I know this discussion comes from nowhere but I'm curious to understand how some of you think. While prepping for the LSAT, I've looked into various strategies and techniques on how to become a "better" reader. Becoming a "better" reader in the LSAT sense of could mean a lot of things and seems very subjective, but, to me, "better" is just synonymous with "increased understanding." Now, I forget where and when, but somewhere along my journey I remember coming across an article that suggested I should train myself to learn how to read without listening to my own voice. I think I was searching for ways to become a faster reader, I'm not sure, but the premise of the article was somewhere along the lines of "don't read the words aloud in your head because it slows down your reading."

Personally, I have no clue how to read without listening to own voice. The idea doesn't even make sense to me! I've always listened to my own voice when reading. With the LSAT, I literally have conversations with myself during the process of reading a stimulus or RC passage. It helps me digest whatever bullshit argument or scenario the LSAT is throwing at me.

My questions: when you are reading LSAT material, is there a "right" way to read? Is there a "better" way that I don't know about? What is the balance I should be trying to obtain between speed and proper understanding?

Does any of this even make sense to any of you?

If you had a neuropsych evaluation and the psychiatrist knew what he/she was doing, you should be fine.

For part 1, FB --> ~SPW or FA is correct. It also makes sense. We know from the original conditional statement that if seeds are planted in the winter, the only way flowers can blossom is with fertilizer being applied. If there's no fertilizer and the seeds were planted in the winter, we can kiss the prospect of seeing flowers blossoming goodbye. The contrapositive tells us that flowers are blossoming, so what does this imply? Well, either the seeds were not planted in the winter (maybe they were planted in the spring, summer, or some other time when fertilizer is not needed and a different set of conditions are at play...) OR fertilizer was applied (in which case it would be possible for the seeds to have been planted in the winter), OR, perhaps both.

Thank you for making LG fun!

When I first started studying for the LSAT in June of this year, I went -12 on my LG diagnostic. After dredging through a BluePrint course for three months, I was not seeing any improvement, despite my drilling and constant practice. Nothing clicked. The supposed "easiest section to improve on" was not the case for me, and I was in total disbelief when people told me "You'll eventually enjoy logic games." It didn't make sense because, well, it's really hard to enjoy something you're terrible at!

At the beginning of October, I found out about 7sage through TLS and started tuning in. I signed up for the core curriculum exclusively for JY's advice. I took the time to go through all of the Lawgic materials. I took it seriously when JY said things like "If you don't understand this, you need to go back to the (x) section and review your fundamentals" before listening to the explanations. After a month of review, I started doing LG again. I drilled and practiced like an animal, fool proofed games, tracked my timing, and filled an entire notebook.

I accomplished my first -0 on LG on PT 59. Yesterday, I went -0 on PT 78. Now LG and I are friends.

@"J.Y. Ping" Thank you!

PT 59 ~ Broke the barrier

Despite going -6 on RC, I managed to break the 170 barrier for the first time (171)! Went flawless on LG (another first). Big confidence boost going into December test.

Does anyone have a list of "math" questions for the LR? I seem to be struggling. Thanks!

Do you mean % vs. quantity questions?

@.rizeq the four Indian LSATs released are ACTUAL 2009 LSAT—India, the ACTUAL 2010 LSAT—India, and the ACTUAL 2012 LSAT—India. You can find more information below.

These tests are a cakewalk in comparison to the real deal.

One of the schools I am applying to accepts February scores and I am pretty sure I can get in without retaking the LSAT. However, would it be a good idea to submit my application now and take the Feb administration in hopes that I can have some more leverage negotiating for scholarship?

On another note, this was my first LSAT. My diagnostic was a 143. A +21 improvement isn't bad. But all I can think about this freakin mistake.

@.rizeq I highly recommend a retake.

Yeah, that's what I am going to do. While the material is still salient, I'm registered to slaughter February. I'll submit apps to those who accept February scores. If I'm not happy with any of the results, I'll hold my hand and just put everything on ice until next fall.

I'm losing hair by the minute.

I need some hard LR sections to insert as 5th sections on upcoming PTs. Has anyone considered or know what the top 10 or 5 hardest LR sections might be? Haven't been able to find anything like this online, apart from individually ranked questions.

RIP today.

Dear Jeff (Creasey),

Each question stem will present a job for you to do. Simply do that job, nothing more, and nothing less. Do not do what it is not asking you to do. Stick to the scope of the arguments, be methodical in your approach, and trust your intuitions. You spent a great deal of time fine-tuning your fundamentals and mechanically answering questions. Trust this, trust JY (Belichick), stay focused, and be a beast.

Love,

Yourself

LSAT:

Assuming I don't hit the 167-170 I'm looking for from December, I'll keep practicing everyday all day until February's administration. Specifically, I want to better prepare myself for the likelihood of another novel game type scenario. There's about 12-15 games circular, mapping, and non-formulaic games dating back to PT1 that I want to foolproof. I also want to keep fresh on my RC and LR drilling. Some 175+s and -0 sections on repeat PTs is also a goal.

Personal:

Cook more often and eat/order out less frequently.

@.E.D My friend made significant progress after we analyzed, in great depth, every possible bearing each answer choice could have on an LR question.

But soooo many times an answer choice will have absolutely no bearing on anything mentioned or implied in the stimulus passage. Like you said, it's all about relationships. If there is no relationship, it is helpful to know an answer can and should be eliminated without having to think about anything else other than the fact that it is irrelevant. Sometimes the LSAT wants to trick you into overthinking things and start rationalizing why something could be correct when, in reality, all we need to care about is how it relates to the other words on the paper. Answers that are irrelevant or beyond the scope of sometimes entice me to begin inputing my own thoughts into the argument. That's not good, but I can usually able to nip this in the bud with a good 'ol "Irrelevant!" and save myself.

@ Arguably, valuable work experience is more important than a great LSAT score in a perfect application package.

I just don't see how you could make that argument work.
