Should I retake or just apply?

Hey guys, so long story short I took the Dec LSAT, cancelled my score, then took it again in June hoping to score in the mid to high 160s range (was scoring between 159 and 166 on my PTs) but I ended up getting a 160 flat due to what I feel was a fixable mistake in the last section (thought I screwed up section 4 really bad and I let that anxiety leak into section 5, ended up getting -8 on that final LR when I usually get less than -5). I have a 3.5 (I am a transfer student and my community college gpa kinda brought down my UC gpa) and a pretty good resume and LOR. I am also an URM. I want to ideally get into the lower T14 schools and the ones just outside it like Georgetown and UCLA but I would also need to be offered money. Should I retake? My first instinct was HELL YES I should retake but after speaking with an old friend who was also an URM with the EXACT same gpa/lsat score AND who just graduated from Cornell law school (she was given a 33% scholarship), I am having second thoughts. Thanks in advance!

P.S. If I were to retake, it would be the Sept test so I guess I have to decide soon D:

@ Thanks so much for the information! If I don't get any money from Columbia (which might happens since I'm working with only a 160 LSAT and 3.5 gpa), do you know if I can still use them as leverage against a lower T14?

Hi all,

Just to give you an idea of where I stand, I applied to almost all of the T14s, as well as a few schools ranked 17-25. My stats aren't that great, but I am a nontraditional student with a very interesting life story, as well as an underrepresented minority. One of my friends told me that, because of this, I would actually have a better shot of getting into a higher ranked school because they don't need to be as worried about preserving their numbers. I didn't believe her until I very recently got my first acceptance.

So far I have been accepted into Columbia (4), waitlisted from Cornell and Georgetown (13 and 14) and rejected from Berk, Emory, and GW (8, 22, and 25). I haven't received anything about scholarships from Columbia, so I don't know how much money (if any) they are going to offer me.

From what I have heard, you can negotiate with a given law school based off of what another law school offers you. In light of this, I am hoping that I get into a lower T14 school (like Duke or Northwestern) and use Columbia as leverage. I would love someone's opinion on how feasible that would be, as well as how the process actually works.

Thanks in advance!!

Hmmm. Well I was thinking about going through the 50-77 ones again and then use the previously undisclosed LSATs found in the Superprep books for the last week or two. But maybe I could mix in some of the earlier tests. Haven't decided yet. I have been studying for so long that I think this will all mostly be review than actually learning curriculum

Older, unseen PTs vs Newer, already seen PTs

Hey guys, I have seen PTs 52-77 at least once (twice and thrice in most instances) and I am wondering if it would be better to use those to gear up for the Sept LSAT or if I should rely on older PTs that I haven't seen as much/not at all. Thanks!

Seen all PTs, how do I get undisclosed LSATs?

Hey guys, third time taker here. I have seen basically every LSAT PT at least once (most of them at least twice). I hear that there are some previously undisclosed LSATs that I could get my hands on but I am pretty clueless on how to get them. Any advice?

Study Curriculum or just take PTs?

Hey so I already posted a similar discussion to this but it had a lot of other information and I really just need to decide how to study for the September LSAT since I already took it twice and have been studying on and off for a year.

My 7sage paid membership expired and I have almost mastered LG and LR. Should I just take PTs and timed sections leading up to the September LSAT? Or should I get the LSAT trainer and/or get another 7sage account? Main weakness is RC and I keep hearing that the best way to improve is to just keep doing it. I need to start studying again soon because I haven't looked at anything since the June. Thanks!

@ Thanks man, I appreciate the input. Are you going to stay with the 7sage curriculum or just going to do PTs?

I am in a very similar boat. What part of Atlanta?

Same boat man, was told by EVERY counselor that law school wouldn't look at my CC grades, and I coasted my last semester there because I had already gotten into the school I wanted to transfer to. Let me know if you write something about that in the addendum or something, I'm still debating on whether I should bring their attention to that or just let the chips fall as they may.

Optional addendum = Diversity Statement?

Hi all,

Most of the schools that I am applying to give the option of a DS which is awesome, because I have not so great stats but a very diverse/unorthodox upbringing. One of the schools that I am applying to (UCLA) doesn't say anything about a DS specifically, but there is an optional addendum section where it says "If there is additional information you would like to include in your application, please attach an addendum" so I was thinking about just uploading the same DS I am writing for all my other schools under this section, so that I can also use the PS that I have written (which has little to do with my upbringing).

Does anyone know if that is frowned upon or anything? I just want to make sure I don't make them roll their eyes at me when they are already looking at subpar stats haha. Thanks in advance!

Advice for 2nd retake?

Hi guys, I need some advice for how to go about my third LSAT

I took the LSAT for the first time in Dec of 2015 and cancelled my score (that LG petrified me). I retook June of 2016 and got a 160. I was a bit disappointed because I had scored a 166 a couple of times, but to be perfectly honest a 160 was a pretty accurate score given my last few PTs. I am applying to law schools in the fall (aiming for T20s only) and I really need scholarships so I have decided to take the LSAT one last time in September.

I haven't looked at anything since the June LSAT and I am wondering if anyone can give me some direction for how I should start studying. To give a basic overview, I did blue print the summer of 2015 leading up to the Dec LSAT, took a couple of months off and did the 7sage cirriculum in March of 2016 and used it leading up to the June LSAT. My paid 7sage membership has since expired and I am wondering if I should get a new membership, get the LSAT trainer that I keep hearing more about, or if I should just take a lot of PTs and isolated sections since I have already gone through the basics so many times.

Without a doubt, my biggest weakness is RC. While I was averaging -2 on LG and -4 on LR, I am lucky to get less than -10 on RC. For example, one of the times i scored a 166, I got -13 on RC but did really well on the other sections. If anyone has any advice on where to go from here I would appreciate it. I have actually gotten to a point where I am thinking about giving up on RC because I feel like I have tried everything (including the RC bible) and I still suck at it but I am also still able to pull of a decent score by doing well on the other sections.

Thanks in advance!
