Maybe this is also a sign of me going crazy ( ), but being able to explain LR out loud to myself or others as a form of BR.

Thank you so much for adjusting the time! I am late to the post and flying tomorrow morning, so I won't make the first two, but I will try my best for the last two. And will definitely be present for the PT 70 reviews! Thanks J.Y.

For 170+ scorers: Post-BR Use of Tests & Gen Advice

Hey! Question for 170+ scorers— after extensive BR of incorrect questions and any anything that gave an inkling of trouble, what do you do with your PTs?

Background: I'm a month out from July 15 test date, 170 average, hoping to edge that average up in the next month to secure a 170+ on test day.

4.0 UGPA, want to be in NYC for law school.

Currently focusing on ridding myself of any problems with RC, which is my most problematic area. -0 to -3 on LR, foolproof level on LG. Working on mental discipline/simulating test-taking endurance and timing test-taking techniques.

Taking 3 PTs/wk (67-71, 81, 85-86 left), 25 hours min of studying/wk. Plus a full time grad student in the MA region.

What would you rec I concentrate on to make that last bump and secure my knowledge in this last month?

Many thanks in adv.

Would so love to join but living in the MENA region and 4am is a bit mad for me. Any chance these times change in the future?

Awesome, thanks so much! I've done most all of the 1-30 range, and not too too scared, but definitely curious about trends-- especially as I'm registered for July so there's already a large element of uncertainty.

Thanks again, appreciate your reply.

Current LGs

Hi all!

So I just finished PT 79 & 80, which each had the weird misc games. In one of the videos, JY mentions that these weird ones are now pretty typical.

What test # are we on now? 90-something? And are these misc games still common to see in each test? (I don’t have the Ultimate package, so will just know the 10 Actuals up to 81 situation)

Many thanks.

"I really struggle with my variance on RC and frequently go anywhere between -2 to -7. It is the only section that I experience this kind of variance and it’s incredibly frustrating. At this point RC pretty much completely determines whether I end up at -168 or -172 and knowing that it almost always comes down to the RC section makes me that much more nervous for it." - @eugenewrotethis726

I identify with this so so much. And og post, I felt the saem exact way about this exam. I went -0 LG, -1 and -3 LR, then -5 on this RC section and it brought me down to a 172. Time isn't a problem for me.

BRing now, and what I've been doing review wise for RC is taking my time with the passages, and writing out the purpose/MP of each paragraphs, the whole passage's connectness/structure, MP, Purpose, Tone, and various viewpoints mentioned/at task. Then I retake the questions without looking at my og answers.

I haven't seen wild wild improvement, but I think it's because, like you, I'm now self-conscious abt my RC sections and my mental clarity becomes a big factor and frazzed with the impetus to perform as I'm concentrating on improving this section.

I'm going to keep doing the aforementioned BR strategy (as I mostly always go 100% or only miss 1 or 2 when I do so), and hopefully those habits burn into my modus operandi and show up on test day. And I'm going to try to chill abt RC in general. I've had days where I go -0, days where I don't. But I'm capable of 0, so I'mma just be easyyy.

Best of luck to you (and hmu if you wanna bounce questions ever, bc it sounds like we're in similar positions).

Will there be any strategical advantage to taking the test in July and October in terms of the scoring curve? I'm imagining that the median score will be a little lower than usual...

Will you explain this? I don't fully understand the curve. And so you do think the test will be to our adv?

First of all, amazing job! I cannot seem to get past the 170 average test score/ BR 175+ (so if you have any wisdom for me on what allowed you to push past that pt, I would be so grateful-- especially for RC, which busts up my score. For instance, on PT 79 yesterday I went -3 on LG/LR and then -5 on RC).

I imagine that you are finishing with quite a bit of time left at the end, so my small advice would be to spend some time scanning questions #13-20 and reviewing the language of the stim. If you are confident in your reasoning (and you likely have a great intuitive sense by now), it may be that a small detail or eeriness in the question itself is what is ultimately difficult. More detail on why you're missing those questions should be informative as to what will be the best fix, but that would be my suggestion if it feels like it's a miss outta left field each time.

@drbrown2259 Thank you so much!! I so appreciate you sharing all of your insights. As mentioned, I didn't mean to inquire about your numbers to discount your wisdom-- it has already influenced my study techniques. I am going to be markedly more lenient on myself about sheer amount of PTs attempted (per week), and much more diligent about the review. I created a whole google sheet for LR question diagramming/dissecting for BR (for the 70% more difficult LR misses I make). Hopefully this practice helps me to feel that the "difficult" questions are nothing more monstrous than the first 10 in the section.

Thank you--- sooo much. For this advice and time you've taken to write it out/share/etc. It is appreciated. Best of luck to you!

Two other small questions----

In using PTs PTs 1-35, do you feel like you're not focusing on the more recent types of questions which are more prevalent in PTs 70-on? And what are PTs A, B, C/ how can I have them?

And-- give me the logistics of filming yourself? I'm working with an iphone 5. What is your filming position, etc.?

@drbrown2259 Wow, thank you thank you thank you. This is all so so helpful. I will definitely be integrating a lot of these tips and methods pertaining to review, and think you're on the mark 110% about quality > quantity.

Unfortunately, I only have the Starter 7Sage and have been doing my PTs straight in the 10 Actuals books (72-81 underway currently, next is 62-71). I am living in the MENA region, and don't have access to printers/scanners, so I haven't been able to get clean copies of the PTs/ their sections for BR. I typically just go over everything on the already-marked/underlined/circled questions. Which likely isn't great for true BR, because it contorts my thinking to argue with and/or against my previous insights/instincts. Unlike how you recommended "looking at the questions from a different point of view," unfortunately.. Anything you would recommend, then, with my situation?

If you don't mind sharing, what are your scores like? Not that my reception of your (incredible) advice changes based on the numbers, but curiosity is a killer. :)

Thank you soo much for your comment! This is really helpful.

In response to your question about BR, I got through all of the questions, and rework the ones that were hard. Some I circled while taking the PT, others not. Should I be completely re-taking, blank, the test again as a BR? I've seen and gone through many variations of BR, but I think the one JY advocates does attend, at least in some detail, to each question.

I do have a question for you, because your drilling practices seem great. Are you using clean sections for RC and LR as you take timed sections and review thoroughly?

And do you have any advice for nailing those 5 star questions? Some of them I answer no problem, but nevertheless the ones I am getting wrong (for example, on PT 77, which I just graded) are only 5 star ones.

Okay, so technique technique technique it's been, and sometimes I'm finishing LR sections with 7 minutes to spare, and still around 168. PLUS RC is misery lately, and I don't feel I ever finish with more than 2 minutes left at the end.

LG foolproof is down. The LR misses are generally questions with a 5/5 star difficulty. RC varies.

Any further advice?
