you personally... I attend a big public school (UF) and all my classes have been 500+ students. I will be in some smaller classes this fall but I will need LOR's pretty early to go with my September LSAT score so I am not sure what I should really do... Wait and ask professors who might know me a little better or ask some of my other professors who do not know me but I have received A's in their classes.

I just see LG's as the part of the test that is "easiest" to do well on. LG's are very much learn-able. I started at -18 and am averaging -6 right now. I know that if I can master LG's I have 10-12 questions to work with on the other 3 sections to score where I would like. To me, this is enough motivation!

After every test I thoroughly review every question I missed, typing out explanations for every wrong answer etc.

So, how are you BRing? It’s great you’re writing out the explanations. Keep doing that! But for your BR, you shouldn’t know which questions you missed yet; so if you’re grading before BR and only going over the ones you missed, this is actually a really bad study strategy.

Let me also be the first of many to suggest that you consider the possibility of withdrawing from September if the time comes and you’re not ready. And you’ve got to be honest with yourself when making this evaluation. That one PT you scored a 170 on isn’t sufficient to mean you’re ready to do it on the real thing. Believe me, I’ve been there! For the vast majority of us, four months is not enough time to maximize our score potential, and wasting a take before you’re ready is a really bad mistake that you don’t want to make. Again, I know. Commit yourself to your score, not your timeline.

I should have been much more clear. I BR all questions before I look at the answers but after I see the questions that I still got wrong after BR I delve deeper into the right and wrong answer choices. I guess me being adamant about taking the September test is due to the fact that I would not be able to ED with the December test and I know there is controversy over whether it is too late in the cycle etc... That being the case I might have to take a year off from school and either find a job with my Finance degree that I will have acquired or work something else out. I haven't really thought about this situation to extensively. I will be applying with a 4.0 LSAC GPA so I just want to make sure I am doing all that I can to maximize my potential score on the test. From everything I've read each point can be thousands of dollars in scholarships. At this point I am doing what I consider to be efficient studying 6 hours a day. I have seen good score increases and if BR is any indicator as to where I can score I think that I have learned a lot going through the curriculum as well as the limited number of PT's I have completed.

As for your suggestion to try to identify problems I am not completing quick enough I definitely think that is an issue with me. I am getting the problem correct but I need to quit second guessing my answers and overthinking things.

Thanks for your response here as well as in other posts. Your insight has been very helpful to me.

Go through the lessons then tackle practice tests with thorough BR and understand why each answer choice is correct/incorrect.

@ First of all, that RC score is golden, so be happy you don't need much improvement in that section. It takes others much longer to get there (including me >:| ).

For LR, are you using the 7Sage analytics? Which question types give you the most trouble? After figuring this out, don't stop there. Dig deeper. Does conditional reasoning trip you up? Abstract answer choices? For arguments, do you have a strong grasp of the flaw before moving onto the answer choices? Are you attempting to do the first 10 Qs in 10 minutes?

For LG, The Fool Proof Method really is your bff. That strategy works. Here's a twist on that method that many 7Sagers have used to master this section: https://classic.7sage.com/discussion/#/discussion/2737

Good luck!!

Hey Micalea,

Thanks for the response. I am happy with my RC! At least I feel I have a solid grasp on 1/3 of the test. For the LR, yes I am using the analytics - it shows that I am pretty bad at NA and Flaw Method of Reasoning questions. My accuracy on NA is 55% over 33 questions (yikes). As for Flaw Method I am 77% over 56 questions. These are my biggest and top rated circles. I feel like I am second guessing myself a little on LR which in turn costs me time. Like I will go through the answer choices and say I am pretty sure B is correct, well I will circle B then continue to go through all the other choices which wastes my time. Do you have any suggestions for skipping questions?

As for LG - I am definitely going to thoroughly go through all the games I have done thus far in PT 36-43. It is definitely a timing issue because without time constraints I can do the games and miss < 2 per section.

Thanks again!

Timing Issues

Hey all -

Just some background info - I started my studying with 7 Sage on May 16th and I plan on writing September 24 meaning I am about halfway through my studying. I scored a diagnostic score of 151 due to an abysmal LG section (-18). I have now completed the curriculum and have taken 7 PT's. My most recent score is a 164 with a BR score of 172. My breakdowns are generally -3 RC, -11 or so in LR and -6 on LG. My main issue as of right now is timing. I find I am a tad slow on every section besides reading. By a tad slow I mean 3-4 minutes. After every test I thoroughly review every question I missed, typing out explanations for every wrong answer etc. Right now I am not skipping questions so I am going to start skipping Parallel reasoning questions and see if that speeds up my timing but besides that do you all have any tips to increase my speed on LR and LG. I think I have potential for a 170+ but this time thing is a little concerning to me. Any tips from you all are much appreciated!

Is September too soon?

I started studying May 15th and will be completing the full 7Sage curriculum by next week. That being said the games are really posing a challenge for me. On my Diagnostic I missed 18/23 on the games but I was also completely clueless on what to do. Now I have gone through sequencing games and feel pretty confident but the Sequencing with a twist seem to be a lot harder for me and I am not even to the grouping games yet. I am shooting for a 168+ come September so that I can comfortably apply for this cycle and even apply ED if needed. I'll be applying with a 4.0 GPA (Finance - if it matters) and am really looking to get into a T14. My RC is going well as I am missing on average 2-4 and LR still needs some work missing about 6/section but I just want to make sure I am not rushing anything. I dedicate about 4 hours/day to this test and would like to be ready for September but I see no point in taking the test if I will not be ready to perform my best.

Did the games just start to come naturally for y'all once you kept doing them over and over and watching the videos 7Sage provides? Was there anything else you did that helped you with the games that JY didn't recommend?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Letters of Rec

I graduated earlier this year from a large university and while I did well in my classes I never really connected with any of my professors (my fault). At this point I need a letter or two so I can fire off my applications as soon as I receive my December score. I have one professor who I think might remember me but after that I am kind of lost. I don't want to come off as rude asking a professor who I am certain will not remember me to write me a letter. Any advice on navigating this situation?

How was your study routine like? What made the biggest difference in your study habits to get to your goal score? @

My routine was all over the place due to school, work, internships etc. I studied on and off for over a year - much of that time being light studying here and there.

What made the biggest difference for me was isolating where I could earn points easily. A -0 on LG is very doable for many people... -0 on LR or RC is much more difficult. Also, I developed a good skipping routine on LR. For example, any Parallel method Q's was instantly skipped till the end. Furthermore, I developed a routine for each question type. RC I just tried to engage in the article and make a mental note of the main idea in each paragraph.

Thank you 7Sage

I used 7Sage for all my studying. The community and the curriculum is awesome and helped me earn a top 10% score. I was able to secure a full ride from a strong regional T1 (UF) - this was my goal and I am happy to accomplish it.

You all are great here and this has to be the most supportive law related forum I have found on the internet.

I plan to stick around and I am sure you all will go on to do great things!

Thanks for everything 7Sage.
