First law school acceptance for LSAT retaker!

For those 7Sagers taking the February LSAT, I just want to encourage you to stay strong and never let go of your dream. I'm 57 and will be retaking the LSAT in February as my prior performances in September and December were well below par, but in the meantime today I received my first law school acceptance ahead of the February re-re-take! I didn't even know that any law school would be reviewing my application prior to the February test score being available! Better still, UC Irvine is right up there among my top choices, so I'm thrilled. Perhaps with this acceptance in hand, nerves won't get the better of me on test day and I can help my chances of a healthy scholarship :-) Truly, fellow 7Sagers, if this dream can come true for me with persistence, it can happen for you too (and thanks to 7Sage for all that I've learned and enjoyed learning with you!).

Do any other LSAT retakers have a tale of encouragement to share?

@ I'm doing the Law School Prep course and am definitely learning and developing skills. As @ says, you can go to the site and get a good idea of the course. I don't find it as finished/polished yet as the LSAT prep course and there's virtually no discussion of or response to posted questions or comments, which is a shame and can be frustrating (to me, at least).

That said I'm finding it more than worth it -- it's given me a great way of evaluating where I am right now and the long road to where I need to get if I'm to stand a chance of getting a strong GPA in my 1L year. I really believe I'll be landing on the ground running and be in a much more competitive position for top grades if I complete the course and take all the advice (including pre-studying the black letter law) by the time the mid-August start date comes round!

@ @ Thanks for this great article. Much of the study approach content is exactly in line with what Larry (forcefully!) recommends in 7Sage's Law School Prep course.

As a 0L I am already practicing saying no for when I'm approached to join clubs, etc. On yesterday's Earth Day Google doodle quiz I came out as a giant squid and that's me - tentacles into everything. I must resist and stay focused on the goal of best possible 1L GPA!

Thanks for all your comments! I'll give them serious consideration in weighing up my final choice once I hear the outcome of all my applications. @ Yes, I have the funds to cover the full cost of law school, but of course if I don't have to spend this, that would be great! I'll see how the offers pan out. Thank you!!

Thanks for your comments, @! I'm now strongly veering towards UCI Law - both my daughters are there and are having great experiences. The faculty I've met or observed teaching have been wonderful - so dynamic they got me interested in topics I hadn't anticipated ever finding interesting! Also, the admitted students I met there were interesting in diverse ways and had a different vibe to them than at other admitted student events I've attended. Soooo -- guess this all points to UCI Law being a good match for me :-D

Maybe see you at UCI Law in a year's time!

Best wishes for the next cycle, @! There's nothing modest about my career goals so I'm looking at external scholarships and a part time job to boost my $. I can afford to pay my way through law school - just have to convince my husband that it's worth me spending now to reap bigger benefits later (hopefully)!

Congrats again, @! I know when I received my first law school acceptance, it was a great relief. I knew then that yes, my dream (aged 57!) really was going to come true. Now I'm facing hard decision making related to my multiple offers and I expect you'll be faced with the same!

Thanks, @! Yes, I received some $ from UCI though not the full ride I was offered from another (lower ranked) SoCal school...

I'm curious -- do you know which law school you'll be going to? I'm wondering if I'll come across other 7Sagers if I go to UCI!

law school advice, please!

Please could you share your advice related to law school choices? I most likely want to work in SoCal after graduation and am accepted at UC Irvine, but because of rankings should I go with WashULaw in St. Louis instead? Personally I'm really impressed with Irvine going straight in at #30 and I love the feel of the place and community.

Also, I'm wait listed for Northwestern's accelerated JD program. Should I hold out as long as possible in case a slot opens up?

Thoughts?? -- Many thanks!

@ Yes, I watch How to Get Away with Murder and really got into it though it becomes progressively disturbing - I'll just say "unethical practices" so as not to give the story line away! Hope you find time to watch it.

I've applied to a bunch of the same Californian schools too! I'm admitted to UC Irvine, UC Hastings, and Chapman, so far, and am waiting on others (as well as a few favorites in DC and VA). I prefer SoCal to North, so will likely pull out of UC Hastings. As I intend to go into public interest law, I'm wondering how critical law school ranking is for me -- as background, I'm 57 and have lots of work experience and various degrees (MD PhD MSEd). Any thoughts? Full scholarship offers are attracting me :) but I don't want to be short-sighted.

Just like @ says. Straight onto the next section.

I'm signing up for 7Sage's Law School Prep course now that my LSAT prep days are over. The 7Sage LSAT course was so good and I've enjoyed this online community so much, I feel confident I'll learn a whole lot - and enjoy doing so - on the law school prep course. Anyone thinking of doing likewise? Would be great to go forth with some familiar 7Sagers!!!

Post-LSAT need for adjustment?!

Is anyone else whose LSAT days are over feeling a bit rudderless after their final test? I'm flipping through books I put off reading because of LSAT study but can't settle to start one, am flitting from one thing to another, and am basically lacking direction! I thought it would be straight up celebrating and relaxation but somehow I'm in a zombie-like state of withdrawal following the months of intensive study and knowing what my top priority was every moment of my life outside of work. I know I'll adjust but it's like some sort of mega adjustment today - I feel rudderless!

Anyone else experiencing a weird post-LSAT mental state? Is it just me??

"...they completed an intensive, three-month, 100-hour LSAT preparation course." 100 hours in 3 months?! From the discussion posts, I think a lot of us put in a significantly greater time commitment than that. How does that match others' experiences? Maybe they should scan 7Sagers' brains to see the maximum effect :)

February test done!

Well, LSAT over and today was my last LSAT day EVER as I've already been accepted to what is probably my #1 law school choice, taking all factors into consideration. Remembering the LSAC/7Sage rules of confidentiality, how did it go for fellow 7Sagers? I felt it went okay though it will make a difference which turns out to be the experimental section as one went better for me than the other. Cockroaches in my hotel room last night didn't help me get a relaxed night's sleep but the test center did a really good job - efficient and pleasant. Hope you all did yourself proud :-)

Tips for self-care on test day

Hey everyone -- you've all been such awesome buddies as 7Sagers I thought I'd recommend something from my personal LSAT experience -- take headache meds or whatever you might need along those lines with you on test day.

In September I had a cold as I flew into Florida the day before the LSAT from where I live in Costa Rica and thanks to the pressure changes during the flight my cold erupted and I developed the most awful sinus headache during the LSAT and had no meds on me. So this time I'm flying into Florida tomorrow - a day earlier - in case anything needs to settle, and I'll have meds on me on test day just in case. Hopefully most of you are very local to a LSAT center but I thought I'd mention this in case it might be a useful heads up to someone!

Any other tips to share?

Best wishes to all you fellow hard workers and dreamers for Saturday! I'm really going to miss the 7Sage camaraderie.

St. Thomas University, Miami Gardens/Fort Lauderdale, runs the LSAT very efficiently and they're pleasant too. The LSAT is run in two lecture halls with each row having a continuous strip of desktop so lots of room. Lefties like me are put in a row of their own, and everyone is spaced out well so no issues laying things out the way you like.

Personally I would not recommend Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta.

@ Dean Okay, I'll be an outlier here. I reckon you could get into a strong school with your score, GPA, and background, and then you could stop torturing yourself. Just get on with applying so you don't miss more deadlines cos they're passing by!

If you perform among the top tier of students at a strong school, there will be really good job opportunities for you. I too have suffered from the trauma of three weird and frustrating LSATs (may still need therapy!) but have decided I'm definitely starting law school this year and already have very respectable acceptances to choose from.

Glad to hear you're planning on submitting some applications! Will want to know how they go and I wish you the best.

P.S. Isn't there a rule that you can't take the LSAT more than 3 times within a 2-year period? Would you have to wait till December 2015 to even be allowed to take the LSAT again? I'm not sure but worth checking and sorry if I'm mistaken.

Absolutely agree! We will all end up going somewhere great and will make the most of it. I'm definitely headed to law school this summer or fall - it'll just take a few more weeks to decide where exactly. Keep your eye on the prize, everyone :)

So weird! I just received a law school acceptance!! Do law schools get the result that fraction sooner or is this just coincidence and they didn't wait for my Feb. LSAT score? (I've taken the test before) Regardless, I'm grateful and still focused on the gray!!!!
