Timing help on RC

Hi y'all.

So first to start im currently scoring a 1587-161, the score im aiming for is a 161 on my LSAT. LR and RC seem to be my worst sections, and since I've read LR is the most learnable (between LR and RC) I focused on improving my LR score. Im still missing about 8-15 questions in my RC section and most of it has to do with timing. I do much better untimed, and I've timed myself before on my phone and im able to do a RC passage under 35 minutes, im just not sure what's going on when I actually take it timed and can see the time.

Any advice would be helpful as I've tried literally everything I've read. Something to note is that I have horrible test anxiety (to the point where I've thrown up during exams) but unfortunately couldn't get an accommodation on time for the march exam.

@ I definitely agree- and my goal isn't to get a 170 so I guess you're right in that I need to focus on my own goal instead of being concerned about how high everyone else is scoring. I've identified what questions im missing a majority of- so maybe its time I go back and review lessons on those exact types of questions. I appreciate it. Goodluck to you as well.

@ Thank you so much for the advice and you're totally right- my potential is not determined by an exam so I definitely need to step out of that mindset. Im going to do some drilling of LR sections and try to focus on identifying the conclusion of those arguments. I dont necessarily think about the conclusion or the structure too much when I do LR questions so that may be where my flaw is in LR.

I appreciate the help and advice it means a lot to me.

Advice for Jan LSAT

Hi everyone,

I need some advice on the upcoming Jan LSAT. I constantly read stories on here of people scoring 170+ and I feel like such a failure because I am barely scoring within the 160's. I started off with a diagnostic of 145 and have improved a bit since then but my scores fluctuate between a 154-160. (This is very embarrassing to even admit on here). Im only missing 1-2 questions on my logic games, but I am having a hard time with LR and RC. I think the best chance of me getting my score up would probably be to focus on LR because its the most learnable. I dont want to burn myself out by the day I actually take my exam, but does anyone have any tips that I could use to get my LR score up? I don't know if its lawgic I should focus on or what, because I really am just missing a wide range of LR questions. Any advice would be super helpful and much appreciated. (Its probably important to note I struggle a lot with timing. I have bad test anxiety)

How can we assume the driver isn't listening to both sides of the conversation? We just have to make that assumption?

@ thank you so much!! I was SO confused and could not figure out for the life of me how many sections were actually going to be graded. You worded it perfectly!

This feels like a stupid question

Hi, I am extremely confused on how the LSAT is graded, I've been studying for over a year now and can not figure it out. If one section is "experimental" and is "ungraded" why are we being graded out of all four sections on these prep tests? Is that the same way we'll be graded when taking the actual exam? Im just confused what the purpose of the experimental section is if we get graded on it as well.

I have no idea how to improve my LR score

Hi everyone!

I am having a lot of trouble with my logic reasoning section. I usually only miss 1-4 questions on LR and RC really depends, but my LR is always my most missed section missing around 10-14 questions. I really don't know what to focus on. I've done the core lessons and almost all of the lessons on LR, and im just not sure how else to improve my score in this section and im starting to feel like a lost cause. Is there any recommendations or tips anyone use to improve in this section? I take the march LSAT so I just want some tips and tricks to help me before that exam.

Are you blind reviewing? Blind reviewing is a good way to see if you actually know the material or if you're just having a timing problem. If you're getting more questions correct during your BR then you're probably just struggling with timing and just need to keep practicing, if you're not improving in your BR then I would suggest reviewing some of the core lessons. Goodluck!

For b wouldn't we have to assume that they had no access to wood either? I don't see how it weakens the argument. #help (Added by Admin)

I only take one exam a week and I plan to keep doing that until the August exam (I do work full time so realistically I can only take one per week). I know some people suggest to doing more but personally I think BR and understanding why I got the questions wrong is much more important and that usually takes me around 2 days. A day to blind review the whole exam and a day to review all my missed answers, the rest of the week I do a lot of drilling and BR those. Goodluck!

@ thank you for the vote of confidence!! I personally didn't even get to make a real game board for the last game- and thats never happened to me, so im not feeling too great about the section. You're right though- until I get my score I never know how it went, so I'm just gonna wait and see how it went.

@ It was all of the inferences in the game that threw me off. I would think I was doing a fairly decent job at making all my inferences and then I got to the third game and got a question and thought"well none of these answer choices go hand in hand with my game boards" and I started to panic when I realized that all the inferences I made were probably wrong in that game set. It caused me to panic and didn't even really get to make a real game board for the last game- which never happens. I always get finish my LG with more time. Im already planning to retake I just need to make sure im more prepared in case my LG goes the same route next time. Thanks for the insight!

Am I the only one who found LG section hard? I normally miss -2 on my LG but I think I probably missed a lot more on this exam. I was hoping it was going to be an experimental section and the LG would repeat and I feel like this threw me off for the rest of the exam. Not sure if it was just my nerves or if the LG section was just difficult?

The word policy is throwing me off. I never felt like Flynn was advocating for a policy? Can someone help me understand this??

Hi,

Kind of just wondering the question above. I really want to take a full exam today, but I think if I bomb it/score lower than I have been that might mess with my head a bit. Im wondering if maybe I should just do four random sections from random PT's so that way I don't actually get a 'score' so it can't mess with my head. Any advice? Not sure if im just gonna burn myself out for the exam on Saturday.

I stimulate modern. If you're someone that gets mental fatigue easily I would still stimulate modern and drill a random section as your 'experimental.' I think stimulating modern is better for me because LR is the section I've been trying to improve in so its nice to have lots of LR to drill (since I always skip the second LR section when stimulating modern).

@ I did not think about that, thats a good idea. I didn't want to stimulate "flex" because I wanted to see how the actual exam would feel, but I also wanted to see what my score would be without that last section. Thank you for the suggestion!

My reasoning in why D is wrong is because the answer choice says only if each of the commission members had agreed would the chairperson be justified, but why does EACH commission member have to agree? The stimulus is saying that the chairperson was not justified because he didn't consult ANY member. The reason why I ultimately picked A, and maybe my reasoning was off, was because A says the chairperson would have been justified if MOST members had consented. The stimulus never said anything about ALL people needing to be consulted.

@ Thank you! You're definitely right, I think I've noticed improvements in my RC score when I practice LR because the questions stems are sort of similar.

@ I think the advice about skipping on paragraph is a good idea, not that I would 'skip' a whole paragraph but maybe spending less time on one/giving less focus to one would be useful. I often look at the clock and fear im running out of time to get through all of the passages/questions. Thank you

@ Thats great advice, especially the tip on not spending more than 2+ on a question. I feel like I do that often and it ends up messing me up in the end. Thank you for the advice. Definitely gonna try to implement that advice when drilling.
