Thanks akistotle!

Hi all --

So I'm in a position where, if I choose, I can have a U.S. Senator (that I work for) write me a letter of recommendation. I was this Senator's driver for a couple years, and after leaving that role I took on a junior policy role (where I am today).

That said, a letter from the Senator will likely be pretty formal / somewhat perfunctory, because that's just how the Senator tends to do these types of things even though we have a great personal relationship. An alternative would be to have a more direct supervisory of my policy work write me a letter, which would likely be written much more enthusiastically.

SO! The question is -- What is more attractive to law schools? A good letter from a prestigious individual, or a super enthusiastic letter from someone else?

Thanks for any thoughts/insight ya'll might have.

How do you view what schools have granted you a fee waiver on the LSAC website? Also, what is the best day to directly reach out to a school to request a fee waiver?

If you're asking this particular question, I think you already know the answer.

If you're 40 days out I'd recommend taking as many timed tests as you can between then and now (and of course BR'ing/reviewing each of them). LR questions get wayyyyy easier the more you do them. So many of the questions are formulaic and it's possible to almost predict what an answer choice will be for a given question stem after a while.

And if you're finding you consistently have difficulty with a certain type of question, 7Sage has some great resources where you can practice only that type of question.

These were also the hardest LR questions for me. It can get better. If you put in the work.

Watch JY's video for each question you get wrong. And then do the question again----try and remember his method for solving it. And then do that question again in a few weeks. Write down the questions that are hardest for you and revisit them.

If you're having trouble translating lawgic into English and vice versa, that's going to be a huge problem for these questions. You've gotta practice that and get proficient at it. Parallel flawed method / parallel method questions often rely on very small differences here to find the right answer.

Personally (and this was after I had mastered translating English into lawgic), I found it really helpful to use the LR resources page where 7Sage provides all the questions of a certain type for you to blow through and review. Doing them again and again made these questions (after a lot of practice) become pretty easy, but it took a lot of time and frustruation.

I think it's unfair that they recycled a test that wasn't entirely sealed. Revealing the type of a specific logic game gives some test takers an unfair advantage.

What do you mean by "wasn't entirely sealed" ??

The were recycling a test that wasn't suppose to have been released at all. Test takers discussed the question types. Powerscore predicted which test would be recycled, and gave tips one the question types to prepare for. They were encouraging people to study circular games because they guessed which test was going to be recycled.

Well that's fucked up

I got 3 LRs. The second one has a question about bright male birds and the pick of nesting site. Can someone confirm if it is real?

I got 2 LR sections and I don’t remember this being there on either of them

Agree -- I didn't get this question

I honestly don't remember a single question from LR except the teddy bear one now LOL

same, I spent like 2 mins on that question and I had no idea what to pick lol

I think the answer was one re: that the kids tend to choose bears with features similar to those they already own. > @ said:

Anyone have a guess on the curve? Overall seemed a bit on the easier end to me but maybe I just studied more for this one haha.

I agree it's probably an easier test --- which makes me a bit nervous re: the curve

Yeah I didn't think it was all that bad. guy from LSAThacks was saying on Reddit he thought the curve was -11, -12. Apparently it was the same test as feb 2014, which was difficult.

What do you mean by that? I don't know what "-11, -12" means. To get a 170?

Which LR were real? Got LR LG LR LR RC

My understanding is that the 3rd section was experimental

what are you basing that on?

Maybe I'm totally wrong, but I know my 3rd section was experimental from talking to another test taker at my center. I think everyone tends to have the experimental at the same time, right? (i.e. if mine was the 3rd section everyone's was, but maybe not).

Just got done! My take is that it was an easier exam than the July, 2018, test (which I also took). In particular, I think the reading was easier.

It's my sense that the 3rd section was experimental.

Nothing you can really do but try and try again! Fail now so you don't fail later.

Civil Disobedience Arrest

Hey ya'll --

About 4 years ago I participated in a peaceful, organized protest that involved a sit-in. I was arrested for something like "blocking passage" (I think in DC it might be called "Crowding, obstructing, or incommoding"). Basically, I was taken to a processing center with the other protestors, paid a nominal fee (something like $75-$100) and went on my merry way. All of this was planned--and I had gone to a session on peaceful civil disobedience beforehand / knew that the arrest would take place.

That said, I'm looking for advice discussing this on the character and fitness portions of applications. Are any of ya'll going to have to disclose something similar? And does anyone have any insight into how admissions committees view these types of things?

Also, is anyone going to be listing traffic incidents on their apps? (Ex., a ticket for a red light).

Many things to anyone that can respond --

Kyle

I studied for the LSAT for about 10 months beginning last October through this July. I made a commitment to studying for at least 2 hours each weekday and roughly 4-7 hours each day on the weekend while also working full time. Also, I had already been out of college for more than 2 years by the time I decided to start studying for the LSAT.

Through that time studying I found that it's really just repetition again and again and again that taught me to master the logical reasoning and logic games sections. When I saw I was consistently getting one type of problem wrong (i.e. flawed pattern of reasoning), I would take time to focus on those exclusively with the 7Sage question bank tool.

That sweat equity helped me get a 169 on the June test, and a 175 on the July test. Work hard and don't give up! (And take care of yourself too).

Personally, I think that sounds like a big waste of time. After blind-reviewing a section, I'd watch the videos for the ones that I got wrong once/both times, and those that I circle on my way through the section (indicating it's a question I want to re-visit if I have enough time / I'm not 100% sure on the answer). That extra time would be better spent on stuff you know you need work on than watching an 8 minute video on an obvious "flawed assumption" question.

Thought I was prepared. Tanked from nerves and not managing time properly. I had been averaging ~172 in PT's; I'd be shocked if I got better than a 166 today. See ya'll in July.

I would much rather they start releasing scores at midnight so that most folks can check them as soon as they wake up; now I'll be refreshing the browser all day at work tomorrow.

What's the downside of postponing? You won't be able to apply until next cycle anyway, which means you could take any combination of the June / July / September (and potentially even December) tests.

If you think you're not 100% ready and have the opportunity to study more, than my personal vote would be to withdraw and put in the work.

Sounds pretty much like my schedule, which I am happy with. I study for 2-3 hours on weeknights (working full-time or longer) and generally 5-7 hours a day on the weekend. With that time, I'm able to take, blind review and then watch videos for select questions for two full practice tests each week, plus a full day dedicated to BR'ing earlier logic games.

I don't think I could do any more time than that, and I'm seeing improvement / happy with the schedule (I'm taking the test in June).

When do you hear about merit scholarships?

Hi all --

I was very surprised / excited to find my first acceptance letter waiting for me after returning home from the holidays (yay!). However, the letter makes no mention of any kind of scholarship opportunities. Can anyone shed light on whether merit scholarships are generally included in an initial acceptance letter, or if that's something you might often hear about at a later date? Also, it was weird that I received the physical acceptance letter but the online status-checker continues to show no movement.

Thanks!

Kyle
