Thank you!

I have come back to this question a few times and I still do not fully understand 1. Why D is wrong and 2. Exactly what C is saying.

This is my understanding of the stimulus and answer choice D: The more sunlight that is reflected back into space, the cooler the atmosphere. Snow and Ice reflect more sunlight back to space so the argument concludes that earth's surface covered with snow/ice would be cooler. So if D is correct and the atmosphere derives most of its heat from passage through the sunlight through it AND if snow/ice reflects more of that sunlight back to space than land without snow/ice, wouldn't this strengthen the conclusion?

I am not really sure what I am missing here. None of the online explanations seems to click with me so any help/feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

This thread is very bothersome. I thought this was a community to uplift and encourage each other.

I honestly don’t know how much this particular controversy should factor into considerations of which law school to attend. Wax was clearly out of her disciplinary depth with the article she co-authored—I don’t think that that particular point is really contestable. In fact, I would go so far as to say laughably out of her depth. And the African American grades comment is offensive and disheartening as well, because, even granting the past numbers as in fact true, possible (racist) motivations behind mentioning them are too salient to ignore.

At the same time, unless I am to think that professor wax violates blind grading practices, or else has found some way of reliably identifying minority students on finals in order to single them out for lower grades (not impossible to conceive, but still dubious), I’m not sure about the extent to which Wax alone should affect law school deliberations.

Of course, it might be said that she is a microcosm of larger issues at Penn, and that might well be but (if I got in) I would try to view prof wax in the overall context of UPenn instead of viewing UPenn in the context of Wax, so to speak.

Couldn't have said it better. As a woman of color, I find it counterproductive give too much attention to this kind of thing. This situation is not unique to law school and this personally would not deter me from attending a school. Ranking, scholarships, and job opportunities are more important to me. Unfortunately there are some people who will always judge others based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Not doing something, (you would otherwise do) because of these people, gives them too much power. Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back from school:)

Hey everyone, two updates:

The live commentary videos are up. S1 is here:

https://classic.7sage.com/lesson/preptest-82-s1-lr-live-commentary/

I added another BR call for Saturday evening to review Passage 4 since we didn't get to do it today. Because we spent more than 2 hours talking about judges and why they shouldn't lie.

Do I need to upgrade to see this or can it be purchased separately?

I am unclear about about when hypocrisy is a logical flaw. JY said that it is a flaw when the person employs the tactic she/he is arguing against. But in the example he gave about the doctor, isn't the doctor employing a tactic (smoking) that he is arguing against? He said the doctor's hypocrisy is not a logical flaw here but I am don't see the difference. Any clarification on this will be very helpful.

Thank you. I plan on calling them first thing in the morning.

I took the test this Saturday and I am very conflicted on what to do. I took the test in Connecticut. It was 30 something degrees outside that morning. The room was initially warm when I got there so I sat in the corner by the window. We lost heat in the room when the test started and I basically took the first half of the exam shivering and freezing the entire time ( I am anemic). My hands were shaking the entire time because I was so cold. It was fixed during our break and we had heat the second half of the exam. The only section I was not able to complete was one of the sections I took during the first half. I honestly don't know if it was difficult or if was the conditions or maybe both coupled with nerves. Leading up to the exam, I haven't had any problems completing the sections. In fact I was really excited because I had spent a year prepping and I was scoring very well on my PTs.

To make things worst my proctor--(very sweet elderly lady) would continue to give us instructions AFTER starting our time. She did this for EVERY section. So as I am reading question number 1 with the clock running, she would be talking. I don't think it was intentional. She was very kind...but those seconds do add up. Everything is telling me I should cancel and reach out to LSAC. Any advice?

I am very bummed. I really wanted to be done with the LSAT after this weekend.

#help Can someone please explain to me how the negation of answer choice B makes the argument stronger? It seems to me that the negation of B would actually imply that the census data would be more accurate (more people participating) and if this is the case, doesn't that weaken the conclusion?

I have a more general question about proposition question stems. There was on the first section. Should these question types be approached like principle questions or are they more like inference questions? I have read both so I am a bit confused.

Thanks!

This MBT question really threw me for a loop because of the bi-conditional. In this particular question I think it is the "unique, whenever" that indicates that it is a bi-conditional. I am aware of these 4 indicators from the core curriculum:

  • (either) or, but not both
  • -if and/but only if

    -...but otherwise

    -....except

But since this question didn't utilize any of these,-- I am now wondering if there are any other bi-conditional indicators not listed here? Also, does anyone know of other logical reasoning questions that use bi-conditionals?

    Thanks so much!

    Claim vs Argument

On the LSAT is there a difference? I heard JY make a distinction in one of the videos (PT 57 explanations) and I am not sure if there is a major difference between the two. If you are asked to weaken or strengthen a claim, should it be treated the same way as an argument?

    Thank you

    Proposition Questions

Proposition questions: should I approach these like an inference question or a principle question? I've read different things. Example of this question type is PT 82 section 2 question 14.

    Thanks in advance!

Best Practices the week of the Exam

I am taking the exam this Saturday and I am feeling a bit anxious. What are some do's and don'ts the week leading to the exam? How would you recommend studying and how much to study? I am a slow starter (I need to warm up before a test) so I feel like I need to keep doing drills to keep my pace. However, I don't want to overwork myself. Any advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated!

How to get back into study mode after time off

Hi! I am just getting back into studying after taking a month off. I was studying for the June test, but decided to push it back to September. I feel a bit rusty. Should I get right back into taking preptests and doing drills? Any suggestions? Would really appreciate any feedback!!

    Thank you
