After you've selected your answer choice, try rebutting your statement with the premise and conclusion.

So the sociologist is arguing with me and If I choose A as my response " Yeah but, Some people who have pets are happier than most people who do not "

He can easily refute by repeating his premise and conclusion " Yes that's great for that group of people. But research shows MOST of the people who have pets are less happy than most of the people who do not. And after all, I want people to be as happy as possible....if you want to be as happy as possible you should consider NOT having the pet".

And just like that he wins the argument.
