i just had to deal with this and am currently still studying for my 2nd round at the LSAT! First, much love to you! It's so hard to deal with parents constantly griping like that. I still get it every day, lol, now I just kind of make a mockery of it, so they've gotten the point that it doesn't affect me. I scored really low my first time too, so the whole "maybe it's not your thing" mantra is definitely one I've heard before as well. Just like you, i have to start supporting them, but i'm currently doing Teach For America whilst studying and the income from that has kept them pretty okayish/happy with my decision to retake. SO is there a job or something that you're doing? or are you just studying? I ask because, while beneficial to study full time, it can be so hard to convince parents that it's worth when you're not doing anything else. Maybe a part time gig would help? Volunteer position you could take up? Also, for the depression, what really helped me was exercise, therapy, and taking a break whenever I needed it. Of course, parents saw I wasn't studying and then started to nag again lol! I just say you do what's best for YOU, especially when it comes to such a big decision and investment for your future. Don't let your parents bring you down. Again, much love and know i've been in the same situation as you before!

hi there!! I would say always try to get lor's. I know that it's not required for your school, but they can only help (provided they're personal and not ultra-generic). I completely understand where you're at with your employer, so I ask, do you volunteer anywhere? Do any of your college profs remember you enough to write a letter? Imho, it would be best to get one. if anything, you can always opt not assign it to that USD's app!

@ thanks for your reply!! That all makes a lot of sense.. I will take your advice and do drills/ slow down on those last few.. I also haven't gotten up to the more recent PT's yet, so this could change, but will definitely slow down. I need those curve breaker questions!! thanks again!

Keep missing early 20's questions in LR

Hi y'all!

I hope y'all can give me some advice. I have done several practice timed sections, untimed sections, and PT's and I have noticed a pattern when I look back at my scantrons. I have been consistently missing the early 20's questions in any LR section!! For example, I will nearly always miss questions from 19-25, and unfortunately, sometimes I just miss all of those.. The rest of LR has been going pretty good. occasionally, I'll miss maybe one question before #19 but I catch it during BR and it's actually a silly mistake.. After that, it's just awful. It's not a timing issue either, as I have been doing this timing strategy: 15 mins for questions 1-15 so I have approx one minute per question, then I can take up to two mins per question on question 16 and after. Generally, i don't use that much time, but it's nice to have that cushion and the timing strategy really works for me! Is there something I am missing about these questions? Are they the hardest of the section? During BR, I can usually get them right my second go, but some of them have left me stumped. so I watch JY's videos, and then I get it. I have also checked Q types and i can deff say it's not a specific Q type (besides MSS and SA... those are my weaknesses annoyingly). I also do skip Q's and they are almost always 1-2 of this range of questions. At this point, I have been missing 5 or 6 on both my LR sections in JUST THESE QUESTIONS which is driving me up the walls!

TL;DR: is there something special about the 19-25 questions in an LR section? How do I fix this strange problem of mine? Should i switch up my timing method? Am I overthinking these last few questions and thus costing myself points?

I chose C, because I think I made an over inference (lol?) and inferred that the boxes didn't have enough space not necessarily because they're smaller, but because they're so overcrowded with eggs.

thinking ahead? (re:transcripts)

Hi all,

I have a question. I am applying to law school this fall, but am wanting to take some courses as a visiting student at Columbia's MSW program in Spring of 2018. Would I still have to send those transcripts to LSAC/CAS even if I am applying in the fall and will be completely done with applications by December of 2017? I checked online and it said I should send all transcripts, but is the best thing to do just call and ask the schools?

My only concern is risking looking like I don't know what I want to do if I take some MSW courses... the reason being for, honestly, just academic pleasure. I am really interested in social work.

Thanks y'all,

any website recs for trying to find a personal tutor?

Hi y'all,

I am looking to hire a personal tutor, and yes I've saved up for it because I know it'll be pricey, but does anyone have any ideas on reliable websites to use to find tutors in your area? Or does everyone who gets a tutor just kinda use craigslist lol?

Thanks in advance!

LSAT Vocab!?

Hey y'all,

sorry if this was an already started discussion, but do y'all have any recommendations on ways to study up on common vocabulary on the LSAT? What I mean by common vocab are essentially just long words that LSAT writers like to use often that they know could throw off test takers? I haven't gotten too far in my course just yet, but I couldn't find anything for it in the curriculum. I know that reading helps, and I do read a lot, but I've missed quite a bit of questions because I won't understand one word in the AC. I thought I'd ask!

Thanks y'all!

yo-yo scoring on PT :(

Hey all,

i am having trouble. I have been PT-ing for 4 weeks not, consistently scoring in upper 160's, but sometimes i dip down to low 160's. never lower then that, but I also have not broken 170 yet, i am just stuck in the 160's. i am upset because today I scored a 160, after scoring a 165 two nights before. My BR scores are ridiculously high, somewhere like 172-177 generally. I'm not sure what to do and getting ridiculously discouraged because of today's PT score. I do take breaks, I am healthy when it comes to studying so I know it's not my method. But, I posted before and someone said that I am missing those curve breaker questions so i started to slow down in my sections, but I find that i am scoring lower now? thoughts or suggestions on how to actually reach my BR score? or just stop yo-yoing with my score? I want to have a consistent PT average to accurately predict where I am going to score at on test day.

thanks!

what tripped me up was the inclusion of "certain strains of bacteria" as "living organisms"... i think i got a bit too cautious here. i just picked E and skipped pretty much..

i feel you on not feeling like doing enough if you're taking breaks, that's why when I do take breaks, I generally still do a bit of LSAT work that's not completely question and answer. This might mean going back to the CC and doing the logic translation quizzes, or going over my flash cards of the 19 common flaws, or going over the valid and invalid argument forms.. I do this for maybe a week or maybe just 1-2 days, and when I do timed sections or PT again, I find that even just doing that ends up getting me points on questions I would have otherwised missed had I not stopped and did some maintenance on my skills. This way, I am comfortable with taking breaks because i feel like i am still doing work, but i am not burning out because i am in a cycle of PT, BR, REVIEW, PT, BR, REVIEW.

Thank you!!! I realized what I said was quite confusing, but yes. I want to move onto the different LR/RC cc lessons while taking my time on LG. Omg LG are so hard to me, even the simple sequencing games :( but yeah trying to just take my time with it so that I can really work quickly through games, I just don't want to be so behind on LR/RC as well

Okay to move on but keep coming back to LG?

Hey y'all! So I'm retaking in September of 2017. The last time I took in December 2015. I've been studying since Augustus of 2016. Back then, I really should not have tested as I was weak in all three sections. Now, LG I want to take slowly as I master them. However, I really think I'm getting a bit too far behind since I been doing and redoing the LG intro lessons again and again for like two to three weeks now. I was wondering if it would be ok if I moved on in the curriculum for the LR and RC sections and just kept coming back to the lg lessons, basically moving a lot slower on just LG? Or is there intention in the way the curriculum was scheduled and I should just stick to it no matter how long it takes for me to get LG? I know that the fundamental concepts behind each section is the same so I should really be alright no matter which way I go, but I'm also a full time teacher so it's getting harder and harder to schedule time to study and I don't want to fall so behind that I don't even get to the other LR types and RC practices.

Also fir what it's worth from advice on this board I went ahead and purchased the lsat trainer! I'm hoping to start working through that to complement 7Sage soon!

Thanks in advance!

@ thank you for that!! I haven't been writing out my BR rationalization but I've been speaking it out to myself. Perhaps writing will help it more than anything. The LSAT trainer looks interesting, but it's a bit expensive so that's why I didn't shell out the money for it just yet. I'll look into it for sure! Thanks for the tips!

How to get LR completely down?

Hi friends!

So i've been working way through the curriculum and LR is my worst by far. I am actually alright in the other two areas. I just want to know, what can I do to gain fluency in LR? Just drill? I try going over the core curriculum, but I find myself not really gaining anything from it.. It's not a specific question type either, like some MBT I'll be okay on and some I'll just end up missing five in a row. I'm not sure what to do to make LR a strength for me? Do y'all know of any resources or books that I could get and work through? I haven't used anything but 7sage.

LoR-- re-ask?

Hey Y'all!

I applied for admission into law school this past fall, and though I got in somewhere, I decided not to go and do TFA instead, as this was the most financially smart decision for me.

Well, anyways, I had two amazing LoR's from my college professors on my application and I was wondering if I my LSAC file will keep those letters for this year when I apply? or should i ask those writers to simply submit them again? My only issue with asking them again is I have tried to email both of my writers just to keep in touch, but I have not heard a response back...lol.. I am sure they are busy..

Thanks in advance!
