If you have a friend studying for this test, and they're struggling with S->N / contrapositives, show them this question.
STIM: Whoever is kind is loved by somebody or other, (K -> Lbs) and whoever loves anyone is happy (La -> H). It follows that whoever is kind is happy (K -> H).
We now have:
Premises
1) K -> Lbs
2) La -> H
Conclusion
1) K -> H
Your job is to make the jump from K -> Lbs ... La -> H
If this was a question in the 1-10ish range, it would simply give you Lbs -> La, so you can infer K -> Lbs -> La -> H, thus chaining K -> H.
However, the correct answer gives you /La -> /Lbs.
Contrapositive of /La -> /Lbs is lbs -> La.
Finally, giving you K -> Lbs -> La -> H.
So very easy when you have the time to map out the conditionals, but can be flustering when strapped for time.
Really good question for teaching/learning conditionals in a simple setting (no red herrings, white noise, etc.), with one added twist (giving you the contrapositive in the answer)!
So we're supposed to assume:
1) Watching oneself = Watching one's twin
2) Effect of watching oneself (now assumed analogous with watching one's twin) exercise = Effect of watching oneself read
Feel like these are the kind of assumptions you generally get punished for. Nevertheless, I'd recommend looking up other sources for clarification on this question. No sense dwelling on it. It's frustrating, but this is certainly a curve-breaker question; one where you need to be in the head of the test-maker.
