Long long road from 139 to 163

Honestly, I still can’t believe this is my score! Hopefully my story out there can help others like me keep fighting! Sorry if it’s all over the place!

I started studying for the LSAT back in 2017 while in college! At first I tried doing self studying, but at the time I really was not focusing and able to learn that way. I bought so many books and just couldn’t do them at the time. I also ended up doing a really expensive class that personally did not help for me. I started with a 139 and highest i got on the actual LSAT was a 146. It was about a 3 month long crash course. Not for me, maybe now with my current score would have been nice to do. But not for early on studies. It really sucked seeing everyone else learning and excelling while it felt like I was left behind. Which also did not help. I studied for about a year at this point of my story. PS. DO NOT compare yourself. Easier said than done, but it was a big reason I didn’t go farther. I didn’t believe in myself, which did not allow me to get the score I knew I could get. This exam is a confidence exam big time!

Since money was/is a huge factor for me, I know I couldn’t go to law school yet. I had no idea what to do next. I looked at my options and decided to do TFA (Teach for America) and am still teaching (in year 3). I basically took most of my first year off and started studying around February 2019. So it has been a little over a year gap since i last studied. Since I was working full time I really studied on and off. Studied full time over the summer off (teacher perk). I realized over the summer that I was not quite ready to take the LSAT. I really wanted to apply last cycle, but knew from the past there wasn’t a point to rush it. It did not work last time, and with working full time I thought best to wait it off. So I made a decision to continue studying and apply this cycle.

I finished the 7Sage curriculum around December of 2019. I have always been naturally good at games, typically no more then -5. RC has always been my downfall (-10/-12), and LR for a long time too I had issues in (-10/-11). I went through so many different routes. I went from CC straight to PTs. When that wasn’t working I did some research and decided to just practice untimed sections and slowly get faster. Honestly, most things did not work. While at this point I was consistently scoring in the low 150s, it wasn’t much higher than the 150 start that I started with in 2019.

Fast forward COVID hit in 2020 and my score was not improving. Over the summer off I was studying from the Loophole book. No offense to 7sgae, but I learned so much more from there personally! It taught me how to think like JY. 10/10 recommend this. I started seeing more consistency with my score at like a 153. Untimed I consistently only got wrong about 5. July 2020 i took my first exam since about November of 2017. I got my score of a 156. Had never scored that way ever until the exam!! I was beyond excited. But I know the work wasn’t done. I decided that hopefully the last time I will ever have to take the exam would be November 2020.

However, between July and November teaching took over my life. When I mean I sacrificed a lot, I mean a lot. Luckily everyone around me was really understanding and have a great support system. I couldn’t work out, see friends most weeks, it was brutal. I would work, study for 2-3 hours and basically go home to shower, eat, and go to bed for the next day. Honestly this was the hardest part. It was a huge sacrifice that I didn’t want to continue doing. This is the mental game with this exam, it takes a lot from you. Especially when I have been on the journey on and off for 3 years now. Also a teacher during this time has been extremely difficult. So I found myself tired most days, not really learning anything.

I went Into July feeling Not prepared. The highest I was PTing was a 160, but typically a 158. However, I went into it as relaxed as possible. I didn’t study about 2 days before the exam. I woke up at my normal time on exam day, walked to a local coffee shop, and did things that made me happy that have been taken away because of the LSAT. I think that’s a huge reason I did so well. Mental breaks are needed using this exam!

I saw my score of a 163. Honestly, I was BRing in this area, but never received this score. Don’t know if the fatigue didn’t allow me to ever get this score or what, but I am SO thankful that I pulled it together last minute.

Sorry for my story being all over the place or not detailed. I just want to end with this: don’t give up. I had so many obstacles and doubts and I pulled through. This has by far been the hardest thing I’ve had to do, especially with how long I studied. But to get that score has been so worth it. For the schools I want to apply to, this guarantees big scholarships to these schools and that is what I needed. 7Sage and everything it was has been such a big help! Good luck to those still on their journey, one day you will be the one writhing this post!

November study buddy(ies)

Hello all!

I am very interested in having a study buddy or buddies for the November LSAT. If interested, please feel free to message me!

A little about my LSAT journey, strengths, and weaknesses:

Started studying back in 2017. Started with a 130, ended up only scoring highest 146 on the actual LSAT in college. Most of this was due to not giving myself enough time to actually understand everything and just rushing through the process. Fast forward to over a year later and I started studying again. I decided to do TFA (so teaching is currently my full time job). I just took the July flex and got a 156!!!!! Super excited for this score, but I want to get into the 160s (preferably 162+) due to wanting $$$ for schools.

I am entering my 3rd year teaching, so my job constraints may play a role on how much time I can give to the LSAT everyday, but

since I am off Saturdays (duh!) I typically take those days to study all day. I would want a partner who is the some boat as myself working full time, or someone who is understanding of this.

Strengths/weaknesses:

I am excellent in games. Timed I usually vary from -1 to -5 (trying to currently FP LG 1-35 atm)

I am so-so on LR and RC. LR has gotten better (can do typically -7 timed). RC is for sure a toss-up. I am very well versed in government, criminal justice, social issues, and economics. So that is when I typically shine in RC. Science is for sure not my strong suit, and typically my biggest weakness in all of the LSAT.

Trying to tighten everything up and would love someone on a similar journey as myself! Like I said above, please just message if you are interested!

FYI: I am in Central timezone, just as a heads up if you are in another timezone!

Honestly, I love 7Sage, but I have seen better results from loophole so far! I think it’s a lot of the same stuff, but they teach you how to think like JY (you know when he teaches us in essence we see into what he’s thinking when he answers a questions) well loophole actually shows you how to do it!!

But if anything, I would review the CC on the question types you are getting wrong! So if you are not strong on NA, re-visit it in the CC!

So I went through the whole CC. But I think that was a bad idea on my end. I am a teacher, so needless to say I have a million things running through my head at once. So by the time I finished the CC I completely forgotten LR. I would do a drill (So an older apt timed, BR, and see answers + videos if possible) or if you know the question types you see you have the most problems with do drills of those. or if you’re not fully understanding don’t move on!! I would try to keep what you learned fresh, because it can be something you forget depending on how long you plan to study.

I am really confused as to why A is correct.

I saw this question as a RRE Q (Resolve, reconcile, explain). Here we have all people of this country approving legislation requiring that certain hazardous wastes be disposed of by being burnt in modern-high temperature incinerators. But there is push back (not getting the building permits) from every Gradaran community that the waste disposal plans to build these incinerators.

I took this as they are trying ot build the incinerators and the push back has to be due to something that the incinerators do. Maybe like pollution. So I am just unsure how A is correct.

Can someone please help me see how C is correct.

My thought process was this:

P1: high atmospheric winds off the western coast of Africa -> formation of hurricanes threaten US mainland

P2: abundant rain falls in SS Africa -> hurricanes hit with particular frequency

Abundant rain -> promote the ability of the winds to form hurricanes

I did not really see the flaw, but I thought there was some kind of jump. So maybe a unstated assumption.

In another blog I read said it was a correlation/causation, but I do not see that.

Thank you so much!

I know there is an answer to this question out there, but I am really confused on the conditional logic here. If someone can break that down for me, it would greatly help me understand when the other answer choices are wrong and further help me see why D is right.

So I got this correct, but only on the basis that I knew this was a medium leveled question. I cannot fully eliminate A and need additional help.

When I read this my initial instinct was to say how do we know that 62% is representative. Again, after knowing this was a medium level questioned I felt that A was too easy to fall for and I re-read the stimulus and saw it mentioned that it wanted to increase readership. With that this is what followed:

A - Could not eliminate

B - So what that other journals have done this? We just care about this journal and what they are doing.

C - I choose this because out of the other answers this felt like it mentioned both that representative discrepancy mentioned AND the want for the increased readership. However, I am still not entirely confident in this answer choice

D - So what about the cost?

E - So what?

I am just really confused of why the right answer is B.

My thought process was this:

C: It is advisable for businesses to implement such variations.

Why? because of all the information above. When I read this I thought there was an assumption between all businesses having a standard software. Writing this out, I see why this is wrong, but I also do not see why B would strengthen this.

Answers the way I saw them:

A: This is right. In my head this reinforced the assumption I thought I saw

B: So what? We never mentioned cost

C: Again, money is never mentioned. But also, it was mentioned that they were compatible. So this is pointless

D - This might weaken the argument b/c even if we fix one issue, there is another issue anyway. Also, what are destructive computer programs?

E: So what? These businesses want to do that. Even if they do not, it does not strengthen anything

Yes! Thank you!

After reviewing, I can see why the wrong answer choices are wrong, but I cannot also tell you why C is the right answer. To me is just does not make sense. To me I thought this if anything would strengthen the argument.

Yes!! Sometimes I have to go to LSAT hacks, manhattan prep, or other places to see how they explained it so I can understand it

You might be able to find drills, but honestly I would treat these like you would logic games and "fool proof" them in a way. So before taking this PT there was a section on how to BR, and there J.Y. said any questions you get wrong to save them and come back to them every once in a while. If you feel like you are struggling with this, I would do just that! I also know they have a thing here where you can find study partners (maybe not anymore? It has been over a year since I have last been on 7sage). Maybe having someone else explain it to you might be helpful as well!

Hope this helps!

So I got this question right on both the timed and BR (I have an LSAT class before this over a year ago, so somehow still have some knowledge on conditional reasoning). However, when hearing the explanation I was honestly not seeing the connection. I knew how I got to the answer, but I could not show it to you in a CR relation. I just noticed the jump from AEB to EA and knew they were different. After 30 minutes of research I think I found the answer to help those who might be on the same boat.

This is what we know:

In order to be AEB you need a UD AND F

AEB-> UD

&

F

The contrapositive of that is going to be if you have F OR UD then you cannot be appointed to the AEB

F -> AEB

or

UD

F & UD (bachelors)

C: Murray EA

So if we look at the contrapositive that is bolded we see already see the start of this.

We have F -> AEB. We are missing the jump from the information given to EA

That is why if AEB -> EA.

So: if F-> AEB -> EA

In other words if EA-> AEB-> UD

&

F

Hopefully this made sense. Its easier to explain when you can actually draw it out.
