If anyone is feeling kind and would like to send me a direct message with info from this I would appreciate it SO much. Im testing in June and this is the last time I can take the test in order to apply and be considered for law school in the fall. This means so much to me and I have been studying a ton...but any extra informaton you can provide about the test would be beneficial and very helpful to me. I took a powerscore course however I no longer pay so I do not have access. I really wish I would have seen this sooner - I would have loved to attend. Thank you for anyone out there willing!!!

How long would you say it took you to make this improvement ?

Hey!! I also struggled a ton with LR and used Loophole. Keep doing the Translation Drills, they reeeeeally helped me. Retaining and understanding the stimulus quickly enough was the hardest part for me. I know the book really emphasizes finding the Loophole in every question, but I find thinking of a fully fleshed out loophole in my head too time consuming. Instead, I think generally about the gap in the argument/why it doesn't work exactly, and I don't worry about the exact way to fill it yet. I just notice it. Sometimes I can't even put into words exactly what the gap is, I just have a feeling that something is missing between a premise and the conclusion, or feel like there's a flaw with conditional reasoning or sampling strategy, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Then I go into the answer choices, and use the Bad Answer Choice strategies she talks about in the last chapter of the book to eliminate ACs quickly. My biggest timesink before was giving wrong ACs the time of day and thinking that they could possibly be right if I stretched my mind to accomodate them. But there's no time for that. Instead, if I'm spending more than 10 seconds considering an answer choice, I just move onto the next one and usually a later one fits so perfectly into that gap in the argument that I can clearly eliminate the crazy one that was giving me trouble. I've noticed that wrong ACs are mostly just "Crazy Nonsense" there to take up your time.

This is my general approach to LR and it has really helped me. Also, just taking PTs over and over has helped me get familiar with the patterns, so most of the time now for SA or Inference questions I can already anticipate the right answer choices because they very often formulaically connect a premise to a dangling variable in the conclusion. I started at -11 and I'm at -4 and below consistently for the last several PTs I've taken. My biggest piece of advice still is to keep working on translation because that's what helped me the most to have enough time to approach each question without panicking. Then I worked on my approach to each individual question type. Good luck!!!

You should check LSAC website for specific dates. I know this cycle they changed the allotted time to change dates at no fee and with a small fee. You won’t get your money completely refunded at all, but you could get a partial refund. It says the direct information on the website.

Did anyone have issues with the proctor controlling their mouse during the timed test? I was unable to select answer choices, underline at many times, I would be using my mouse and it would just fly to the other part of the screen. I filed a complaint, im hoping they let me retest because it really effected my performance.

Congratulations! I am really happy to see this post and your kind words to others. You are a rockstar!!

I am pretty good at LG but can you suggest any insanely hard games for me to try? Maybe ones that are similar to the test you took or ones you think would be helpful to master?

thats how the new tests are. They will highlight the sentence they want you to go back to instead of giving you line numbers.

That is wack. Makes it really hard to BR lol

Reading comp advice quickest to master by October

Long story short I have been with a tutor since MAY trying to learn a method where you hardly read the passage (only first sentence of each and last sentence of passage) then for every question it’s basically a word search

I’m finding this method just doesn’t work. I’ve been questioning for months whether im an idiot or not but after practice testing with this method and getting 4 correct because her instructions lead me to the wrong answers I think I should change. The worst I did with powerscore method of ViewSTAMP was -9 so missing this many with this new method i’ve been paying for months is really upsetting. Sometimes her method works, for example certain passage sets I will only miss a couple but I really can’t afford to take this gamble anymore. Her method is not consistent with all passages I am finding.

Anyways, i’m testing in October and I NEED advice on how to improve by then in that section even if that means dropping this method and doing something else. What did you do for RC? It’s my worst section and I kind of suck at reading. Whatis easiest for you to understand the passage and helps the most when answering questions. Any advice you can give or tips for me to try is much appreciated

Thank you

recognizing syllogism patterns in LR. I highly recommend getting a logic book (something a college class in logic would use, not something trivial without substance), you'll have lots of lightbulb moments

LR will suddenly jump out as more cookie cutter in its forms

can you suggest any good books?

thanks for your answers! I just wanted to clarify I am aware of the amount of times you can test etc... what I am asking is how many times should you test. From what I have heard it either doesnt matter because admissions only looks at the highest score (not all of them therefore they would have no idea how many times you tested to get to that score) OR admissions does look at how many times you test and it does matter how many times you test (even if you do end up with a higher score at the end)

Ultimately, the goal is to test as little times as possible. Thus, obviously the goal should be once but this is often not the case. I'd try to max out at three (it seems a ton of people take it 2 times). You won't be penalized as long as you follow the literal rules, but I think that admissions is looking for people to not have to keep taking the test over and over. Hope this helps!

thank you so much! :)

Outside reading sources that helped you with RC?

I have heard many people say that their scores in RC improved when they started reading outside of practicing for the LSAT. I was wondering if you have had success with this, can you please post things you started reading that helped with your comprehension? I really suck at reading - my RC section drags down my score. No matter what I do or how many passages I do it isnt improving - so I want to try this. Please help if you can!

When will I be able to see my score via early score preview?

Unfortunately, from what I understand the score preview does not allow you to see the score earlier than anyone else. It just gives you the option of cancelling the score, if you want to.

Here is a direct quote from the LSAC website:

"First-time test takers who sign up for score preview will receive their scores at the same time other test takers receive theirs (assuming they have completed their LSAT Writing and have no holds on their accounts), and will have six (6) calendar days to decide if they want to cancel or keep their score."

Wrong info. You do see your score.

Dates are on the website, google is your friend.

You should hop on the internet and research this since it’s so friendly. That’s the right info.

Should I postpone?

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some unbiased advice on what you guys think is the best option in my situation.

Long story short I have been at this for a while. I have already tested two times (I cancelled my first score as a first time test taker) and was not impressed with my score. I relied heavily on LG and LR because I was terrible in RC. This is the mindset I had with the first two tests I took so it didn’t go well for me.

After realizing I would need to test again, I started with a new tutor for RC about a month ago and it has helped a ton so far. She has a method that is different from any other method I have learned where it’s more of a strategical/step by step approach. It’s different from what people typically tutor in RC, but nonetheless, very helpful so far. The only issue i’m having is the method either isn’t very consistent (I notice some passages I go -4 or less… other passages -10 plus) or i’m not comfortable with it yet. My tutor says that this is a foolproof way to get up there in the highway percentile of test takers…but it takes a couple of months to perfect it. I don’t think i’m terrible, however, definitely not scoring consistently where I would need to be to not heavily rely on the other two sections (sometimes… other times i’m fine so it’s hard to say)

I scheduled my test for June and it’s the last chance I have to go to law school in the fall so I really want to give it a shot but i’m worried about having so many tests on my record. What are the odds of me improving with this method in the last week? Should I take the test? If I do have to test again in August will having 4 tests look really bad for me? I’ve always heard admission only looks at the highest score but i’m worried having 4 will look awful for me.

THANK YOU

@ How are you doing on MSS questions? If you're strong on MSS, you can approach MBT questions the same way and then just do a final validity check on the answer choice you think is right to ensure you have a valid argument in front of you (stimulus + answer choice).

MBT is no different than MSS aside from the correct AC in MBT bringing the argument (stimulus + answer choice) to complete validity.

Does that make sense?

Another drill you can do to improve on both MBT and MSS is practice covering up the answer choices and creating an inference (MBT) or statement that is supported (MSS) on your own before looking at the ACs. In the beginning this can be tough, but as you get better, I think you'll find that you can confidently produce a statement that can be inferred or supported from the list of statements you just read in the stimulus.

After doing this exercise of creating your own answer choice, you might also find it helpful when going through each of the ACs for MBT to ask yourself the question: does this answer choice combined with the stimulus leave me with a flawed argument? If the answer is yes, that is a wrong AC. -- Because again, the stimulus + correct answer choice for MBT will leave you in the territory of validity.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thank you so much for this! You rock!!

This one took a long time for me to figure out even after watching the videos, reading the comments etc. So I'm gonna post what best helped me understand why E is right.

E: In most cities the majority of car thefts are committed by very few experienced car thieves.

Yes, because this answer choice is suggesting that the majority of the car theft is being done by few experienced thieves, according to the stimulus (the anti-theft device makes it possible to catch and apprehend even the most experienced thieves)

taken as true, we would assume based on this answer choice (if assumed true) that if all (experienced) thieves are being apprehended, then obviously yes the number of car thefts, in general, would drop because they are in jail and unable to steal future vehicles.

I don't know how helpful I can be since MBT has been giving me trouble, too. But I've been drilling 5-star MBT questions recently and a pattern I noticed is that the answer is always much simpler than I expect it to be. Since must be true is such a rigorous standard, the right answer is usually something that seems too simple. I've found that simplifying or visualizing the stimulus to make it make more sense to me has helped a lot. You could also try approaching it like a NA question, if those are easier for you, where if you negate it, the statements no longer work together.

Thank you - great advice...will try this out!

Hey everyone

I have been having trouble with MBT questions in specific.

Can you offer your tips and hints to how you handle them? Do you find writing out logic to help or waste more time?

I recently stopped seeing a tutor for LR because of the same issues you are describing. It felt like I was paying someone to explain something I could have explained to myself in review and it was a giant waste of time for me. Honestly I find that with LR most of the time it is more beneficial to go through by yourself to figure out what you did wrong and how to get it right next time. Thats the only way you are going to learn and prevent the same mistakes from being made in the future. I cant really speak on other sections - I would imagine that LG tutoring would be very beneficial if you needed it just because it is more of a strategical approach and its easier to improve in that section. As far as RC goes... I actually have a different tutor that has helped me greatly. Im not sure how else RC is tutored but she has taught me a method where you dont have to even read the passage or understand it really at all in order to answer the questions. Im not sure when you are testing (her approach takes some time to learn and expert) but it has been worth it for me. I was terrible in RC before (my worst section) I would seriously miss over 10 questions at minimum on a good day but now I am missing less than 4 max. Her method has helped me improve in LR too. If you are interested feel free to send me a message I can give you her information!
