To diagram or not to diagram in LR

Hi,

How do you decide whether or not to diagram a particular LR question?

I often over-diagraming. There were several questions in recent PTs where I thought I must diagram, I did, only to realize later that it was a wast of time. The flaws were in quantity terminology (many, some, all etc.) or specific words rather than chain of reasoning.

Any tips?

Thanks.

@ @ @ Thank you all for tips and reminders.

Hi fellow June test takers, I would love to hear your insight on three things related to the last PT you will take before the test.

  • when?
  • which one?
  • why?
  • The reason I am asking is because 1) I only have time for 1 more PT before the test; 2) my latest PT was PT81, and I am not sure if I should take PT82 or PT86; 3) I am OK with LG, but having difficulty with LR and RC. I read from a reddit post that LR in PT85 and PT86 are wordier. If this is true, I should really familiarize myself with the newer test.

    Thanks in advance!

@ Thanks for sharing your method. I did not mark ACs during LR, oops! I was trying to save the same copy for BR, and I found that circling marks were difficult to erase. I am taking June test, so need to make sure ZERO bubbling error. I will check out your method tom. Thanks again.

how to avoid Bubbling error? need tips

    Hi,

What do you do to avoid bubbling error? In recent PTs I have done, I made 1 bubbling error per PT!!!

This problem is with RC and LR.

For LG, I circle each answer and bubble after each game. I often have time to go over my bubbling at the end of the section.

With RC and LR, I bubble after each question but I do not circle answers.

    Thanks.

@ Going into your first LSAT test, it sounds like your anxious. Don't be. If you have a bad test on test day, it's just one test and it will not diminish your prospects. You own this test, it doesn't own you.

@ You are totally right. I am anxious and am also kinda burn-out. Thanks for your kind words.

    @ Thank you!

    @ Thanks a lot.

I haven't seen the skipping webinar. Where is it?

Also, you are soooooo right. "you cannot do real BR if you check your PT score first." I have to admit that I haven't take BR as seriously as I supposed to. I was so into the Score itself rather than taking the whole PT/BR thing as a way of learning and improving.

    @ @

Thanks a lot for quick reply. I really need some input from you guys. After listening to Account Playable's podcast this morning (thank you @ for introducing his BR method), I realized that my BR method is really bare minimum for LR and RC. With LG, I have been using fool-proof method with J.Y's explanation. Though, recently, I haven't really focusing on LG, and my score reflects it.

I put my BR score below.

    PT75, 167/ BR172

    LG(-2/0)

    LR1(-2/0)

    LR2(-4/-3)

    RC(-6/-5)

    PT73, 165/ BR169

    LG(-2/0)

    LR1(-9/-6)

    LR2(-3/-3)

    RC(-5/-3)

    PT76, 162/ BR170

    LG(-2/0)

    LR1(-11/-6)

    LR2(-4/-2)

    RC(-7/-4)

    PT77, 167/ BR173

    LG(-4/0)

    LR1(-2/0)

    LR2(-4/-2)

    RC(-6/-6)

    PT65, 163/ not yet

    LG(0/0)

    LR1(-6/-2)

    LR2(-9/?)

    RC(-8/?)

How can I practice skipping method? I know I should really skip/not to spend a lot of time on certain questions. Even I spent a lot of time, I will not be able to get certain questions right. But how exactly can I practice this strategy so that I can effectively use it during exam?

Besides, for the next two weeks, how many PTs should I do? I am planning to do 3 of them in two 6-sections (which I typically do during PTs).

@ Somehow I missed your comments early. I should have put the actual hours I spent on LSAT so far, which is ~270hr (that is ~25hr/week).

    @"Adam Hawks" @drbrown2 @TheDeterminedC

Guys, thanks for your help with my previous question about RC. I need more advice/assurance/tough love. My target score is 165+. Before deciding whether or not to write in June 2019 test, I wrote three PTs as diagnostic in the first week of study. I got 164(PT39), 171(PT45, supposed to be easy one), and 164(PT72). I thought that with ~25hr/week of study for 12 weeks, I should be able to hit my target score of 165+ safely. For some time, my goal seemed attainable. I did seven PT50s with average of 167(with only one below 165).

But now, I am getting more and more frustrated. Here are my recent PT scores with PT65 from today.

    PT75, 167

    LG(-2), LR1(-2), LR2(-4), RC(-6)

    PT73, 165

    LG(-2), LR1(-9), LR2(-3), RC(-5)

    PT76, 162

    LG(-2), LR1(-11), LR2(-4), RC(-7)

    PT77, 167

    LG(-4), LR1(-2), LR2(-4), RC(-6)

    PT65, 163

    LG(0), LR1(-6), LR2(-9), RC(-8)

For PT76 and PT65, RC sections were very difficult for me (i was not able to finish the last 2-3 questions). In both cases, an LR section followed. In both cases, I was lost during the LR: I spent a long time to finish the first couple of easy questions, I forgot about the strategies I suppose to implement (such as negation test for NA, etc.). The only thing I remember was trying to finish the questions. Well, I bombed the LR sections as well.

Besides wonderful suggestions about review/BR, any advice on how I should use the rest of two weeks more effectively? How can I prevent the after-shock effect of a particularly bad section?

    Thanks.

@ Just finished listening the first half of the podcast, good stuff! My BR process was bare minimum compared to Account Playable's. I see what I need to do now. Thanks a lot!

RC: not getting better score with BR

    Hi,

The title says it. To put into numbers, here are recent PTs I did.

    PT75 RC: -6/-5(BR)

    PT73 RC: -5/-3(BR)

    PT76 RC: -7/-4(BR)

    PT77 RC: -6/-6(BR)

I started preparing for LSAT about 10 weeks ago. My diagnostic with PT72 was RC: -4/-6(BR). I don't really see improvement.

I am going to write June 2019 test. Should I just forget about RC in the last 3 weeks of study?

    Thanks.

    Help with modern RCs!

I am having a hard time with newer RCs. With older ones (( PT60), I can often find a clearer correspondence between a correct answer and the supporting lines. With newer RC passages, the Answer choices really stumped me. There seems no correct answers! Because I cannot find A correct answer, I often struggle with one question for a long time and had to rush the rest of questions/passages.(/p)

    Any tips?

A related question is that I see a couple of people mentioned fool-proof RCs. Fool-proofing method for LG worked really well for me, so I am thinking to try out this method for RC. Did it work for you, especially with newer RCs? Thanks.

@ I tried to mimic actual testing conditions when PTing. I was surprised that things turned out be so different during actual test.

@ Thanks. I hope LSAC did not make the LR questions look easy (but in fact they are tricky and difficult).

I cannot help to keep thinking about LRs in this test. I had RC LR LG LR LG. With LR2 (the one with a one-way route/bike lane/bus Q), I had about 4-5 minutes to spare which never happened to me during PTs. When the closest to this happened to me was with PT73 LR1(I felt great about it, moved swiftly, and had ~3 min to spare), but turns out that I missed -9 in that section alone! I am really hoping that Monday's LRs are not difficult ones. Can anyone with a good grasp of LRs confirm or deny it?

BTW, my PT86 LRs were -6/-4. Thanks.

for the experimental LG section, was there something about putting things into months? like for November, December, ... ? was that from the (using power score labels) 'Art on walls of a room' game or 'Authors of a scientific paper (grads, undergrads, scientists, etc)' game?

anyone else have RC LR LG LR LG

I think the 3rd section was the experimental LG? Can someone confirm or deny this?

    Confirmed.

I had the same test as you.

How’d you do on the last game?

Yes, Mine was also RC LR LG LR LG. The third one was experimental.

@ @ I had very weird feeling about LRs. I finished 2nd LR with ~4-5min to spare which never happened to me during PTs. The LRs in this test were so different from PT80s. I also had a streak of certain letter answers that I kept thinking during the test that this shouldn't be right...Was it super-tricky?

@-eyed-raven shouldn't the score be 163? I got exactly the same number of questions wrong as you did in each section (got -8 on RC, -4 on LR part 1, -5 on LR part 2, and -4 on LG). My diagnostic score was 164, so I am a bit disappointed.

    Confirm action

    Are you sure?
