The reason I did not choose A on this question comes from the last sentence of the second paragraph. This sentence says the protagonist realizes there is only one choice. The implication here is that they know that the gods are only giving them one choice, therefore it tracks that if they know this fact they can not be deluded into thinking they were given free will.
