Question about LSAC GPA

I have been waiting for my LSAC GPA. I never get an email informing me that it has been completed. But I just log in to my LSAC account, and when I click on “academic summary report”, I saw that I have a transcript analysis and a “summary “ at the end, with a “degree(summary) gpa”. Is that the so-called LSAC GPA?

Thank you in advance!

Someone’s coughing

When I was taking the September LSAT, there was one guy in the room that kept making this periodic noise of coughing-wincing. It wasn’t loud but was certainly distracting and he had been making that noise for quite a while.

I’m afraid that during the November LSAT, the chance of this happening will be higher since it’s cold now and many people might get sick but still come to the test. Have you guys encountered a similar situation like this and how did you manage to overcome the distractions and focus on the test instead?

TIA!!!

Yes. Sometimes the two overlap. You can think about it this way: if you want to buy a lollipop that costs $50, having $49 in your wallet is necessary, but not sufficient. Having $50 will be necessary AND sufficient. Having $51 will be sufficient, but no longer necessary. Something like that.

Hi I was stuck in 159 for a while too and I found the easiest way to break in the 160s is to nail the LG. Foolproof all games from 1-35, and aim to get 0/-1 on PTs , then ultimately on test day. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. If I may ask, have you taken the LSAT and what was your score? Also, if you had any difficulties with RC or LR, what methods/study routines did you find most helpful? I currently have less than a month to increase my score and hoping to find the most efficient way to do so.

Yes I took the real thing many times. Last cycle I got two identical scores in the high 150s, it was painful to see no improvement. For July I made a big jump to 164. I was happy with my score but also decided to retake in October for scholarship reasons. What I did differently before July was to foolproof+BR LG meticulously, also BR thoroughly for LR and RC. I did less PTs but spent more time BRing and I also tried to talk about the stimulus and why each wrong answer choices are wrong (no study partner so I talked to myself). I also made sure to use PTs from 70-80s because the LR and RC are much harder for me than those from the old tests. I was also able to fall asleep the night before the test for the first time and that definitely helped too (the key for me to overcome the anxiety is to realize that this test and what school I get into is NOT the most important things in my life).

You have only one month left so I'd prioritize LG since it's the easiest to improve. For LR my best advice is to BR. Check out Manhattan prep's LR explanations (free) and supplementing it with JY's. RC is my worst section too and I have no idea how I scored in that section in July but I found LSAT trainer and Manhattan prep's RC advice to be very helpful. Also keeping up with time markers (ex. finish two passages by 16 mins or so) helped me finish the section, too.

Hope this helps!

I started to feel sick on Wednesday and took that day off but last night I didn’t sleep well and I’m feeling really fatigue when drilling LG now..I took might&day quil. My plan was to review one more RC passage and redo a LR section that I thought was hard.. but I’m not sure if that’s a good move now. I’m also afraid to just go to sleep now and end up not being able to fall asleep tonight ... I really want to take the test and I hit my target score range last week T_T

Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Thank you for your explanation. I’m still confused by this question though.

I chose C because I thought negating the necessary condition would destroy the conclusion, but I do realize that the sufficient condition doesn’t match the stimulus.

Also I can’t see why E is right because I thought the stimulus assume if the cause is not natural then the cause is human activity, while E seems to just talk about how the author assumes that natural cause has a seven-day cycle, and seems like it doesn’t address the gap between premise 2 and the conclusion. Is it actually addressing the gap between premise 1 and premise 2 (intermediate conclusion)?

What’s your warm up routine?

I’m a slow starter and I found that if I don’t do some warm up questions before a PT I won’t be able to get to the last 5-6 questions of the first section. My warm up routine has been: one game (doesn’t have to be new), 10 LR questions (new), and 1 set of RC passage + questions (new). I time myself when I warm up. I found that except for LG, doing old questions just won’t warm me up the same way new questions do.

This routine is enough to warm me up but the whole thing can take me almost 40 minutes depending on how groggy I am in the morning and can eat up my energy during the actual test. I read some old threads and saw ppl doing just games and a few LR questions. But I want to be prepared if the first section happens to be RC(!!!).

I’m wondering what worked for you guys? Any info will be much appreciated!

LR video explanations

Hi I'm new to this forum.

I was wondering if the starter package provides video explanations for LR and RC? If so, which PTs?

Thanks in advance!

When to thank recommender

LSAC notified me that one of my recommenders has submitted his LOR few days ago. Should I write that professor a thank you note right now or wait until I know the admission results? I kinda want to thank him now but don’t want to seem too kiss-assy either .. any advice?

Thank you for your encouragement! I needed this! I’m just having a cold feet seeing so many people complaining how hard the July test was. But I’m over that now. I feel very relaxed now after thinking through this decision and I think I’m ready :)

Thank you for your advice! I’m just worried about potentially having the fourth cancel. But I guess three cancels vs four cancels are not that different? I hope I will show improvement from last time and won’t have to cancel! I will be prepping for October while waiting for the score, too. We got this!

Should I take the July LSAT this weekend?

My test is rescheduled to this weekend. I have two cancels on my file already, and two 15x from January and March. My goal is 165+. Here is my recent five PT scores and BR scores:

6/7: PT 63 (retake) 163, BR 172

6/18: PT 71 (retake) 167, BR 173

6/26: PT 78 (retake) 166, BR 175

7/3: PT 79 (retake) 169, BR 180

7/17: PT 87 163, BR 176

I have exhausted all recent PTs numbered 40 and forward. PT 63 I took and reviewed two years ago, PT 71, 78, 79 I took and reviewed a year ago. So those scores are probably inflated. PT 87 probably is the most representative of my current ability but I'm worried about the "test day toll". I haven't figured out a way to close that BR gap and hearing how difficult July test is makes me doubt if I should sit for the test this weekend. I will keep any score above 158 but if I get 158 again, or lower, I'm inclined to cancel and retake for free in October. However, I already have two cancels on my file so I'm not sure adding one cancel just for the free retake is worth it. Does the third cancel look worse or a lower/same score?

Also, I'm not sure if I will ever be able to figure out how to close that BR gap. I started BR only on 6/7 but I have been studying for the test for two years. I feel so exhausted and just want to be done with it. My family is upset that I haven't been able to move on with my life because of this test, too.

Mark up scantron sheet

For January LSAT, I marked up skipped questions with a small “s” next to the question number, and circled /triangled the question numbers I wanted to come back later on the scantron sheet. I didn’t erase those marks. Would that have effected how the machine read my score?

Has anyone ever done the same thing like me on a disclosed test?

Should I apply now or just retake?

My January score is 15x,Canceled scores for all my prior attempts. LSAC GPA 3.5x. International student but have a bachelor’s and master’(GPA3.73) from the US.

My husband works in NY so I really hope to get in Fordham this year. But based on my stats I’m afraid I don’t have much chance. Should I just apply for Fordham now and some other target (Cardozo) and safeties (Brooklyn,Touro ) to get a sense of how admission officers view me, and retake in March ?

Or should I just retake and not apply to anywhere?

My hubby suggests me apply to WUSTL to get a sense, too. Is there any point for me to do that? I’m obviously below their bottoms .

A bit about my LSAT situation: I have been studying since June 2017. English is not my first language and I burned a lot of PTs untimed. Prior to January LSAT my PT scores in December were: 164,168,171, (but they’re very old PTs) then my husband had to relocate so I spent a lot of time packing/cleaning/ watching my 2 yr old during holidays. And when I resumed to prep again in January my PT score dropped : 159, then 164 the week before test (these are recent PTs btw), but the week before test my son got very sick so I had to take care of him full time with very limited time studying, and I got sick on the test day. So I definitely think I can do better, but I also burned out all the new PTs and most of the old PTs, too.

Please give me some advice on what to do next! Thank you!

I think the general consensus is that a better LSAT score gives you more advantage than applying early.

I’d wait until I know what my score is.

GPA 3.492...

I'm ordering my CAS report and my cumulative GPA is 3.492...a very annoying number. Should I choose the category of 3.5-3.74 or 3.0-3.49? I really want to choose the first one haha but don't know if I really belong there:(

Will choosing either one have any advantage/disadvantage?

Admission Consulting

Hi 7sagers,

I was wondering if it looks bad to reapply next year with the same addendums and DS and PS?

I’m debating whether to pay for admission consultanting service (7sage/Spivey/PowerScore) for this cycle, which is already late, or do the best I can on my own for this cycle and wait to hire them for the next cycle when I have a better chance overall.

If I can reuse the material for next cycle, then I suppose hiring them for this cycle would be worth it since that way I can give both cycle a much better shot, right? (Hiring them for both cycles is not an option for me since their service costs 3k+).

I have a mediocre GPA 3.5ish, three cancels for the LSAT and waiting for the January score.

Some feedback would be highly appreciated!

If you have experience working with any of these consulting services above, please share your experience or PM me!

Thank you in advance!

You can call the admission to ask. The school I spoke to said the first thing they do to a reapplicant is to pull out the old application and compare it with the new. And they expect to see a updated personal statement.

They want to see you put some effort to it as opposed to just hit the submit button again.

Should I ask a reach school for fee waiver

I’m one point above their 25th percentile LSAT (registered to take March too) and a little shy of their median GPA. Should I ask them for application fee waiver? Will that make me look bad and hurt my chance of getting accepted?

Thank you in advance!

Why not going in for an experience?

I see many people withdrawing before the test but I don’t quite get why..Why not going in for an experience? Since you already paid? Don’t schools count only the highest score, even for T14? Plus it’s a disclosed test you get to see how you perform and get a copy of the test? Seems to me only pros to go in and write the test..

Apparently there is a nationwide shortage of October test centers now. The conspiracy theory on redddit is that LSAC is trying to prevent folks from using their free retake coupons as much as possible since there are way more July test takers than they originally estimated.

What if you’re REALLY thirsty

During the actual LSAT, is it ok to quickly take a sip between sections? If not, what to do if the thirst has become distracting?

Drinking ample fluid before the test might be a problem too since that will make me want to go to bathroom prematurely, which is distracting, too...

I’m a coffee drinker so the dehydrating and diuretic effect of caffeine is a concern for me, even though I only drink one cup a day, in the morning. But I don’t have the capacity to wean off coffee now since the test is in two weeks and the withdrawal effect can be a huge headache (pun intended).

Any advice would be highly appreciated!

LOR guide for professors?

I’be been attending performing arts schools my whole life and I asked my principal teacher to write me a LOR. She agreed, but she has never written a LOR for law school applicants before. She wants me to write a letter myself with the content I need first, and then go to see her and finish the letter together. My problem is I’m not sure what to write either.

Based on my research, law schools would prefer letters from professors who teach classes with a emphasis on verbal reasoning/writing, but the conservatory (a T5) I attended put great emphasis on performance , and the few writing related classes I took were only one semester length classes. I doubt those professors remember me since I’ve been out of school for a few years, and I don’t think they know me well enough to write me a in-depth letter. what do you guys think? I’d appreciate any suggestions! Thank you in advance:)

Law magazines recommendations?

I subscribed The Economist paper magazines and thought it helped my reading skills. But they don’t have many LSAT-style law articles. Is there any law magazines that are recommended for LSAT extra-curriculum reading? Preferably something that has paper version since I prefer to read on paper and won’t be taking the digital LSAT (hopefully).
