I am in the middle of writing my personal statement, and I wont' go into every detail, but it almost seems like it's starting to be more about a close family member than about me. What I am writing about is a transitional period in my life, a difficult period in my life, and a period that made me want to go to law school. However, it all stems from someone else's experience that I had to deal with. Does anyone have any advice regarding personal statements and to what extent they need to solely be about you? Let me know if this needs clarification at all. Thank you!!!

So I finished the core curriculum and I have taken 3 PT's. On each test I scored a 157, which was what I was getting before completing the entire curriculum. I am feeling discouraged, but I know I can improve and I'm looking for some advice on how to do that before Dec. I am taking the test in Dec. and I would love to get a 165. LG's seems to be my weakest area but I need to improve everywhere. I am getting 18-20 in LR and 16-28 in RC. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on how to approach the next month of studying. I plan to take 3 PT's a week, but what else should I be doing? Thank you!
@ Sorry I am just now seeing this. Do you still have a little time to look it over? I can message it to you. Thanks for your help!
Your three-sentence biography- I recently graduated (May 2016) from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, and I currently work as an investigator for the Missouri State Public Defender system. I have a 3.6GPA and before doing the core curriculum I was getting about an average 159 on the LSAT. I am planning on taking the December LSAT and have been studying since early June - I plan to attend Fall 2017.
Your biggest worry about your application.
My LSAT score, at least as of now before finishing the CC, is not competitive enough for the schools I am looking at.
Two ideas for your personal statement.
-An experience that I had while working a domestic violence case as an investigator for the public defender's office and how that contributed to my interest in law.
-My father's struggles with mental illness/substance abuse and how that has affected me and made me want to become a lawyer.
Did you attend last time? Did I get to you?
No.
@.rizeq I know this is a lot to ask, but would you be willing to give my PS a quick read and let me know what you think? Thank you for the advice!!
I got a much lower score than I wanted. 157, and I was solidly PTing 163-165. I'm pretty bummed. I don't know exactly how it works. Can I wait to see where I get in and then decide to wait for the next cycle and take the June lsat?
Thank you everyone! You all gave me some good advice, and I will save the PT's and continue drilling
